  • There are some aspects on which we are going to compare Hubble and James Webb: distance, wavelength, size and orbit. First of all, we will talk about the distance, after all, how far the James Webb Telescope can see, the farthest Hubble has seen so far is about 10-15 billion light years away, and James Webb can see many times farther than this. Another aspect we have to understand a little more carefully, which will tell the distance of James Webb. The longer it takes for light to travel, the further away the object is, the farther back we are looking. This illustration compares different telescopes and how far they are able to see. Essentially, Hubble can see the equivalent of "toddler galaxies" and the Webb telescope will be able to see "baby galaxies." That is, the Webb telescope will help us see more old times. One of the reasons Webb was able to see the old galaxies is because it is an infrared telescope. We know that the universe is expanding. When we talk about the most distant objects, Einstein's General Relativity comes into play. This tells us that the expansion of the universe means that it is the space between objects that actually expands, causing the objects (galaxies) to move away from each other. In addition, any light in that space will also stretch, turning the wavelength of that light into a longer wavelength. Therefore, this thing makes distant objects invisible or makes them quite dim because that light reaches in the form of infrared infrared and James Webb's Infrared Telescope will help us to catch and examine these far-reaching infrared waves. Now let's talk about wavelength, the instruments in the James Webb telescope can study wavelengths from 0.6 micrometers to 28 micrometers. The infrared part in an electromagnetic spectrum ranges from about 0.75 µm to a few hundred µm. This means that Webb's instruments will operate primarily in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Speaking of the same Hubble, Hubble's instruments can see a small part of the infrared spectrum, from 0.8 to 2.5 µm, but its primary capabilities are in the ultra-violet and visible parts of the spectrum from 0.1 to 0.8 µm. Next is the size comparison, so the first comes in this is the size of the mirror, the size of the Hubble telescope's mirror is about 2.4 meters and this mirror is a single mirror, that is, no partition is present in it but the same is the mirror of the James Webb telescope. The diameter is 6.5 meters and this mirror is made up of 18 hexagon-shaped mirrors, which is helpful in reflecting the light better, on the other hand it is impossible to fit such a large mirror in any rocket, due to which it is It is designed in such a way that it can be folded and later it can be opened and brought back to its initial size when transported to space. The same because this mirror has to study infrared light, so there is a layer of gold on it, which has the ability to reflect light in the best way. Webb will have a much larger area than the NICMOS camera on Hubble, which is about 15 times more than Hubble. After this comes the sunshield installed in James Webb, which will protect the telescope from the scorching heat of the sun, this sunshield is made up of 5 layers and the size of this sunshield is 22 meters by 12 meters, which is about the size of a tennis court. Is equal to. There is no sunshield of any kind in the same Hubble telescope like James Webb. After this comes orbiting, simply in this we will clothe the orbit path of both these telescopes, the earth is 150 million km away from the sun and the moon orbits the earth at a distance of about 384,500 km. The Hubble Space Telescope orbits the Earth at an altitude of ~570 km. Webb would not actually orbit Earth - instead it would sit at the Earth-Sun L2 Lagrange point, 1.5 million km away! I told you about this Lagrange point in my first video made by James Webb, you can watch it if you want. Since Hubble is in Earth's orbit, it can be launched into space by spacecraft. Webb will be launched on an Ariane 5 rocket and because it will not be in Earth orbit, it is not designed to be serviced by the Space Shuttle. Webb's solar shield at point L2 blocks light from the Sun, Earth and the Moon Will do it This will help Webb to stay cool, which is very important for an infrared telescope.
