Gabby Thomas’ cover was 100 times worse than Angel Reese. Angel’s Vogue cover is the best that I’ve seen Vogue do with a black athlete. Vogue obviously incapable of and/or doesn’t care about shooting us properly. I wouldn’t buy Vogue issues because these women just don’t look great the way they are shot just look at how Serena’s cover came out. Essence does a better job and creates covers that are worth keeping.
Choima I know you said you may be slowing down with posting, so I am really enjoying having all this new content. Thank you for all of your effort thus far.
Yes those images were not flattering....but the other countries get it, i.e., france. Anok Yai was on the cover of Vogue france, and she looked exquisite.
Okay, so I'm confused as to what everybody else is seeing with this cover. I find nothing wrong with what yall think it looks like. It looks like something different and out of the box. Like, I find that everybody on social media just honestly like to complain about the smallest things that don't need to be complained about. I went to school for photography, and they taught us about lighting and the lighting fits the mood of the photoshoot. Maybe because I see art in this not what it makes her look like. Idk idk idk.
I completely agree. I also think black people are way more harsh on eachother when it comes to looks. Black beauty in high fashion is completely different than black beauty in the community. Hence girls like Lupita are seen as the bottom, but in the media her look is standard black beauty
Was the photographer for this shoot the same racist YT woman who shot Simone Biles Vogue cover . It looks like her work. You can’t convince it’s not personal.
So capturing how unambiguous bw look with no makeup, bright lighting & extra photoshop is racist? All she did was capture how a regular, everyday bw looks like and y’all had a fit. You wouldn’t say the same thing if Simone was photoshopped to be lighter and had a lace front on.
@@myturn2runit sweetie you don't know what unambiguous bw look like. maybe in your colorism channels you all gather to talk shit about real black girls

People need to understand that what the black community perceives as beautiful is not what the fashion industry perceives as beatiful. The ideas of what black beauty is are completely different. Her pictures are a reflection of what the fashion industry perceives as black beauty. Our standards are rooted in racism, while the media chooses purely on aethetics. It's a high fashion shoot, not a ghetto Barbie album cover.
I think it’s most def the vogue team. But also their teams as well. They both need to learn what lighting and poses and clothes work for them. I say this because Nicki Minaj’s vouges cover had similar aesthetics. BUT SHE KNOWS her lighting and what looks good. And she stands on business. These girls teams need to stand on business! And vouges team needs to stop acting slow. They know these pictures don’t look good.
It seems like the problem is just with black athletes. Beyonce, Michelle Obama etc. always look stunning. I went out of my way to buy those particular mags. Perhaps black photographers or lighting by Ava Duvernay is in order.
I feel like as Black Women we just can't win. Our community is either satisfied or not satisfied with anything we does. I think they both look amazing and out here still breaking the Glass Ceiling for us. Maybe if we supported more People of Color and their businesses, we wouldn't have to deal with all the poor treatments from non-Black people or Whyte people in general.
No way ever since i saw Keisha in Belly I HAVE LOVED LOVE LOVED blue light on black girls skin. Infact i urge everyone reading to pkease pause and go look at Keisha in the blue light in belly ad then come back and speak. I saw this with love. Maybe not for a photo shoot but in a video for a beautiful effect blue or purple looks on black skin in a way that is simply cannot look on every other complexion. It is so unique and one of those looks that black woman can pull off that others imo cannot. I hadddd to say this about the the lighting comment. I just wated to highlight that blue light on deep toned brown skin is one of themost gorgeous things i have ever seen hands down. I still think keisha from belly is one of themost beautiful women i have laid eyes on andi sawher as a kid in belly in that blue light❤. I stopped and wrote this comment early in the video so im still listening and you are awesome😊

@@GinaLash-js9oq I see what you’re saying, but I agree more with the purplish/blue violet tones. In a way I feel this is using some rhetoric from the myth that “black women can’t wear red lipstick”: It’s not the color itself, it’s the undertones. Maybe it’s the undertones of blue they’re choosing that are unflattering. Every color has a different shade that is for some and not so much for others.

@aladynamedSusan Are really that suprised or shocked, vouge is magazine that highlights European standard looking women and don’t value black/minority women and give other girls more and give women of color less. It’s well known that racism in the modeling industry is evident so I’m really not surprised.
I don't see anything wrong with the pictures. Also, I liked Simone Biles pictures. These girls are athletes not models. They don't know how to pose. Everything doesn't have to be girly. Athletes are tom boys.
Yes! A lot of the times I feel like people do not know how to catch black women in good lighting. Especially women of a more chocolate color. Like just think about it in easier terms - cartoons - relevancy I'm talk'n bout in Lion King: scar portrayed to be the villain, dark lighting behind the shoulders and in between the back and on one side of the face making the scar prevalent. As to where mufasa has lighting going down his back making him look angelic and lighting all over his face making him look God like. This is the same done with black women over another race. 3:54 js
11:34 I love the pose however the colour of the outfit is not it, its like its trying to have a competition with the background on who can look the most washed out and thats simply because 1) that colour isn't right for her complexion 2) theres too much muted colours going on and so her natural complexion looks out of place, if it was in fact a darker greyish-brown with the same undertone or more or on the whiter side with that amber undertone it would definitely look better against her skin whilst as it would pop more whilst still having that softness to it, like idk I think its both the lighting and the colour of the outfits thats not helping
@melad3000 she always covered girly content and she speaks on a variety of topics. She even did her makeup on her channel before. She mostly speaks big issues that are affecting the black community because it is well needed and to be honest especially with this political climate it is well needed. Yes she is a woman but she doesn’t have to cover girly topics like modeling and makeup all the time. It's fair to say that it's just Vogue US that has this issue because on this side of the pond the covers and shoots are exquisite and artistic. US Vogue makes itself look like any other magazine and lacks originality as if they got the most creatively challenged people to do their spreads. When other countries that have less black people than the US do better covers, you know change is needed.
I'm so confused about the creator comparing the photos to the Skims & Reebok ones, though...??? Those were horrific!!! But the Skims and Reebok ones look like some of the cheapest ad campaign pictures I've ever seen!!! 😮😮😮
Idk I’ve seen Rihanna’s America vogue covers and she looks great and looks like her usual self.. and Nicki so idk I don’t think it’s ALL black women maybe it’s the black women ATHLETES which aren’t seen as “sexx symbols” or beautiful and maybe that’s why
