    Good heat spreading technique when soldering the opamps.

    hi
    do you have any link for the kit or some manual of what you did, thanks in advance

      Hi, I used the service manual from here: www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/marantz/cd-40.shtml
      For opamps I used MUSES 8920 because they are affordable and have a nice midrange. For power supply and digital circuits caps I used Nichicon KW, Panasonic FC / FM and Wurth ATG8. For analog circuit I used the same Nichicon ES plus KW. The stock blue film caps are good quality Philips so keep those. Good luck!

    What abouth does Philips axial electrolitic caps? 🤔

    • @audioupgrades
      @audioupgrades  4 місяці тому

      Those are axial due to a height restriction. The plastic bars of the case block those sites, preventing the use of radial caps. It was important to change the other caps in the drive circuit because they were broken and preventing the disc from spinning and reading. The axial caps took a bit longer to source so I changed them later.

      @@audioupgrades i disagrie. does are bad very often,u can use radial and just lye them on bord.

      @@srboljubsrbic7431 The player worked perfectly and sounded great without changing the axials. I don't like mashing things up, so I replaced them with axials later. They weren't in stock so they took a few weeks extra.

      @@srboljubsrbic7431 I have changed them for new axials already. If you use radials you have to leave the legs too long and shield them with silicone tubing. I prefer honouring the original design, when possible.

    pretty hard to see what you are doing and no list of parts replaced

    • @audioupgrades
      @audioupgrades  Рік тому +1

      Fair comment. I replaced all the radial electrolytic capacitors. They had dried out and caused the CD driver circuits to malfunction. It's a fairly common fault in really old CD players.

      @@audioupgrades tx good info for those looking here. I have some BB opa604 I might try after recapping. I guess you wouldnt want to spend too much on such a budget player.

      @@raoulduke1914 Exactly, that's why I use Muses 8920 on low-end equipment. Mind you, with the 16 bit TDA1541 dac, it still has potential.

    Hello, did u change also the smd caps ?

    • @audioupgrades
      @audioupgrades  3 роки тому +1

      Hello. I left the smd resistors and caps in place. Generally, they have little impact on sound.This was a simple upgrade with new opamps and electrolytic refreshers to make better use of the TDA1541 dac. On more elaborate units, I'll change smd bypass caps to radial film caps.
