I’m an EMT, working on an ambulance I can say that those ambulances are super sluggish and fall apart. And I will also say, be careful walking on the roof of an ambulance, they made weak in the event one of the oxygen tanks explodes, it explodes upwards as opposed to outwards to protect everyone around the ambulance. Just some fun facts.
If it's a Braun ambulance you will be able to walk all over the roof cause they are solid body's and the roof structure is all completely tied in and welded...how do I know this...well I still am currently working for the Braun ambulance manufacturer in Van Wert Ohio.
As a former EMT some of the equipment in the ambulance you could probably sell to volunteer fire department or rescue squad. The back boards, the cot, I thought I seen a stair chair in it. most of that stuff can be sold and re used. or ebay even.
Having worked for a private ambulance company for sometime, all of this is hilarious. Also, don't buy an ambulance, we all abuse the absolute shit out of them. . .
The cot, monitor, stair chair, backboards could be donated to a volunteer company. Give everything in the box a really good cleaning and make sure to vacuum out the air filter in the back. A lot of that stuff gets overlooked and should be taken care of before turning it into a living place.
There’s a decent amount of money in medical equipment on that ambulance.. that monitor and stretcher will pay for the ambulance itself when you sell them
This is why Dan is the best! I get bored so I click youtube and in my head I say "Come on Dan! Post something" Click on subscriptions and Dan posted 5 seconds ago
That fish n chips thing got my laughing my ass off XD. I could watch a whole video of you just going around to random people and saying that through the PA
I’ve used retired ambulances for my electrical company for the last 7 years. They are amazing trucks. You can get them for dirt cheap, they are well maintained, and have sooo much indoor space, and it is 1000x better than a cargo van!
just letting you know it might be the transmission control module, if its stuck in one gear (which may be 4th), and if when you put it in drive it makes a cuncluk sound, also if you don't have a indicator showing its in drive or park, this happened to my dads truck and its a simple fix, just change the device and boom it works, but yes it may just be the trans
As a firefighter for 10 years and watching your videos for about just as long... I am so hype for this build. Also straight dying listening too you trying to name the stuff in the ambulance. Keep on keeping on dan!
Yes, cardiac monitors are worth some money. Can't tell if y'all have a Zoll or a LifePak, but the Philips monitors we have at my service retail for about $15k brand new.
Good job Ham, way to take the big step👍🏻 Can't wait to see what you guys do with it, it's gonna be so unique from the other builds. Dan better do one of those live edge epoxy counters or something in there👍🏻
Gives me good memories, I did the same back in 2018 travelled around Canada, USA and Mexico with an old toronto ambulance. Living full time for a year in that with my gf. I would do it again any day.
I watched all kinds of videos on Vanlife and different builds a couple years ago. Definitely looking forward to seeing what you guys end up doing with this thing.
11:00 LOL I love how he says, "Hey, don't hit my truck with your **ambulance**, like he's deliberately "saying it for the first time" to get his buddy accustomed to owning an ambulance :D
Hey Dan, it might be a good idea to swap the transmission filter now and clean up the valve body just to get the van mobile again. It should be simple and cheap enough to get it around the shop. plus dropping the pan to change the fluid will let you see the clutch plates that alone will show you if the transmission truly needs to be replaced or if you can put money to other things.
He said in the video he can double his money from selling his house plus he will have no more bills so it's kinda cool. imagine how many places you would go!
7.3 motors will always be sluggish due to the valve on the turbo being slightly closed to help with warm ups. Being in the southern parts just unplug the connector on the turbo. Being a van it should be easy if you take the cover off between the seats
JB Hunt is governed to 65mph. Swift is governed to 62 1/2. USA Truck is governed to 65. The only 18 wheelers goin faster than 65 are O/O ( owner operators ). If I remember right, CFI ( XPO Logistics ) are governed to 70 mph, they are the exception. I say this so matter of factly, is because I drove em for 6 years. Majority of my career i spent at USA Truck, along with CFI ( XPO ). But anywho, great vid as always.
As someone who works on an ambulance for a living, don't use the reds, you'll have to remove them actually along with anything that says emergency or ambulance. It can be a felony to have those(impersonating an emergency response vehicle). as far as modding it into a living space, CLEAN EVERYTHING! so nasty. Also, it comes with a pretty beefy inverter, which will suit your living needs perfectly. Can't wait to see what it looks like all finished up.
Dude, as a truck driver, for what you’re trying to do with it, an Alison swap is 100% gonna be a solid choice. I’ve driven a handful of semi’s with AT’s and they fucking get. Up. They get kinda sluggish at higher speeds but who cares? They are the absolute best for getting around town or non-highway areas where you’re stopping and going. My professional opinion is: 👍.
as a trucker and a JB hunt driver. we are limited to 65 miles and hour on the ECU with adaptive breaking that will slow us us to 65 if in gear (Georgia overdrive is the only way to get above 65)
you should've gotten a retired "activities" short bus with a cummins 5.7 throw the death pin fix on it and you got a SOLID base for a camper, no weak roofs, easier to do mechanical work on, and alot more responsive. the reason to get the retired activities short bus' is because they tend to have less wear and tear, are highway capable, and have storage for the instruments/equipment students would have for their trips.
As an EMT imma let you know ambulances get the shit ran out of them everyday, especially by the bigger places that can turn 25+ runs everyday. My personal suggestion would be to look at a BigBox ambulance normally they are international 4400 series and those are normally less ran hard because they’re for critical people. This being said they do have air brakes but you open up to a lot more room and better electrical systems. If you put a toilet in a vehicle that has air brakes then you can register it as an RV and you don’t have to have a CDL
Most company owned trucks are governed at 65, some of us get 70. But also when you're fighting the mountains you have to be careful, uphill or downhill.
Had a situation with a floating title here in Florida...turned out you can fill out an affidavit from the seller stating that it was a failed prior sale, and attach the affidavit to the title and DMV will issue a new title to the buyer. Might want to check into it in whatever states you deal with because it can be a huge hassle savings. my mechanic shop was flipping out because they had already signed over the title to a car and then the buyer backed out and they have no way to contact them. They were told they would have to go ahead and retitle the car to themselves again and reregister it. She was totally freaking out over the time delays and cost. I made a quick call to a contact at DMV and found that we didn't need to go through any of that. She was so thankful I got a free oil change and tire rotation LOL!
That thing on the back of the first truck, in the rear bumper is a lift, used for heavier patients. This was probably a “bariatric” truck. My old medic at work used to have one.
Ambulance will have stronger alternator good for charging house batteries, it will also have an ac charger on board already, and the box is rather big so its a pretty good package. 22:31 he's looking in the drawers and things. I would be wonder how much power the inverter does and if it works.
Got my first shift as a career firefighter tomorrow so this is a fitting video for the night, also thinking about all the things that bus has seen, I can't imagine living in that 🤮
Can't wait to see the build on this. Hopefully this will produce some more frequent uploads. Dan you should check out Humble Road on UA-cam. That guys builds are very well planned out. Plus, he shares my affinity for extruded aluminum. I highly recommend that as a strong, lightweight building material for these tires of builds.
If you want to keep the lights on it but still keep it "legal", you can replace the light heads with amber ones. They look like whelen 900 series. Like everyone else has said though we abuse tf out of our rigs, so don't be surprised when problems start popping up lol
Once you strip all the excess crap out of that thing, the performance will be so much better and there will be room for a bathroom and more storage. Nice score!
Big brain play: you should go on Vinwiki and tell some car stories! That dude in blue has been on and that channel is super awesome! You would be a great addition to the car stories!
I work for an ambulance service in Nevada, we have 5 of those chevys and I can tell you that they are always having transmission issues. The other 35 units are fords
I had a customer that was doing this exact build. He contacted us to build him a roof rack for solar panels, now you know who to contact if you need one :)
Dan, coming from a trucker, not all the Mega Carrier trucks can run 70+. Sadly 99% of those trucks J.B. Hunt Swift Schneider etc, they're limited to 62-66mph
The hazard light "Thank you" is being used all over Europe, UK and Russia by everyday commuters. Also flashing your high beans twice to someone who wants to turn into your lane means that you'll let them do that.
I would definitely suggest putting in an Alison transmission there’s one in may dad’s 01 Sierra with the 8.1 gasser and it’s never had problems even with pulling a 40’ camper.

A HAMBULANCE*
It's a Dually alright lmao
I mean it is a dually
sir do you know your driving a fall code ambulance dan yes

Its ok dont worry, Dan is baby weight with those baby arms
Dan doesn’t weigh very much. He’ll be fine
Next they should buy school bus, fuck it dud
As a former EMT some of the equipment in the ambulance you could probably sell to volunteer fire department or rescue squad. The back boards, the cot, I thought I seen a stair chair in it. most of that stuff can be sold and re used. or ebay even.
Please keep the decals on it and just put an H in front of ambulance so itll be the Hambulance
get this man a medal
Hello? Fbi? Yes I found the man you’re looking for
Hi ,This is exactly what he said at 27:27 part!
YES
sniperboy4life I will deal with this immediately
Having worked for a private ambulance company for sometime, all of this is hilarious. Also, don't buy an ambulance, we all abuse the absolute shit out of them. . .
Yes we do!
can confirm, we do
Private ambulances especially get abused...
I feel like that's true for any vehicle that people work in
My company leases their ambulances so can confirm x100 😂
Its so cool that you and Gavin collaborated, yall are the realest on youtube
Bro when I seen it I got so happy😂
Gavin is excellent people. They're all amazing, actually.
Do It With Dan I love you man🥺❤️
@@DOITWITHDAN hey dad can you put a big bug catcher blower on the ambulance
Gavin is in itsjusta6?
"We could go through red lights so fast" 😂😂😂
That cursed the whole thing
Damn looks like it's got a Carson commander siren, those alone are worth a couple hundred bucks lol. I love this thing !
Cheaaaaaaa
Literally the first thing I thought was wtf Dan. Also are you and cleeter in competition to who gets the weirdest vehicle
I'm surprised ol cleeter and Dan have collabed yet. Seems like they would get along
But cleetus just got a fire and rescue hover craft sight unseen from Wisconsin sorry dan but i think cleeter gets weirdest vehicle still
The cot, monitor, stair chair, backboards could be donated to a volunteer company. Give everything in the box a really good cleaning and make sure to vacuum out the air filter in the back. A lot of that stuff gets overlooked and should be taken care of before turning it into a living place.

plus the als bag, defibrillator, nebulizer equipment, stair chair, backboards, oxygen tanks, all types of goodies they left in there
for real, i'm surprised they sold it with it fully stocked like that. Usually those are all sold off prior. It's all worth a pretty penny.
DAN: "EVERYTHING STILL WORKS"
TRANS: hold my beer
Also Ham should definitely start a UA-cam called Ham'sTravels
Yes
Or Hambulance, cringy but right on the spot!!!!
@@lucasbestel1690 It unfortunately works so well lol
Giant Ham Couldn’t agree more lol
Turn it into a food truck "Ham's Sandwiches"

Did anyone elses parents say it's a bad omen to play around in a wheelchair because you'd end up in one? Does that apply to an ambulance? Lmfao
bad omens is a pretty good band though
SAVAGE welp Ig that’s true. I’m not a permanent wheelchair user but I have to use it sometimes due to severe joint pain 😂

2009 is the LMM Durmax 6.6 engine. But it doesn't really matter what you Allison you get, maybe a Ten speed if Allison sells it.
Allisons are 6/7 speed depending on the model.

I think the vent issue with the AC may be a vacuum line. I know the Crown VICs had the same issue. It should be a pretty easy and cheap fix.
