- I did a day in the life, of what I do as a photography student at college! College as in sixth form college, not like college in the us, I'm 17! I do level 3 photography and im in the second year - I had lots of work to get done so I thought I would share what I had to do!

No problem! And it was weird to begin with because it was so different to school, but everyone was in the same boat and knew nobody so I quickly made friends, and as with the work I feel I adjusted quite easily as it was something I was interested in and excited to learn! But my tutors were all great which helped lots! x

For photos I use photoshop and Lightroom and I used to do a level 3 extended diploma at college

i’m starting my second year of college but i’m changing to a photography diploma/btec. i’m so excited but how do you write so much about your pictures and other things in your sketchbook. sometimes i can’t think of anything more to say. so what stuff do you write about every time? :))

I’m here because I sadly got my backup option of photography for my third option (the 2 others I started in year 9 were also backups ☹️) and I’m not really a fan of it at all so I’m trying to see the good of it

do you think doing two course work subjects is manageable, how many extra hours a week do you think i would have (avg)
So for me, I couldn't do 2 courses at my college (at least not level 3) because they are full time and equivalent to 3 a-levels. If you are doing say level 2, it may be possible to do 2 courses however for me, in year one I was in college Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Thursdays were spent doing coursework, this year I had 2 days off but still not enough time for a second course (I hope that makes sense!) but check with whatever college you are looking at as this is something I asked the tutors before choosing the course!
Which university would you recommend for a photography degree? I really enjoyed photography and hope that I could take it as a job😅

Not sure if your going to read this but I might as well try. I was meant to do my GCSES exams but obviously they were cancelled and I’m about to start A-level photography is there anything that I could to get started on some of the course or do I just wait until lessons start in September. I would say research into iso, aperture and shutter speed (just the basics) and if you have a camera get to know it and just play around!

I never did gcse so I’m not really sure what is covered but honestly I wouldn’t stress as everything will be gone over you! You won’t be expected to know much yet! Maybe read up on aperture, shutter speed and iso as that’ll be helpful!

It depends, if photography is something you want to do with your life then yes! If you’re doing it just because you think it is easy then no, there’s lots of work xx

heyyy girlie what brand of pens etc white pen and font pens are u using against black paper I always struggle to find good ones and yours seem to apply so nicely :)

hi!! do you have any tips for annotating photos?
hey, pick out some of the obvious things in the photo and label them, but then think about what they actually add to the image, what emotion/meaning/depth (sometimes you might think there's none but your teacher will definitely think there is haha!) - and then go into colouring, lighting, focus, have a guess at why they used these things (make sure to use full sentences where possible) and basically just do a load of. waffle haha! I hope this helped a bit lol :) x

Is it a bad idea for someone whos never done photography before at gcse and is 2 months behind a level photography to start now?
It’s never too late, you just may need to work a bit harder!

in photography are u able to have freedom in what u photograph?
Mostly yes! There are some things a little more narrowed down, for example we had to do a fashion section but you still have freedom in this, for example someone on my course likes skateboarding so incorporated that into the fashion project - for each of the final projects however you have complete creative freedom and can literally do whatever!

I'm working as a chef here.. i want to know whether i go for professional photography course there or work with professional photographer and learn with him/her or learn by myself?

Sorry, I can’t really help - I only did the course at a college (sixth form) so wasn’t anywhere near a professional level.

A camera! Possibly your own laptop with editing software but schools do usually provide that if you don’t want to get your own!

Do I need my own camera for the course or do I get given one by the college?
it's probably best to have your own camera but in my school you can rent/borrow ones from the school or they can give you a special lense to make your phone camera a little better.
I would suggest asking your school to see what your options are
Yeah, at my college it was best if you had your own as there was only 1 good camera - if you can’t afford it sometimes the school can get you a bursary!

For me I needed 5 passes!
You should check the colleges grade boundaries for the photography course I hope this helps if you are in the uk to do a level 3 course it is a minimum of 5 passes at a grade 4 usually to be able to do the course x
So do you do most of your work from home?
Not always! But you can’t get it all done on the days you’re in college it’s more work than that

is studying photography at college expensive?
It depends what you mean by college - in the uk I went to sixth form college basically, so it is free to go to school in the uk until you’re 18, the only things I had to pay for was my camera, sketchbooks, printing, etc - but that is expected - if you were to do it at college in the us it would be much more expensive unless you got a scholarship (I don’t know about other countries I’m afraid!)

I mean each place it depends, but I had to have my camera (which I already had) I did have to buy a film camera but that wasn’t too expensive second hand, it mostly it was for printing and stuff that you had to pay for
