I love how Lowko only seemed to notice that the Spire had fallen, when, in fact, by 19:36, *every* tech structure Dark had was killed (Infestation Pit bleeding out). Until the new spire finished, he literally couldn't produce army, and a new Spawning Pool didn't even start until 23:26 >-> (In-game times, 19:46 & 23:39 in video time)
24:08 "Still no Hive tech for Zerg" when Dark has 4 Hatcheries, a Lair, a Spire, and two Spore Crawlers, like, you're asking a bit much of the guy who got sent back to the stone age, and not ten seconds later 'man Dark should probably start making some stuff' when he can't spend it if he wanted to lolol
@@GBS4893 A long time ago when muta play was very common in zvp zergs actually played that combination a lot. The reason showtime could not fight them head on was that after the 3 carriers and +1 air attacked he switched off air. If the opponent wants to match you in air and you already have the head start phoenix+voids in combination will just deal with it any time. I don't see any innovation here, just reviving a pretty old common style.
Yes, but did you know that they have 8 interceptors each, and each of those 8 interceptors shoots from each side, and each of those shots gets +1 for each air weapons upgrade?
What a game. The thing that interests me is Dark wasn't doing this from a position of a huge bank- the whole game he was continually spending his money yet fielding theoretically inferior units that he continually replenished- balanced on a knife edge instead of remaxing after losing entire armies. I wonder how far into the game he calibrated his build- and how important it was to take bases early just for gas, & to stay on lair tech.
There is nothing unique with this. Mass mutas with corruptors is something protoss players have seen in all levels of play. It is known for the players who play this game for some years that muta - corruptor combo is not easily countered by protoss air or ground. Ground lacks mobility and can't defend all these bases (that is why showtime lost at the end) and phoenices aren't enough. Imho the interesting thing would be the case that Showtime responded with speed voids + phoenices. However this is difficult because Protoss can't produce these units easily.
As a Protoss player I love the Phoenix play and agree that Storm seemed like a good choice. I really hope to see changes to more micro focus strategies in Protoss lategame, but cant really blame the pro-players for playing the "superior" build, thats for the balance team to change
Showtime made some big beginner mistakes. First: 8:14 His artosis pylon on the 3 stargates stopping phoenix production Second: 9:05 Because of his interrupted phoenix production, he couldn't defend efficiently and let probe dies Third: 12:34 Like Lowko says, not having storm is an issue against mass muta. 1 storm, even briefly damaging mutas would change the tide of battle. For me this is not Skytoss. A skytoss would have kept void and phoenix production to heavily counter the mass muta corrupter. Mass phoenix would eventually counter corrupters because they outrange and outspeed them. Add few templars for base defense and it would have been a whole other game.
When you were talking about the archon splash damage I remembered one game I played a long ago. I was playing terran vs a zerg opponent, the map was almost mined out and I was trapped in my main base, so the opponent sent a massive swarm of mutas to kill my SCVs... they all died in one volley of mine missiles... dude surrendered on the spot.
I've been there as a Zerg. I looked at my mutas. Swapped back to get some drones. Swapped to the mutas, but the hotkey didn't work. So I clicked the map. All dead.
Hope you feel better Lowko! Thanks for always providing great casting and great content. Take care and reach out to the community for rehab techniques if/when you lose your taste and smell!
Hey Lowko! I got the same stuff last thanksgiving time and I had to spend 3 nights in the hosptital. Just make sure you are breathing good and your Blood Ox levels don't get low. Its the pneumonia that will get you. Other then that theres nothing to worry about. Anyway Love the vids. Hope you feel better soon! (I got it twice and the second time it was gone in like 3 days FYI)
Man this game was fresh! Reminds me of when phoenixes where more popular. Very good feeling as a zerg to see this. I wish you well Lowko, hoping the bad symptoms stay away, at least it's honey time!
Anyone else feel like Showtime threw what should have been an easy win? Lowko only said it a million times but storm would have turned that match on its head. Probably wouldn't have hurt to throw up a few more cannons on those outer expansions. Wouldn't have stopped the mutas but maybe deter Dark slightly/bought time for the Phoenix
Muta vs Protoss is very Heart of the Swarm-ish. Not really something seen often in LotV. Even though Dark likely spent time practicing this style to see if it was viable... he definitely seems a bit uncomfortable with it. ShowTime as well didn't seem to feel confident in dealing with it either. Both likely never felt safe enough or ahead enough to gamble the gas on tech. Both probably felt that spending the resources on it would cause them to fall too far behind on army supply, which given the comps they were playing is a matter of snowballing. Dark also made a serious effort to keep Showtime's carrier count as low as possible until he was eventually able to snipe all of them. This forced Showtime into having to add more and more phoenix/voidray/archon. On the other hand, as is typical, Showtime used zealot runbys to slowdown / occupy Dark. This forces dark to need lings and roaches, since he can't keep chasing the zealots down with his mutas. Long story short, if either had left the other alone for more than maybe 90 seconds... Storm and/or Vipers would absolutely have been added. And as someone who used to play an air zerg ZvP style in HotS and early LotV... can confirm, it is pretty good mid-late game if you can snowball (fun, too).
Lowko do you make money if we buy your announcer pack in SC2? I'd like to toss some minerals in your direction, but it'd be nice to have you tell me if I don't have enough overlords.
I noticed you said 'nice Magic Boxing on the mutas', at around 23:29, hardcore edit: Ok so I looked up magic boxing and, now I ask, when you said that LowKo, did you mean ShowTime was magic boxing the Phoenix's or that Dark was magic boxing' the Mutas, kinda like in Broodwar? please clarify, somebody
Glad you asked. So magic boxing (i.e. not clumping) is a strategy that mitigates splash damage by keeping one's air units spread out as they move. The default behavior (if the units are selected via control group) is for the units to converge on their destination. In this case, Dark had to kill those two Archons with Mutas, and quickly magic boxed to kill them without taking too much splash damage. Though it can be used with Phoenix, the lack of Zerg splash damage in that engagement would have made it irrelevant.
Feel better, Lowko. Huge fan of your stuff, but take it easy. There were a couple times in the middle of the match when you got things flipped (you said 32 probes died when it was drones, and then commented that it was going well for Showtime's defense when Showtime was attacking). Much love though, definitely a cool game that you brought us.
1) So sorry you have "the virus" Simon. Take care of you and your voice! 2) I think this is a great opportunity for a "whisper cast" ^_^ ASMR casting haha
I love how everyone in the comments is also avoiding using the name of lowko’s ailment. UA-cam effectively banned that word when it was newer. Now it’s safe to say but still respect ✊
I also wish you a speedy and good recovery! If necessary, grow some spore and spine crawlers to defend against Covid-19's Canon Rush. Get well soon and take a break when needed. Cheers!
Point is that after he choosed to play skytoss he didn't have enough resources and time to play that storm. If he get that storm too early he wouldn't have enough units to protect his bases, if he goes too late then he cannot control skyzerg army.
I thought about this, If solar had put a single spine crawler and single sport crawler in that nook they would’ve made it extremely difficult for heromarine To jump back-and-forth. I don’t know if that would have made it so that solar would have won… but maybe
It makes so much nonsense that it totally makes sense. A giant muta-corruptor ball. He can replenish his giant deathstar all at once. Protoss cannot. Then Mutas can go and attack workers in the down time between "wins" Edit: And I was too doubtful to say it, but the roaches were what I was thinking. But we'll see how that goes.
You'll get through this Bruder, most people I know who caught the bug After they were Vaxxed, barely lost their stride. Down for a week maybe, back full swing within 3 weeks.
Ya its just the standard mutaruptor PvZ match. Rofl. I have never seen such an efficient Zerg match before. I mean obviously protoss was MORE efficient, but thats just how zerg swarm works. …Can Phoenixes kite Corruptors? I mean it looks like the damage Pheonixes deal to them is basically tickles so I’m sure outside of the best players it doesn’t matter. But still… weird game design to have the fastest air unit also have long range.
Actually it kind of works out to be a disadvantage (for the phoenix). They are much faster, which means they get out of range of the corruptors really quickly. So what ends up happening is you have to double-back to shoot at the corruptors. Good zergs know this, and bait out those movements. If you're fast enough and keep your corruptor ball tight enough, they can get a volley off and (hopefully) 1 shot a phoenix. Rinse and repeat and eventually the corruptors will outlast the phoenix. High level games turn into what you saw above, this back-and-forth dance where not really a whole lot happens until someone screws up. To do what you're describing would require a LOT of babysitting and gently stutter stepping the phoenix on the edge of their range. It's not really practical given how acceleration works in SC2. In a UMS micro-battle or some isolated scenario, it's definitely possible to micro phoenix indefinitely against pretty much anything. In a real game, however, you're A) not going to have room to do it, and B) you'd have to sacrifice all of your attention needed for macro/defending runbys, etc. And then there's C)... no one outside of maybe silver/gold is going to let you do it.
If you've been fully vaccinated it seems like the symptoms you get are almost nonexistent. Get well soon! Now that you mention it, I'm kinda bummed to not see the best of 5 instead. This game was cool though. I love how Dark's composition forced Showtime away from Carriers. I would've liked to see some Void Rays to counter the Corrupters... Although maybe they were too mobile for that.
it was really ackward how he said stop licking the monitor, exactly when i was licking it
Cheeto dust? I thought everyone cleaned their electronics by licking?
Always seems to happen
i lick it only in the end when lowkos pictures apears.

Dark is reaching "Bly, why?" levels of uniqueness with his builds.
I'd call this Dark hitting the mark, as he so often does!
I mean... This might become meta though. That was more efficient ressource-wise than many zerg builds!

Yes it is intriguing if this could be refined further.
Man, one fungal on that group of phoenixes would be so good
Was tested positive yesterday, so I feel ya... :D nice cast, as always, and interesting game, something refreshing in comparison to "normal" PvZ
As much as I love ShoWTimE, I had to root for Dark in this game with the unique strategy he chose :) Great game, great cast

That would have been awesome to see. I LOVE seeing a Protoss air force get annihilated. Damn near brings me to tears...of pure joy. LOL game on!
Fungal would have done greater effect on that protoss army and not require hive tech.
Have a quick recovery, and keep the happy face (voice is absolutely fine) !
I love his switching around with his unit mix as a response to the enemy mix. Like the ravager adding. Still using mutas the whole game. Love it
I was fighting a smiliar army a few days ago and one fungal to the Phoenix voidrays made me win the game with my corrupt & muta
Imagine they add not just storms but fungal too
Yes, storm and fungal would have been great in this match.
Holy crud, get well soon Mr lowko. All the best. Really appreciate the I gotta make content even if I get covid kinda spirit. Take care

Lowko just told me to stand 6ft from my screen when I'm already on the other side of the world from him.
i love it when lowko groups marines with things that counter mutas like storms and archons, totally not saying that marines die to storm

The prob with these what ifs is that zerg would ha e responded differently then he did this game and adjusted.
Wish there were some storms.
First of all, I hope you get in good health soon, Lowko! Second, what a game, love the fresh strategy against skytoss. Third, great cast as always
Hope you have a speedy, full recovery. Very cool game.

How dare you not say you had COVID immediately. My face was one foot away from the monitor. Great. Now I probably have COVID too.
Muta + Corruptor is the new norm now ;) Showtime should have go for more high templar and storm !!!
*Stays 5.11 feet from the screen* You're not my dad lowko you can't tell me what to do
Your voice always sounds funny 😜 (because of the Dutch accent, which always sounds funny to me as a fellow Dutchman).
for someone batteling the most deadly dissese ever in existance you sound amazing xD

Will you consider playing modded starcraft?
Make sure to get lots of rest, and not push yourself hard for a little bit. I always love the casts, I hope you're feeling 100% soon.
Hopefully you get better soon Lowko
Bringing up the resources tab is a great tool, but 22 probes for 5 Mutas will ALWAYS be worth it…
Don't forget the two void rays - they were on top of the 22 workers
Take it easy Lowko, get a break if you need it. I hope you recover quickly, best wishes!
Doesn't surprise me that the mutas went so well. I play protoss and I always get trashed by mutas. Of course my micro and scouting are awful bc I'm only silver league but still lol
