My mother played this song while pregnant and after i was born, while I was laying under her piano. It was also the first song I ever learned. Thanks for the upload Josh!
I think by "learned" he meant he memorized its melody, not like playing it on the piano. I agree that only a bad teacher would give his student this waltz as a first piece...
Here's another sample from a Late Beginner/Early Intermediate ProPractice tutorial based on one of my favorite pieces by Chopin. If a student loves Chopin but is still in the stages of late beginner/early intermediate repertoire, I will generally start them with this piece, as most of the pieces Chopin wrote were of a much more advanced nature. However, this little gem is a perfect starting point for students to not only learn about the style of a waltz, but also be introduced to voicing, nuance, and rubato. I hope you all have a great week of practicing!
May I know, what grade would be recommend to learn this pieces? If we put it in ABRSM, what grade probably. I interested to learn play this, but I wonder if this much more far from my grade now. I just pass my grade 5 in ABRSM last 2 weeks. If I could play this well.
Hi Josh I have subscribed this video and studied pedal, that's great explanation for people like me. I have limited formal education and your videos help a lot. I find it inspiring and very supportive! I liked pedal exactly the way you show here. Thanks a lot!
Hey! It's been 3 months haha... so did you end up doing it? I'm planning on starting it after I finish learning a simplified version of Chopin Nocturne Op.9 No.2; planning on learning the full version of that song too eventually. I've gotten the first few bars down for this Waltz In A Minor, and hope to get it done within a couple months depending on how things go.
MJT Free Time The most important part about piano is not completion of the piece, it's the expression and musicality you put into a piece. Do not learn simplified pieces, they miss a lot of the nuances and details of the original piece
Hey Josh let me say you're doing an awesome job on your channel and I really appreciate all the work you're putting in. After 10 years of playing the piano as a (lazy) teenager you got me motivated to start playing again. I'm sure the second part is strictly part of your online lessons but could you be so kind to just tell me the fingering of the measures 33 - 36 where the first mordent appears? I'd love to have a good fingering for that part. Thank you and keep up the great work.
For this long arpeggio, I am doing completely different fingering, which I found more convenient. 1,2,1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5. In that case thumb-down travels much shorted distance of 2 notes and not 4.
Isn't the arpeggio in E Major after the triplet a quintuplet? So shouldn't we land the B note on the third beat? You said to cover all the six notes in the same time as the triplet so that wouldn't make it a quintuplet, would it?
My eyes really hurt when I learn this piece haha. I always have to look up at the sheet music then quickly down for the deep notes played with the left hand, then up and down and back again. How can I avoid this? Just memorize left hand? Im new to piano so sorry for the stupid question lol
I'm presently studying this piece with the piano score..I'm early intermediate, with piano conventionnal learning(nothing by heart)and I'm struggling with those two arpeggio runs:I'm a little too slow, unsure about the proper fingering(not mentioned on my sheet)and I watch how you speed up so beautifully....I'm sorry you don't display the music sheet above the keyboard,it would make your tutorial much more efficient and instructive...
I would recommend practicing arpeggios, a lot of arpeggios, not just E major, but all of them, so you get the fingering and all. You can also try with different w rhythms and of course practicing slowly
The new version of this app is great but I don’t think it would have to get it right away and then the next one is going down and then the other day I’ll have a lot of Money🤑🤑🤑🔄👧🏼
Thanks for this video. I agree about the closed fingering in the left hand. I realized that the more closed fingering I do, the better it is for my hands (I am trying to overcome my tendonitis). Closed fingering makes it easier to relax and not tense your fingers.
Hi Josh wright, I enjoyed this video and it improved me in many aspects. But I just have a quick doubt, is it okay if I follow any fingerings? Or am I supposed to follow only the indicated fingerings? I just asked this because I'm finding my own fingering more comfortable than the fingering given in the score of my book and ipad.
My instructor always advice me to play with our own comfortable fingering. But, in the Saturn part, like we need to play the same not more than 2 times, we better change the fingering. So, the sound much more good. But, I still not good in fingering anyway.
Played this on a competition last week and on a public concert during christmas, this video is out late! Thank you very much for this, though, Id love to improve at it.
Hello Josh, thank you for your very helpful lessons. May I ask what App you use to read the music at your tablet? I have so many sheet music as PDF and look for an app to read them without printing. Thank you very much for an advice!
Really enjoyed your tutorial, the explanation for the timing of trill is new to me and also how to make the left hand more accurate is also very helpful!
My mother played this song while pregnant and after i was born, while I was laying under her piano. It was also the first song I ever learned. Thanks for the upload Josh!
You're very lucky
It's a piece, and it is impossible to learn this piece as your first.
Swooty I was thinking the same thing
I think by "learned" he meant he memorized its melody, not like playing it on the piano. I agree that only a bad teacher would give his student this waltz as a first piece...
@@swooty2805 it’s definitely not impossible to learn as your first piece.

You look like Frédéric Chopin!
Thankyou for teaching me Josh.
Josh your practice tips are extremely helpful just so you know, extremely relaxing and it makes practicing way more fun and interesting.
The exercise at 7:21 did wonders. Practiced this for 15 mins and my jumps are so accurate now.
Thank you!
Thank you Mr. Josh
Wow, pedaling twice makes it sound so fresh and different. Amazing!
This is crazy, I'm playing this on my piano classes as my first piece after being self taught and you made a video about it!!!
Hi Josh I have subscribed this video and studied pedal, that's great explanation for people like me. I have limited formal education and your videos help a lot. I find it inspiring and very supportive! I liked pedal exactly the way you show here. Thanks a lot!
I'm just learning this!! :D

Beautiful!!!
The only problem is that I'll take like 3 months to learn this piece if I study it a lot.
Patience...

420Sports yes please Josh. Could we have commentary on bar 26 to end
I like your pedaling 2 times a bar. I haven´t done this before, but your right: to much dissonances.
Really helpful thanks man!!

Me playing this after 8 years of playing the piano. Josh: welcome to this tutorial for late beginners
Does anybody have any tipps about the part in bar 36? I can't catch up with the tempo ( well that fast that i would like to play it...)
The trills are noted as 2-4-3 on my score and it feels much more natural instead of 3-4-3, is there any reason to prefer the latter?
Personally I prefer 3-4-3 because I find it easier and more natural
I do 2-4-3 too, you do what feels most comfortable
Hm. Didn’t think there could be a better interperatation of this piece. Great job

Do u have any suggestions on how to get the fast sixteenth notes on measure 21 down. Like how can I practice that so I can get it fast
Where do you find the music sheet? Is this one in any repretorie books? I currently just started masterpieces with flair 1..
My eyes really hurt when I learn this piece haha. I always have to look up at the sheet music then quickly down for the deep notes played with the left hand, then up and down and back again. How can I avoid this? Just memorize left hand? Im new to piano so sorry for the stupid question lol
I’m memorizing the left hand
Most of the time, it is just 4 chords.
Yeah. Only four chords on the left hand. Very easy to memorize.
Arpeggio

I'm having trouble with the fingerings because my copy of the piece doesn't have fingerings on them :(
Hmm maybe I could get it
I just got to the point where I was going …..........? I’m just Trying it.
I’m 10 and playing the whole song toooooooo
Nice

Hm how much fun time I can get waltz in a minor
The eyes closed was just to flex

Wat wat at
at first I thought Hugh Grant is on camera
My son has done this in 3 days. He's 13
Nice
I AM LEARNING THAT WALZ IN A MINOR, BUT NOT TO RUSH. YOU ARE RUNNING.
Arpeggio is killing me
Try this fingering: 1,2,1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5.
YOU MOVECYOUR FINGERS TO RUSH AND I CANNOT SEE NOTHING
DO IT SLOWLY.BI NEED TO SEE YOUR FINGERS. I AM LEARNING THAT SONG NOW AND IS NOT EASY FOR ME.
slow the video down then
And don't scream at the teacher. Say please. Have manners.
The part at 00:52 is really tough for me :(. Always can't position my hands quick enough for the next octave.
Bobby Tang just practice slow and eventually you’ll get it
I would recommend practicing arpeggios, a lot of arpeggios, not just E major, but all of them, so you get the fingering and all. You can also try with different w rhythms and of course practicing slowly
Seriously Josh, these videos are clutch. I'm having issues with the arpeggio and this helped me out quite a bit.
