    Im doing a 99 Explorer 5.0 awd frame swap to my 47 F-1.
    What did you do in order to use an old school steering column? Ive seen others use the clunky factory column and dont like the way it looks.
    Also. Have you figured out how to remove factory gauges and use aftermarket?

    Hey so did you end up cutting the top off of the explore firewall where the ecu has its factory spot or was it able to slip it in under the f1 dash as it was in the video ?

  • @jma8352
    @jma8352 Рік тому

    looks impossible to use the original bed though, right? i was thinking about grafting the 87 ranger on to the 98 explorer but id have to do a high flatbed i guess or cut the floor out and move it up.

  • @bradleyburns489
    @bradleyburns489 2 роки тому

    And also along with my other question about the firewall ECU placement how are you able to tuck away the original steering column Anti-Theft and ignition to be able to run an aftermarket steering column?

    Very Nice.. Thank you for posting this. I would like to do a 49 F1 and keep the explorer fire wall. Do you think it would fit?

    • @sssrp80
      @sssrp80  4 роки тому +1

      Yes that is how I did it. I actually cut the F1 along a factory body line, then on the explorer I had saved all the way to the windshield. The new vehicles have a big area designed for the wiper arms and a fresh air inlet for the AC system. So I eventually ended up cutting that off the explorer side of things. I have thumb nails posted in the video of that part. If you send my an email I can send more detailed pics of how. It pieced together.

    Great looking truck, I'm planning a similar swap. Any pictures or video of how you did the flatbed? Love to see some more videos of future projects. Thanks

    • @sssrp80
      @sssrp80  3 роки тому

      I'll try to make one and post it. I basically took a 4x4 pressure treated post and ran that to the body mounts across the frame. Then I just attached my bed boards to it. I had to make some room the tires where rubbing and didn't want to ruin new tires. Thanks for watching.

    Awesome build, your wife is a lucky woman!
    I'm starting to do the exact same project, using a 1951 F1 and a 2000 Explorer EB 5.0 AWD. Looks like you have solved or dealt with a lot of the issues I'm concerned with - like where would the steering wheel be in the F1 cab if I was to use the stock explorer steering wheel & leave it in the stock location going through the firewall. And also the issues with using the stock AC housing and how/where to locate/modify the blower motor area to get it to work. I also really want/need to keep as much of the Explorer dash as possible (since the dash on the F1 I have has already been chopped out by the previous owner), but I know the Explorer dash is about 8" wider than the F1... so I know I'm going to have to do a lot of fab work to make it work. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I'd also love to see more photos or videos of what you've done and how you did it. Cheers!

      David, send me your email and I'll send you some detailed pictures of what I did to make the factory air work. I think I mentioned in the video, after all was said and done. I think if I did another one, I would look more into vintage air under dash unit and have it adapted to the ford ac compressor. But like you said I've kind of solved the mystery of making the factory one work. I originally was going to run full explorer dash also. I found an area between the far left ac vent and the gauge cluster to cut/ make some room, then also over on the other side between the air bag and the radio area had some gauges and things that might be able to but out and shrink down the dash. I think you need to remove 6-7" total to get it to fit in the f1. Don't quote me on that, lol. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and would love to see your build as it gets out together.

      @@sssrp80 That would be awesome! my email is: meech.dave@gmail.com. I just got done cutting most of the Explorer body off, just need to trim the firewall down to the width of the F1. Call me crazy, but I'm also thinking of doing an extended cab mod as well... more on that as I go! Have a good one.

      @@sssrp80 Any change you can send me more detailed pictures and/or videos of what you've done here? I'm hitting a few hurdles in my build and could use a little help/guidance. Currently I'm having issues with the final location of the F1 cab on the Explorer chassis and mounting the inner fenders & core support. Thank you!

    • @sssrp80
      @sssrp80  3 роки тому +1

      I actually just bought a cheap one from the auto part store. I took the explorer key and inserted the key and have that turned key on. I then just taped it all up together and ziptied it up under my dash. Then I pinned out the push start thing ford uses and wired that to the ignition. If I can find videos of what I did I'll post. Thanks for watching

    I would use the entire interior out of a 1995 - 2001 Ford Explorer and put it in a classic Ford pickup.
    I would put a Ford Explorer steering wheel in it as well.

    • @sssrp80
      @sssrp80  4 роки тому +1

      I was planning on it and actually had it planned out, but my wife liked the classic truck look. The firewalls are close to the same size, but the explorer dash is almost 8" wider. So I had two or three sections marked where I was going to lose some inches to make it fit. You could even take the compost ac ducting and trim it down also and. Retain 100% explorer interior. Another thing you'll run into is steering wheel placement. The steering wheel was against the door if left in factory explorer location. I am glad you enjoyed the video. I think your plan would be sweet.
