    Glad to listen to a person who grew up speaking Welsh (North West welsh) as a first language, talking about our own history.

    Native Welsh Lives Matter! Even though I am white, I have experienced racism and discrimination from the English all my life. Wales is England's last remaining colony. All other colonies have been granted their independence years ago. Unfortunately, we haven't. 1, 000 years since the invasion. That's a whole lot of years of oppression, murder and the attempted genocide of our language and culture. But we're still here, just. We urge all ex-colonials, to help us drive the English out. Sadly, the quaint old castles you see in Wales were English military bases from which troops would ride out and massacre the native Welsh. They were places where our ancestors were tortured, too.

    Sorry just noticed a couple of errors in your video, 625 is the death date of Cadfan ap Iago and 634 was the death date of Cadwallon ap Cadfan they were respectively great and 2nd great grandsons of Maelgwn Gwynedd, and that Maelgwn died in 547. Also 1055 was the birth year of Gruffydd ap Cynan not the beginning of his reign, he had multiple reigns his first starting in 1075 as he was overthrown or taken captive multiple times by allies and foes alike. Further I believe the image of the King used when talking about Llywelyn III at 5:48 was of a 14th century illustration of Macsen Wledig from the Book of Hours.

    • @NorceCodine
      @NorceCodine 2 роки тому

      So the region Gwynedd is named after Maelgwn, and who was Maelgwn?

    • @callumwynne5370
      @callumwynne5370 2 роки тому +2

      @@NorceCodine the region of Gwynedd was named for an Irish Tribe that had originally inhabited Anglesey during the Roman occupation of Britain called the Venedoti, it was applied by the Romans latterly to the entire North West Region as Venedotia which later through linguistic mutation became Gwynedd. Maelgwn was a King whose father, grandfather and great grandfather over their lifetimes reconquered North Wales for the Britons from Irish Warlords who had conquered it from the Hiberno-Romano-Britons (Irish-Roman-Britons) living there. Maelgwn himself was the first Great king of Gwynedd as he was the first to establish hegemony over other Welsh Kings and set a precedent held by his descendants and later Kings of Gwynedd as de Facto Overlords of Wales.
