Not only that, but comparing this RHCP record to Californication is a bit apples and oranges. OK, a LOT apples and oranges. THIS was them at their funkiest AND most commercially successful.
@@sgenetti77 Californication is nothing compared with Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik... that album has much more than just funk rockers, it's one of the best albums ever. I'm not meaning that Californication is a bad album, these guys are unable of making bad albums, but we're talking of another lever in regards of BSSM
You answered your own question, Red hot is "Funky". One of those bands that are apart from genres, it´'s rock and is popular. It´s like Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink floyd, Doors and several other bands that have their own sound. PS: You don´t listen red hot for the lyrics, you listen for the music, the opposite of rap.
And he is from Woori Yallock Australia. I grew up in a town nearby. My god I just remembered, my brother saw the chilli peppers in Healesville, he held the door to the local pub for Anthony. No doubt flea was showing them round the local area where he grew up.
I just really liked this whole album. Good pick. RHCP has really floated across genres through their career. They kind of started as funky pop/punk, and now you may hear some of their songs on some soft rock stations.
Putting this into perspective, these guys were rockin' this in the 80's....so this is almost 40 years old..long before others were doing similar..credit !!
older RHCP is fun they're more punky/funky...the most popular song is Under the Bridge which I know everyone on earth has heard. You might like that one, pretty deep
The whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (Blood Sugar Sex Magik). They started off more punky in the 80s and got real real funky for a long time in the 90s. Californication was the start of their 3rd era/newer sound. Check out the song "Give it Away". You might heard it. Huge hit in the early 90s, same album.
Good song to start on. This song is a classic, one of their early ones. If you start early with the red hot chili peppers, there later albums make more sense. They’re really based in funk, but add elements of rock and punk.
RHCP are punk/funk that has mellowed considerably with age. Their second album was produced by George Clinton after all and they have been active since the early 80s. This is from their breakthrough album, and in many ways was the last album they released that was this potent. They mellowed considerably after this album (and it's followup).
React to chili peppers - under the bridge. One of their best. Amazing song. Loving the reactions! I'm digging the fact that you'll listen to anything and give it an honest chance. Good on ya bro!
The weird thing about the chili peppers is they have a ton of albums over decades, they all seem to have a different sound, but they all fit the chili peppers.
I think that you would find them in the Alternative section in a record store. But with that said... Chili Peppers are an original band. Just enjoy it.
Love the dog!! Never seen him/her before but grew up with huskies ☺️ And RHCP been around since the 80’s. They’ve done all kinds of music. Hell, they covered Stevie Wonder’s Higher Ground in the 80’s!! Flea is one of my favorite Bassists too
Dope song from a dope band, endless amazing songs. These guys pioneered rap Rock and funk rock/metal in the 80-90s then did a bunch of alt rock in the 2000s
black musicians have influenced rock music deeply, so there is definitely roots in hiphop/rap in red hot chili peppers. I would say this era is like hiphop/funk/punk. The guitarist's idol was Jimi Hendrix, who was a groundbreaking black guitarist, the greatest of all time, influenced by blues/rnb etc.
How did you know to turn it off so quickly, you cut off the Ss. I've listened to this album so many times, it's tattooed in my mind. So I know the next track starts without a gap.
If I were to start my own band and had the pick of any bassist, Flea would be right there in the running (John Paul Jones and Geddy Lee would be the other 2). He has all the crazy skills on bass, but the best compliment I can give him is he knows when to turn it down. Check out their version of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground. It's an excellent cover.
RHCP is always a good choice man. They kind of hit rock, pop, rap, funk, metal, "skater music", and probably a few others I forgot. I think their best two albums are Mother's Milk and Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Their last one was pretty good. They cover a lot of ground musically though, so you kind of got to listen to sampling of everything they do so you can see what pockets of theirs you like.
I loooooooooove RHCP! Probably because they are very nice to watch too. lol! I had a boring job some time ago and I would listen to Blood Sugar Sex Magik (the album) a LOT! Gotta love 'em! They made my job doable. (Kinda.) A lotta Stevie Nicks too.
How about listening to Jimmi Hendrix? Songs: - Hey Joe - Purple Haze - Machine Gun (Live Version) - Voodoo Child - All Along the Watchtower And one of the main pioneers of Punk Rock, the Afro-American band named Death? Songs: - Politicians In My Eyes - Keep On Knocking - You're A Prisioner The pop as well as the experimental music scene was great in the 60's and 70's (with bands such as The Animals, Beach Boys, The Beatles, Aretha Frankin, Bob Marley on one hand and, on the othe, more alternative side, musicians such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Ron Carter, Elvin Jones, Ornette Coleman, Weather Report, Nina Simone, The Doors, Bob Dylan,, Death, Jimmi Hendrix, Cream, John Mclaughlin, Led Zeppelin, Mahavishnu Orchestra and King Crimson) but the mainstream music quality dropped sharply in the 80's with all the dance pop shit (which I can hardly qualify as music) and easy beat drums. Middle ground wise, things only improved again in the 90's and 00's with the rise of Rock, Metal and Jazz bands such as Melvins, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Audioslave, Tool, Radiohead, Perfect Circle, Muse, Rage Against The Machine, Unsane, The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In, Queens Of The Stone, Death From Above 1979, Eagles Of Death Metal - and on a more indie level - Melt Banana, Dub Trio, Russian Circles, Battles, Red Sparowes, Tomahawk, Big Business, Fantômas, Mike Patton, Zu, Cephalic Carnage, Necrophagist, Car Bomb, Secret Chiefs 3, Cleric, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Kayo Dot, Client Mansell, Amon Tobin, Brian Reitzell, Kronos Quartet, Pain Killer, Naked City, Marc Ribot, Rashanim, John Zorn, Electric Masada, Aram Bajakian, Lightning Bolt, Marnie Stern, The Bad Plus, Peter Brotzmann, Paal Nielsen Love, Craig Taborn and Buffalo Collision. Check them out in that order. It's easier to apreciate them this way.
man people sleep on their early era, and I don't know why the fuck they do haha you should check some of their 87-96 phase, like Stone Cold Bush, Backwoods, Me and My Friends, Good Time Boys, Funky Monks, Sir Psycho Sexy, Walkabout and some others. They are funky af man, and people think Red Hot Chili Peppers is only californication, scar tissue, snow and dani california lmao
The previous commentators are correct. RHCP is more of a funk, rock, some punk undertones band. Faith No More had some of that going on, but Janes Addiction as someone mentioned is really good (more on the rock side). RHCP is definitely not ska, although 3rd wave ska veered in every conceiveable fusion direction. Sublime really isn't ska either, although they maybe had a couple ska songs in the repetoire. They were more punk-reggae-rock. Check out Streetlight Manifesto everythings numb album for the heavier side of third wave ska.
This song/album is hugely responsible for me playing BASS! #1992 #funknastyaltrock Imagine being exposed to RedhotChiliPeppers and RageAgainstTheMachine at the same time it was a very good year!!!!
Back in the early 90s this was alternative. At least when I was like 10 yrs old. Rhcp is amazing. If you don't react to under the bridge you're missing out and doing your rhcp fans an injustice.
They are alternative rock my friend..but they have always reinvented their music over the years. Even now....they are making a new album. John Frusciante their original Lead guitarist is back after a 10+ year departure
Blood Sugar Sex Magik produced by the legend Rick Rubin, George Clinton all over the album too....bottom line...the album is a masterpiece of funk, soul, and groove!
This album should be listened to as a whole offering. One of those albums that changed the way l approach music.
Me too.

Amen, Brother Kevin!
Chilli peppers are my jam, they are punk-funk, try "blood, sugar, sex, magic" from same album, it will turn you into a fan of them garenteed.
Magik
You answered your own question, Red hot is "Funky".

PS: You don´t listen red hot for the lyrics, you listen for the music, the opposite of rap.
Kinda like Rage Against the Machine too
You come to the Peppers for the great musical components, but you stay for Anthony's unique lyrical style... Just saying
Also, flea, the bassist, is one of the best to ever do it! Dude brings that funky ass bass line you can groove to
He also voices Donnie Thornberry.
And he is from Woori Yallock Australia. I grew up in a town nearby. My god I just remembered, my brother saw the chilli peppers in Healesville, he held the door to the local pub for Anthony. No doubt flea was showing them round the local area where he grew up.
I would listen to SIR PSYCHO SEXY from that album. It's a super funky funny ass dirty jam.
great reaction man love the constant pauses to express your feelings of the song as it goes on. i really like your reaction style
I fucking love your dog, Huskies are such a beautiful and smart breed.
Wow you've got a proper dog! Enjoying your videos here, I have an Alaskan Malamute myself. Keep up the good work 👍.
Song starts, and the dogs like "lemme get closer so I can hear this" 🤣🤣
I just really liked this whole album. Good pick. RHCP has really floated across genres through their career. They kind of started as funky pop/punk, and now you may hear some of their songs on some soft rock stations.
Great song from a great album!! Finally someone checking out some older RHCP!!!🤘🏻
Old school RHCP is probably best categorized as "underground funk-punk-rock rappers"
Putting this into perspective, these guys were rockin' this in the 80's....so this is almost 40 years old..long before others were doing similar..credit !!
Aye brother, I promise you I would watch every video you make on the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Funk/groove rock for me.
Blood sex sugar magic is their best album easy! It's so fuckin good!
OTC Phillip reporting for duty Sir! 💪😤💯
Early chilli peppers is fantastic 80s and 90s albums for me are their best
older RHCP is fun they're more punky/funky...the most popular song is Under the Bridge which I know everyone on earth has heard. You might like that one, pretty deep
Red Hot Chili Peppers -Can’t Stop!!!!

They are All about a funk rock fusion and are classified as alternative rock.
Awe I love your dog so damn cute 💜
This whole album man. RHCP are legends in their own right. Good stuff.
There is nearly 40 years of RHCP. Their music can be placed in several categories.
First time I've seen your dog. Your dog is amazing.
Loved this album...🔥
Who’s your co-star today? Beautiful pup.
That is quest
They are fantastic musicians. I think even though they are a huge band they didnt get enough attention for their musicianship as a whole.
They get a lot of hate and idk why
Incubus - Hilikus
Funky shit right here
The weird thing about the chili peppers is they have a ton of albums over decades, they all seem to have a different sound, but they all fit the chili peppers.
"Three days" by Jane's Addiction. PLEASE!
That's the song I want to hear on my deathbed
Yes! Please
At this moment...
You should be with us...
Feeling like we do...
Like you want to...
But never will again...
FLEA ON BASS IS BADASS!
They are a Funk Rock band from the early 80's. And turned into just a rock band in the 00's
One of my favourite Peppers song is "Otherside" its more melodic and emotional, but simple and powerful.
This entire album, Blood Sugar Sex Magic," is funky asf fire
Knock Me Down and Higher Ground as two of my early RHCP tunes.
Son, Higher Ground is a Stevie Wonder original. RHCP version is tame.
@@edvinlaine A: I'm a chick. B: I already know that. RHCP covered it.

Soooo awesome that you are not doing what all the others have done and not from the mainstream rhcp. Peppers fan since the beginning.
“Suck my kiss” is a double entendre if you read the entire lyrics of the song

"Funky Scat Rock" Works for me.
Sir Psycho Sexy by them. Same album I believe. Very funky, rap scheme to the vocals, and hilarious lyrics.
This song is pure funk 😁
Dope song from a dope band, endless amazing songs. These guys pioneered rap Rock and funk rock/metal in the 80-90s then did a bunch of alt rock in the 2000s
They deffo had that rap vibe from the 80s coming into this album and the previous one Mother's Milk? I think
Dark Necessities Red Hot Chili Pepper's...from 2016...you will like it...it's back to more of their funky side.
John Frusciante and Flea on the guitar and bass. Two masters
Impossible someone dislike this music
this era of RHCP were a fusion of many genres. You might get a kick out of many tracks from this album.
