The ice is getting so cluttered with gimmicks. X-Factor tags, a pressure clock, and now one-timer highlighting. Ugh. Looking more like an arcade game every year.
I hope there is an option to turn off all that flashy nonsense to make the game more realistic.

The puck gets through alot. More then half this trailer the pass/play should've been broken up. The computers look terrible on defense just standing there clueless

I’m cautiously optimistic. Skating seems really good, we’ll see how the AI actually performs in the game, reactive actions seem pretty good, skill based one timers are good in concept but look over powered (it showed Doughty shooting at 112 mph)

Those guys making smart defensive plays were user not AI controlled. The AI still looked lost on defense.
Computer AI and teammate defensemen are so messed up, no coverage of opposing players, fighting on the wall behind the net, just floating around and over-pursuing the puck. Did these guys ever play actual hockey?
When Dahlin moved into the slot and scored, the two defenders just let him in. 0:40

Looking forward to presentation deep dive and hopefully seeing the return of full presentation and longer pre game intros! Also see more goalie reactions when a goal is scored and just the authenticity and atmosphere being better give me a sign to give me hope lol
When will they make realistic nets? The bare minimum…
as someone who enjoys be a pro and goalie be a pro im definitely hopeful for smarter ai teammates, having a team that will actually play normally while im in the net will be so nice. right now its pretty rough, even with the best players in the league they just skate right at the net and turn it over or dump and chase for a turnover lol
Theres nouthin wrong with the scoreboard I understand what your saying but let's be satisfied with the effort EA is making to make us satisfied and bring real life animations.
Still looks horrible. It'll take several more years before they figure out how to animate humans on ice. This sport is not easy to replicate into a video game. The speed, the player movements, the puck handling, the oversized shading of the puck. Everything is off.
Sticking with NHL 94 then?

Agreed, I feel like it would be a fairly simple task to add the team logo to the scoreboard to differentiate teams quickly. And this would be a great aesthetic addition. Great breakdown of the deep dive.

Very solid. I hope they fix the AI clustering. Lose my mind trying to enter the zone pushing the puck, 1-2 of my AI team mates, plus the defense. I take some blame in not passing off…..but damn it, you don’t do that in the real.

unrelated question, but do you know why some new cellys they added in 23-24 are exclusive to EASHL? sucks that you can’t use them for created characters!
I'm not too sure! I'd guess cause you have to earn/buy them in EASHL oppose to just getting them free ofline
One of the biggest problems IMO with EA games lately is i think sometimes EA just doesnt care anymore...now in the 90's EA Sports was the #1 powerhouse of games made great titles...but now all trash...and my biggest gripe with nhl ones is last years u could never win a face off...plus other garbage things wrong....and dont get me started on the Madden games are pure trash every year...EA ahould give up sports games give them to Sony cause MLB the show is pure gold.....so at least sony knows how to make sports games....
What they can do when both teams have the same color on the scoreboard is whoever is the away team the scoreboard should be white for that team because away jerseys are always white

Did they fix the goalies letting in 3-6 goals every game on less than 15 shots against for your team ??? Hate having to outscore every game 10-5 - 8-4 to win on a higher skill level while your goalie lets in muffins
The presentation for this game still sucks. EA still can't make a hockey game feel like hockey after even 25 years of making hockey games. I actually went out of my way to email the NHL requesting they consider competition within their own brand and look into other game developers to move this franchise forward as a gaming brand. Whether they actually listen, who knows, but it needs to happen. This is what lack of competition gives you.
Go back and play NHL 2K7, what a completely different game from Visual Concepts (a.k.a. 2K Sports) when they were founded and run by SEGA in answer to EA bailing on the Dreamcast. It feels more like hockey. Even though the game modes sucked in NHL 15, you felt like you were watching a hockey game.
Those who are talking up NHL games like this have no clue, no idea, what they're giving up sounding satisfied with every years offerings. They don't understand they could be getting a lot more or they, too, would be banging down the NHLs door demanding the opportunity for other devs to make a better NHL experience.
I'd be willing to sell my entire game collection and give the money away to against anything to bet NHL 25 looks and feels pretty much like NHL 24. When you compare it to older games like NHL 2K7 or NHL 15, even, it's sorely lacking.
When I watched the Pre-Show to the final SCF game of the Panthers and the Oilers, you could see the fans pouring into the arena getting ready for a big game. Rocking the heavy metal devil horns at the camera as those doing the Pre-Show we're trying to keep their composure. Someone from the WWE had shown up to talk with them as a random guest, and inside the igloo you could hear the fans echoing out the door into the main halls of the arena in Florida, each side of the fans shouting louder than the other cheering on their teams. It jacked you up for the game. In NHL 2K7, you see the players exiting the locker room, tapping the corkboard filled with fans letters or tapping a bust of someone, on their way to the ice. You see the goalie getting himself all jacked up as the team is announced watch the Pre-Game skate.
Other games would cut to the presenting commentators talking a bit of the Pre-Game. NHL 15 actually showed an overhead view of the arena and maybe a few shots of the city as the commentators introduced the game. And then of course, in hockey tradition, no matter what league it is, the National Anthems before the game. That's part of the hockey game and part of the experience that's been around since the Sega Genesis days in the 90s. But, leave it EA to take it out and say screw it, they don't care what sacrifices have been made their own freedom, perhaps especially as Canadians, Americans don't see it that way.
There's no Pre-Game or post game players of the game either. EA has stripped all of it away. You see maybe 3 seconds of a Pre-Game skate and on the first faceoff. Who cares if a lot of people skip it, what does it matter if you're recycling the same game every year anyway, the work wouldve already been done.
I'll say it again, the Presentation sucks. Y'all keep talking about how the animations are more realistic. Well, look at MLB: The Show and what even baseball fans get or racing fans with Gran Tourismo. The EA Sports franchise is still ARCADE style hockey. Sony devs for sports are more into realism and greater authenticity with sports sims. You're not gonna get player accuracy or to feel like you're viewing an real hockey game because it's like you're watching a game where all the players are on meth, that's how EA makes their games "because realism is too boring" said anyone about the sport of hockey? I haven't. Everyone's surprised at how brutal and action paced it is and it's not a game that takes hours unlike other sports. An NHL game and look and feel authentic and keep the player engaged because hockey is just naturally that way. Any other developer, especially a Sony developer would give you that look and feel because that's what The Show is all about, the feel of baseball from it starting to be televised until it's done, EA can't make a game that looks and feels like hockey. They make an arcade game

It seems like they visually downgraded the game each year since NHL 23. Uniform colors are washed out and wrong for a few teams. This is why the game needs to be released for PC, at least mods can fix the game visually.
Where is the defense in half these clips. Goalies look worse than ever
Game is so far behind on presentation it’s just sad. When you compare it to something like nba 2k25 it’s just embarrassing.
Fixing skating every year shouldnt count as a new feature it should be whats expected...ill be skipping this one again

The bought last years 24 might have played it 10 times… Absolute garbage!!! I played 23 most part of the winter. I will never buy another hockey game again until they go back to 23 controller settings.
