@@FilmStack Maybe, but so far he hasn't had his big personal movie in my opinion. Elvis is a biopic so it barely counts, and he was a great villain in Dune 2. But he hasn't had his Wonka/Challengers/Anyone but You. I think he can evolve into a Willem Dafoe-like figure, and i'd be happy with that.
Denis Villeneuve said he believed timmy was perfect for the role when he was already writing the script but he also said he believed certain faces would pull in a demographic that wasn't familiar with dune towards the franchise. I know younger people who didn't know anything about dune but simply watched it because timothee was acting in it. the same demographic also went in because of zendaya. After his performance in call me by your name, people went through his catalogue and watched the movie miss stevens and the reviews on imdb just talking about his performance alone in that small indie movie is insane. same with hot summer nights, which flopped and yet reviews said 'it was worth watching because of his performance'. hell his character in 'don't look up' a movie leo and j.law were in, where he improvised practically all his lines is one of the best characters in that film, which apparently also flopped somewhat. so sure, that's not carrying an IP but giving memorable performances in movies small or big that have people singing his praises even when he's not the main character is quite a pull for someone at the stage he's at in his career. Also, IP's flop very easily these days even when they have a good director. considering how much people say they want to see original content these days. People getting mad when they call him a 'star' makes no sense to me. nobody Is saying he's better than seasoned actors. people like leo have over 30 movies under their belt but at 28 leo had majorly Indie movies under his belt aside from 'titanic' and 'catch me if you can'. there were people back then who doubted he could act and said he was only popular because he was pretty . and johnny depp was well into his 30's when he started being recognised for roles AT ALL. aside from 'edward scissorhands' 'baby boy' and 'whats eating gilbert grape'. he was nearing 40 yrs when he got the role of jack sparrow, was well into his 40's when he did 'charlie and the chocolate factory' and he was even late 40's in 'alice in wonderland'. Chalamet is literally 28 right now. he still has a ways to go but has quite an impressive movie catalogue, gives memorable performances even in movies he isn't leading, and has accolades to his name that is quite an achievement for someone his age. he has clearly earned his 'stardom' based on talent and considering what he's done at this age, it's not far fetched to call him a 'star' even if evidently he has a ways to go. Obviously he's not the only one, saiorse ronan, Florence pugh, anya taylor joy, paul mescal etc are just as impressive if not more. I think a lot of good movies with the box office flops this year have nothing to do with the actors but the literal economy rn as well as the rise of streaming services. the world is changing after all.
@@dameanvil Um... Denis Villeneuve's Dune is adapted directly from Frank Herbert's book, and is not copying any of the other unsuccessful attempts at filming Dune.
Well done for highlighting Miss Stevens, which this video sadly glossed over. In it, while playing a wannabe actor, he delivers a monologue from Death of a Salesman which may be the most powerful thing he has ever done.
@@dameanvil Um... I have indeed read Dune. I'm sorry, but your English is extremely poor, so I may have misunderstood your posts. It's pretty clear you are talking complete nonsense anyway. Nearly all readers of Dune agree that Denis Villeneuve made an excellent adaptation, probably the best cinematic adaptation that was possible. (Obviously films and books are different artforms, so there are slight changes, but the spirit of the story has been conveyed perfectly.) Please don't reply to me with any more nonsensical posts.
Put Timmy in a taxi driver remake. Even if it went scene for scene unchanged, it would be magnificent. This man will one day play a romantic/life/full-bodied film role that will make everything which came before, and will one day follow, seem negligible.
He was awesome in The King! Really changed my mind about him. Also why is being a nepo-baby such a bad thing? Lots of people get regular jobs based on who their parents know
True, but he isn't even a nepo-baby. His mother is a Broadway dancer turned realtor, and his father is a journalist turned UN worker. His uncle directed tiny things nobody has heard of, and certainly wasn't responsible for his success. It was years of small indie movies that led to his success.
@@AbcDef-ww2gy right that makes sense! I'll concede to nepotism baby point to you. Although, since his mother was in Broadway, she could have known people in the jndustry rhat know people in the industry to help him on his path to being a great actor
@@SmithSens16 True, she could have, but I doubt it, because she was a chorus girl not a star. He was just another jobbing actor, doing auditions and getting countless rejections. If any one person can be given the credit for starting his career, I'd say it's director Christopher Nolan, who liked his audition and cast him as Matthew McConaughey's son in Interstellar, back in 2013/2014. That's where it all began.
You can forget him as the next big movie star. He is the newest inhabitant of Kardashian World and all the serious movie makers and actors hate the Kardashians. They are cheap and poisonous. Word is his fiancé, Kylie Jenner wants to be an actor and she plans on TC opening doors for her.
He had so many connections to the industry and went to a very preppy acting academy ever since he started all his roles are given to him like candy which doesn’t happen for most other actors. It’s like they want him to have a most versatile filmography as possible at a young age by putting him in wonka to appeal to kids so they know who he is then a Bob Dylan biopic to get the boomers familiar with him and in dune as an action heroine for the teens. whoever his army of people that are behind his career know what they’re doing to get him to be seen as this Hollywood golden boy because most other working actors will never get the opportunity to get the roles he has
Could you do a video on Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Mel Gibson or Steven Seagal? Not that I want to pressure you or anything, but I would find it interesting.
What If The BayVerse ended with Dark Of The Moon instead and the TF film series rebooted with Travis Knight's BumbleBee in 2012 and sequels like Age Of Extinction and Transformers: Last Knight didn't exist
this is the age of youtubers being handed A-list status given to them by a faulty algorithm. And I'm not alone in believing it has lowered the quality of both the film and music industry.
Don't get it twisted, I agree that the kid, Timothée is in fact a great acting talent. His peers are not as talented as he is, he's next level. So, he would be the last of is kind if the movie industry in this era hadn't killed off the movie star. Until the movie industry flips back to original movies carried by a *_movie star_* here will be no more movie stars.
@@stdamonsbeard Actually Dead Reckoning released the same time as Barbenheimer so for most folks who only go to the cinema 3 to 4 times per year, it was over before it had even begun.
@@thetalentof That isn't a great excuse especially since you say Tom Cruise is the last movie star. Also Dead Reckoning opened the week before those two movies. And even then the opening was weak which is important.
@@thetalentof What is harder to open IP or non IP movies? Also the MI series has been Tom’s most consistent box office franchise. And even the previous installment one did well. And Top Gun his previous film was a massive hit. And yet couldn’t open Dead Reckoning. Point being every film is a crap shoot. Especially now a days.
Lets be honest, there aren't much young actors, that are as unique as for example Jim Carrey, Jack Nicholson, Nicolas Cage, Maggie Smith or my absolute favorite Geoffrey Rush. So much of the old movie stars have something to them, that let them stand out the masses and that makes you wanna see them, not especially the movie itself.
Calling him a movie star is a stretch. I personally don't consider any of the young crop of actors "movie stars". They're working actors. A movie star to me is not only someone that can fill theaters but also someone with cultural impact and influence on a global scale spanning across different demographics such as age, sex, nationality, ethnicity, etc. The post-2010 actors simply don't have that same pull due to the rise of social media and streaming.
I am appreciative of the effort the creators put into summarising TC movies, however I fundamentally disagree that he is not the actor for whom people would come to see the film. I might not be a representative of the general population, but I literally watch movies with TC only because of him. I personally find Dune sequels dull and uninteresting. His best movies, as he said himself, were Ms Stevens - a prelude, CBYN - part 1, and Beautiful Boy - part 2. Hoping 'the complete unknown' will become part 3. I am not even talking about his intelligence, humbleness and sense of style, which set him far apart from the other young actors mentioned here. He is one of a kind, and if the mob is generally excited by blockbusters and other commercial IP crap these days, this has nothing to do with TC talents, just a way of keeping up with career. Nothing to compare with Di Caprio either. Completely different style of work and set of talents. He can shine in Broadway shaws or in Chanel commercials. He is bloody good.
Tim Isn't *that guy* - Hollywood has cherry picked him and proceed to attach him to iconic IP's. He Isn't capable of single-handedly carrying an obscure movie like a prime Will Smith, Tom Cruise, The Rock or Leonardo, It's not even close. He's not even an A lister yet
People think because an actor is in successful movies he is one a movie star. And two the success is because of them. It has more to do with the property and execution than the actor.
Am I the only one or you guys also think that timothee is the type of personality that is only limited to trend on the internet. But when it comes to shine as a global movie star and run the movie by his own name then it's gonna be really hard for him. Not just hard but impossible ig. Because he is just not that type.
Agreed, until he can show that he's capable of taking an original studio film like Jerry Maguire / Vanilla Sky, Hitch / i Robot, The Game Plan / San Andreas or Shutter Island / The Revenant (as the stars you've mentioned above) to box office success, then he's not even in the conversation with those guys.
I feel like he can’t really carry a franchise on his own to box office success. The only real movie star that can carry a box office under 40 would be Ryan Gosling
Actually chris hemsworth Tom Huddleston cillian Murphy Jake gyllenhall fassbender and maybe even Tom hardy are all top names and are more of household names than this guy an I’m sure most if not all of them are under 40!
The last movie stars are Tom Cruise & Jackie Chan. Had to say it. These men are still alive and active and are referred to as a legends while they still breath. They do their own stunts.
Under 30? He's under 30? It's not that he looks over 30. If something he looks like a teen, but I thought he was one of those cases of "too young looking for someone in his 30s". Altho, let's be real: he probably will be one of those cases eventually.
I feel like we need to stop talking about who is considered a movie star if we’re not gonna cover the actual industry politics of that label. Timothee definitely isn’t a movie star, such a thing just doesn’t exist unless the definition is updated.
Besides, except for Wonka and Dune 1&2, his lastest films have been underachievers/flops at the box office: French Dispatch, Don’t Look Up, Rainy Day in New York, Bones and All, Beautiful Boy. Little Women, Intergalactic and Lady Bird were not starring roles for TC and his Chanel Ad stunk. I don’t think this Bob Dylan biopic is going to do well either.
He is a Good Actor But so are MANY Other Actors...He Certainly is NOT a Household Name and Highly Doubt He Ever Will be...SUPERSTAR??...Stop it...You Must be a Big Fan of His i Guess
The haters would say the author is a hack spewing idiocies for the sake of clicks. But that is not true. Now, with Chalamet dead at 95, we can certainly make such statements.
List of his movies: Hits. (Financial Successes) Dune 1&2 (ensemble cast) Wonka (starring) Interstellar (small role) Little Women (ensemble cast) Lady Bird (small role) Call me by your name (starring) Flops (financial failures) Bones and all. @9:38 negative. audiences want good original stories and all we're getting is watered down or subversive shit platters of once beloved IP now run into the ground.
He’s ruined every great movie he’s ever played a major role in and is no way anywhere near DiCaprio who played a perfect young king Louis the 14th and fur trapper being mauled half to death by a bear. He’s no where near DiCaprio. Sorry.
the last movie star? seriously? I never heard of him before dune and still might not recognize him on the street. how long have you been working for him?
People keep trying to push this idea that movie stars are disappearing somehow. Here is a list of modern movie stars who are not known for their characters or stuck in a disney box: We have Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Mia Goth, Barry Keoghan, LaKeith Stanfield, Bill Skarsgard, Aaron Taylor Johnson just to name some
literally none of those people quantify as 'movie stars'. movie stars are people with international appeal to all demographics who can make non-ip projects (blockbusters, independent and studio backed films alike) a success with critics, audiences and most of all, in box office numbers. i love all those people you mentioned, but none of them qualify as movie stars. no one really does anymore except maybe cruise and, despite the fact that i don't particularly like him, the rock.
@@ikateeo so ryan gosling isn’t a movie star, right margot robbie isn’t either neither is bill skarsgard All such versatile actors who we’ve seen strut their stuff time and time again. To me these people are movie stars.
False. He was middle class. His mother is a Broadway dancer turned realtor, and his father is a journalist turned UN worker. He had no useful connections in Hollywood. It was a decade of bit parts and indie films which led to his success.
Haha it wasn’t meant to be so bleak! It’s more of a discussion and we end off on a positive note. But yeah i agree there will be new movie stars, but they aren’t like the ones we’ve been used to. Atm at least, their names don’t have a major impact on a film’s success
Huh? It is a massive global blockbuster and also acclaimed by critics, being Certified Fresh on RT. The most important audience was children and their parents, and both those groups raved about it.
His performance in call me by your name is nothing short of stellar. The way he completely captured what it’s like to be in love from his mannerisms and his little gestures really add to his acting capabilities
Yeah that performance along with Beautiful Boy show he can act very well! Most people only watched him in Dune which he was good in, but there are so many other great things going for the films that you don’t really focus on the performances
@@FilmStack I agree I’d say for films like dune performances are never the forefront of the film unlike the more grounded tamer films like CMBYM, beautiful boy and bones and all

@@janpol466 Neither does he! Understand that it is YOUR OWN problem that you haven't kept up with good movies recently. (He's been in 5 or 6 Best Picture nominees. Why haven't you seen them? He's not the last movie star just the proof that the concept of a movie star isn't as dead as people have been claiming.
Glenn Powell also can be the next movie star
Nah i see him follwing the path of chris Evans with the dcu
Seriously a really good video. Really all of your videos bring up interesting movies I want to see in the future. Thank you :)
I think Zendaya and Sydney can count considering the succeses of Anyone But You and Challengers
Yeah could even throw Austin Butler into this group of actors (even though he’s 32, but has been really active lately)
@UsiQuotidiani.18He was incredible in Dune: Part Two imo.
Don't forget that new actors have to prove themselves to casting directors with the amount of followers they have.
Yep 👌🏼🔛
It is essential that people who don't know Dune to watch the film. It is a gross distortion which manages to say less that the film it is copying.
@@AbcDef-ww2gy Yea, thank you for telling me you have not read Dune.
Christopher Nolan is still a movie star, and Villeneuve seems to be filling the same shoes as CN
Put Timmy in a taxi driver remake. Even if it went scene for scene unchanged, it would be magnificent.
This man will one day play a romantic/life/full-bodied film role that will make everything which came before, and will one day follow, seem negligible.
He was 20 yo in CMBYN NOT 21 yo
Exactly on point about = social media eradicating mystique, not just actors but other celebrities/famous people in all walks of life.
The hate is what baffles me... name another I'll wait
Pattinson
Dune 2 was soo good
what happens when 2001: a space odyssey was never released ?
He had so many connections to the industry and went to a very preppy acting academy ever since he started all his roles are given to him like candy which doesn’t happen for most other actors. It’s like they want him to have a most versatile filmography as possible at a young age by putting him in wonka to appeal to kids so they know who he is then a Bob Dylan biopic to get the boomers familiar with him and in dune as an action heroine for the teens. whoever his army of people that are behind his career know what they’re doing to get him to be seen as this Hollywood golden boy because most other working actors will never get the opportunity to get the roles he has
He is Not Even That Good of an Actor...But Hey That is Just My Opinion
@@J7nty Yea i Was Agreeing With Your Statement
Could you do a video on Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Mel Gibson or Steven Seagal? Not that I want to pressure you or anything, but I would find it interesting.
He was 20 when he filmed Call Me By Your Name, not 21. (Ok, I'll admit I have a problem! lol!)
He was 20 when he did CMBYN.
Check out Barry Keoghan, he is the actor for all generations
What If The BayVerse ended with Dark Of The Moon instead and the TF film series rebooted with Travis Knight's BumbleBee in 2012 and sequels like Age Of Extinction and Transformers: Last Knight didn't exist
We need to make a what if video soon haha lots of good comments for potential topics

this is the age of youtubers being handed A-list status given to them by a faulty algorithm.
Next Level??...Lmao...Come on Barry Stop it
Did my guy just say Northman was a flop for Anya Taylor joy? It was a banger of a movie xD
Box office flop ☹️
Only Cruise is still capable of opening a non-IP movie to a massive opening weekend at the box office.
Not anymore. He couldn’t even make Dead Reckoning successful.
@@stdamonsbeard My point was never about IP movies in the first place though.
Yup that’s a big part of what we’re discussing in the video. Good comment though, not sure who’d be the youngest actor to fulfill that criteria
If you are asked for suggestions. Then what would say .... That what are the ways to actually become a crowd pulling movie stars in era like this.
@@FilmStack Go Walk Around The Streets and Ask Random People About Him....Guarantee 90% of People Never Even Heard of Him
I am appreciative of the effort the creators put into summarising TC movies, however I fundamentally disagree that he is not the actor for whom people would come to see the film.
"rap career" is so unserious😂
he doesn't look like jesus christ, i know i'm him
To be honest in the last they’re part he kinda sounds like Morty from Rick and morty
Yup. They tried making Jonathan Majors a movie star and now with the Glenn Campbell guy.
Leonardo is about the only good example you gave. Try Cagney, Brando or Nicholson.
...The Rock? Seriously?
I feel like he can’t really carry a franchise on his own to box office success. The only real movie star that can carry a box office under 40 would be Ryan Gosling
Actually chris hemsworth Tom Huddleston cillian Murphy Jake gyllenhall fassbender and maybe even Tom hardy are all top names and are more of household names than this guy an I’m sure most if not all of them are under 40!
Nah
Bruh ... He just got bombed with fall guy. All this days of trending on internet, the literally me . All this got useless.
The last movie stars are Tom Cruise & Jackie Chan. Had to say it. These men are still alive and active and are referred to as a legends while they still breath. They do their own stunts.
I think he's a great actor, but I lost all respect for him when he became involved with a Kardasian.

Under 30? He's under 30? It's not that he looks over 30. If something he looks like a teen, but I thought he was one of those cases of "too young looking for someone in his 30s". Altho, let's be real: he probably will be one of those cases eventually.
We Need older actors
Yeah.

We have Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Mia Goth, Barry Keoghan, LaKeith Stanfield, Bill Skarsgard, Aaron Taylor Johnson
just to name some
Also Wonka sucked
literally none of those people quantify as 'movie stars'. movie stars are people with international appeal to all demographics who can make non-ip projects (blockbusters, independent and studio backed films alike) a success with critics, audiences and most of all, in box office numbers. i love all those people you mentioned, but none of them qualify as movie stars. no one really does anymore except maybe cruise and, despite the fact that i don't particularly like him, the rock.
