- You may not notice, but your 2 dollar bills and other currency feature different signatures and series years - including letter suffixes. When do they change and why? The producer of The Two Dollar Bill Documentary reveals all in this explainer video that the treasury never bothered to make!

What a great study . One of the better ones on the two dollar. Thank you.
Thank you! I'm surprised it took me so long to figure out to do this as a video, but I'm glad I did. I learned a little something too. :)
Thanks for another great addition to the series.
Thanks for always watching!
I knew it had to be something like that but never knew what exactly thanks much for clearing this confusion up
Happy to have made a video that answered this question. Thanks for the comment.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary welcome
So THAT’S how it works. That question has been on my mind for a long time now. Even though I never asked it in the community tab, thanks for answering my question. 😂
I'm thanking myself too for looking it up! I did all this work to research and learn about the $2 bill, and never really looked into this enough to understand it. I knew it'd be a good topic for a video. Glad I could help! Thanks for watching.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary No problem, brother.

I began to call my bank once in awhile and have them order two full straps of $2 bills from the BEP. In the last one, I had found my first Star Note.
That's terrific! Some banks won't even bother ordering them for customers. Nice to see you not only get them but pick up a star note as well.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍💰💵❤️
Excellent informative presentation!
Thank you! A lot of people have said that, which is nice to see.
I was searching for a half an hour before I found this video. Thanks for the info on the series information.
Glad you finally found it! You can always submit a question on my Community page, and if I haven't done a video on itm I usually will. Plus, you get mailed a $2 bill if I use your question to make a video!
Fascinating
Best Bill Bro
I checked my $2 bills had 2003A & 2017A one each.
Do you think their will be a new 2021 or 2022 2 dollar bill?
I believe there were more printed last year, so it's possible the series year will be 2021. We'll have to wait and see when they're released. Because we have a new Secretary of the Treasury, I'm sure any new release would be 2021 and up.
So, and this might sound stupid, but when the "new" $5 bill came out in 2008 I believe why was it still a series 2006 even though the last printing of the "old" style notes also dated 2006? The prefix letter changed, but shouldn't the series date have as well, since this would be considered a major change? I know this isn't $2 bill related, but something I've wondered and watching this made me even more curious!
I'm not as familiar with $5 bills, so I'd have to see them to answer correctly. But if you're talking about the prefix letter that comes before the serial number, that has nothing to do with a design change or anything else. It's just which district bank that particular bill (or run of bills) will be sent to for distribution. In any series year of any bill, there could be 12 different prefix letters - one for each bank. If the design hasn't otherwise changed, the series year will stay the same. Hope that answers your question.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary I get what you are saying. Here is my attempt at rewording my original question. If you look up '2006 $5 bill' you can see that they were printed in both the colorized and the non colorized variety. Much like your $20 bill example in the video, except the redesigned bill still kept the series 2006. They were announced to the public in 2007, and released into circulation in 2008. Just weird to me. I know this isn't an area of your experience, so thanks John for your reply!
If I remember where you get the 2 dollars 💵 from 4:18 is from the how many 2 dollars bill from the bank I can get video right?
I get them all the time from the bank, but yes, I definitely got a bunch during the making of that video.
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary ok
So basically it adds as a safety feature where all the numbers and signatures has to fit together for the note to be legit?
To some degree, yes. But that's not the main reason they do it.
I wonder what is the difference of bills from the same year? 🤔🤔🤔
Bills from the same year won;t have anything different except the serial number

Thanks for watching! Appreciate the comment.
what about $1 2017 and 2017A . Design and signatures are the same. Why different series?
I don't think I've seen any 2017 $1 bills, or if I have, I didn't bother to look at that. Something definitely changed. Those bills usually don't have counterfeiting items on them, but maybe that's the add, and maybe it's something like a watermark that you cant immediately see. I'll look into it!
Why is there no 2 dollar bills for fake money
There are! I finally found some in the making of this video: ua-cam.com/video/xU2lTapr_ws/v-deo.html
Sooo the 2017 $ 2 bill with a A below means?
Did the video not answer that question? Not being sarcastic - honest question. I thought it was addressed!
I immediately checked my one and only $2 for anything interesting. Just 2009, no letters.
Even if they had letters, it wouldn't do much as far as value. One thing I cut out of this video is the fact that sometimes the "A" version is more common than the one without the letter. Adding a letter doesn't mean less were printed, it just means there was a minor change, and then the Fed ordered a higher amount to be printed based on demand.
I try to keep demand here in Texas. I did trade a Ben Franklin for Thomas Jeffersons.. Some tellers are all too happy to trade!
Is there a bill with an h after the year? I am h gang and believe that h is the best letter
I think there is... but maybe not on a 2. Other bills, printed more frequently, may have gone to H. I'd have to look it up.
So why does 1934 bills say " series of 1934 "?
I loved the education on the letters after the date, thank you.
I'm honestly not as familiar with bills of other denominations, but I do know that the 1928 $2 bill says "Series of 1928" . That tells me that all bills said "Series of" until a design change that had to have taken place before 1953, since that year's $2 bill no longer says "Series of". Thus, my answer is, that was just part of the design and text on all U.S. currency beginning in 1928 (when bills went from a larger size to the current size). Ultimately, they made a design change and removed that wording. Hope that answers the question!
I have a fun video idea if you are still doing them. So I sell two dollar bills for 5 dollars to peer and they think it is worth it. Why is that?
We're still making videos. Two in the production line now, headed out soon. You want me to do a video on you selling $2 bills for $5?
You will love to know that I have 136 In Numbers of 02 dollar bills In India Delhi.
I think I am the Only One with the maximum No of 02 dollar bills in India.
How do you know no one has more?
what will happen when the 2021series comes out and we don’t have a treasurer
Good question! Just default to Bugs Bunny, I say.
I got 40 of them now. Though they are all from 1976. Must be the most common.
People think the 1976s are the most rare because they're the oldest of the green-treasury-seal bills. But there were 400 million printed in that run, and no other run has come close to that. So yes, the 1976s are the most common even though many people stuffed theirs in a sock drawer for safe keeping.
If the treasurer is a minor change and requires a letter suffix, than why is there a 2017A series when the treasurer hasn’t changed?
Why do some people hate the 2$ bill so much?
Probably because they think they're bad luck, which is explained in this video: ua-cam.com/video/lUXhwYvvXK8/v-deo.html
@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary thank you for responding
how do i get my hands on a 2 dollar bill red sealed
i have none of them XD
Try eBay. Otherwise, go to a bunch of banks and get however many $2 bills they have, and keep your fingers crossed that a red seal sneaks in there. I got three of them when I went to only ten banks, in this video: ua-cam.com/video/bpfBAwf2HPI/v-deo.html
😂
i picked up 40 dollars in twos and it all said
2017 A
