During the summer and fall months, those coastal storms (tropical or hurricane level) coming from the South usually bring a lot of rain to PA. The western storms from the Great lakes have to cross the mountains to get to eastern counties usually fizzle before they get here... so less rain. This info came from Joe Calhoun wgal decades ago. I thought back door fronts were a spring thing..oh well Mother Nature and her curve balls.
