We need to be bombarded with personal stories of these poor people fleeing for their lives. The media is so busy dehumanising refugees that we never get to hear the facts that would help us empathise and find a compassionate solution. This current government will be remembered as the worst in the history of these Isles.

  • @cerieti

The thing is, you can't say "we Even warmed up to refugees". Like you mentioned, because of race, you became warm towards Ukrainians. The premise of being warm to refugees stops being valid BECAUSE it's not refugees if it's only warmth for specific people. Just like you can't say, we became warm to hugs if it's only hugs from one specific person.

When you see the terrible corruption and the outrageous incompetence of their current Tory government and the you look across the House of Commons and you see the main political opposition is equally as incompetent and incapable! Its very hard as a simple civilian to stay at 100% attention to Ukraine when our own government is so pitiful and unresponsive to the will of the people in regards to supporting Ukraine. It saps the will to feel so completely powerless, to just be a witness while our government picks its nose.
Arguably, NATO and the west should have been in Ukraine with troops on the ground when Russia pushed beyond Crimea - we promised to protect them when they gave up Nuclear Weapons. Possibly the only reason a black market nuke never disappeared and detonated in London or New York or Jeruselem is because a Ukraine which couldn't manage those weapons agreed to give them up in exchange for our protection, and we failed when that call to protect came due.

With regard to Goldman Sachs, as someone who works in the industry you need to get the idea out of your head that just because someone worked at an investment bank they're a finance or economics expert. Analyst is actually just the entry level job title that everyone that works there has (probably 30+% of the full time employees have the job title of "vice president"), even if you're just in IT. I think Rishi had a management career there and subsequently. He wasn't a trader or anyone making institutional investment/risk decisions.

Russia has struck ships and facilities on the border of Romania and fired missiles over Poland and NATO didn't shoot them down even though they could have as they were scared of escalation.

Paused before you got into this topic:
Roh row! It's happened , I agree with a single thing one Tory has ever said!
Think about how Putin justified invading Ukraine, I have been on about this since he invaded.
Putin said if Ukraine joins NATO he cannot abide Ukraine on his border, so his hand was forced. There was foil hat hypernormalisation stuff that came later but the NATO thing was the initial public reason. Go look out a map of mainland Europe. You found Ukraine? See how many countries border it? This is iffy memory so please check this number, there is like 8 countries that share a border with a maybe soon totally occupied Ukraine (thanks conservative movement for pivoting and moaning about giving military aid to Zelenskyy, 'can you do us a favor though?').
Write down the names of the countries.
Now look up the members of NATO... roh row.
If he takes Ukraine he need only dust off his flimsy excuse for invading Ukraine, scribble out the word Ukraine and write in the name of one of the several NATO countries bordering Putin occupied Ukraine.
It's hardly palace intrigue, it's just a bit of stating a couple of obvious things. What would stop him? His conscience? He kills people in other countries without meaningful consequences! Tommy ten names need told aid to Ukraine is UK defense spending 'cause if he takes Ukraine then a or several NATO countries, he borders more NATO countries and so on and so forth til you are in your sleep village wearing a bear skin hat and misjudged tweet leads to your disappearance.

James's dismissiveness of certain views is noted. I come to this channel just like i visit other narrow minded channels like The Telegraph's Ukraine, the latest and most official ones to note the margins of their way of thinking and ignorance. Running the full range of idiocy and stupidity, anti history and willfull blindness. James is no exception. The selfrighteousness and played earnestness is laughable. Somewhat amusing if it wasnt so broadly shared and tragic. Misconceptions galore.

Not a chance he attacked Ukraine with little to no notice. If not for NATO what's to stop him from going after all of Europe?

How do you support that opinion? All they wanted was a neutral Ukraine….even after the moved to prevent that, they would have withdrawn if Ukraine agreed to be neutral and they had international guarantees. Boris Johnson put an end to that with his pathetic revival of a Churchill speech probably. Puten doesn’t even want to manage a west Ukraine…

I don't think he would push on for the next 30 years. Short term, Russia is not gonna be able to do much. Long term, better not to think about it.
Think about what you do and represent yourself as now, it will matter in few decades.
