Kendrick is a very courageous guy. Often, the curse of the alcoholic is not the alcohol, its the people all around them that pick up and put down a drink without a problem-
@@FRElHEIT exactly. Getting drunk is often glorified by people, when it really just makes you feel good for a few moments until it becomes a terrible experience.
Good way to quit realize that the 2 or so hours of enjoyment isn't worth the 24 hour wasted day the next day when you are sick to your stomach and your brain is fried from withdrawal or poisoning. Hard to get it through your own head when enough times are enough though, power of booze
no, its the alcohol. Its addictive, messes with the reward systems in your brain, destroys your liver as well as the rest of your organs and encourages cognitive decline.
People saying Lamar should have won a Grammy, don't realize how the Grammies work. Grammy awards are for cheesy mainstream music or are a popularity contest. Lamar's music is way too specific, serious, and not radio friendly enough to win a Grammy.
This banger came out when I was in 9th grade. I had no clue at the time it would have such a huge impact on rap in general. I love listening and studying how Kenny writes his verses and hooks, its just so to the point and impactful. Like every word is delivered with precision. What a skill to possess as a rapper. This is definitely a dream collaboration for me if I ever gain any sort of traction. But even if I never do, I feel blessed just to listen to this mans music. What an icon

+Felix Hernandez that's so interesting cause I feel the same way. I can't explain what it is about this song but it makes me feel a certain way. I've been trying to find other songs with a similar vibe and have been unsuccessful.
+Doug Staup Move on. Where you were at when this song came out is irrelevant. You're going to die one day and this song will have never mattered to your life or anything else.
This is probably atleast one of the best kendricks songs. Bro, headphones, 75% sound, close your eyes or look at the video, its a whole another feeling. Like you become- Free. You feel like something else. While the Chorus mostly tho. But the whole song is CRAZY And each part has a meaning. The starting like, Chorus or whatever, circulating over drink and not being able to stop. Then the family history with drink and the things that made you become an alcoholic. Then Kendricks story with it, then the Bigger chorus about the guy telling him to drink more is as far as ive got it abt peer influence of a man that parties and has a "Pool full of Liquor". Hes telling Kendrick zo drink more. Then Kendricks conciousness telling him he cant take no more, that if he does, He'l become history. And more of Kendricks story. Thats as far as ive undrestood it, and the writing is Realy good. A bit poetic too. Like, its not ur usual gangsta rapper talking about killing and sex(not telling those types of songs are bad but less deep, they have less personal meaning.) Anyway, ba-bye. This songs perfect💯
@Actually, Movies in the greater context of the album it's very obviously a criticism; it's treated as a remedy to kendrick's shock after being jumped and his life threatened, and it turns out completely ineffective as shown in kendrick's extremely conscious and alienated tone in the lyrics
@Actually, Movies “some people wanna fit in with the popular, that was my problem” that's an obvious criticism of youth's alcohol abuse when it comes to social interaction, like I said... pay more attention to the lyrics
@Actually, Movies bro its obviously bad. He is talking about it in a bad way. “some people wanna fit in with the popular that was my problem” “if I take another down imma drown in some poison im losing my limit” (or atleast what I think is what he says in that specific verse)
It's a shame the single version is shortened. The final verse after this is so powerful and really helps convey the meaning of the song for all the people who don't actually understand what Kendrick is saying here.
Back in 2013 I was 11 years old and didn’t understand English good enough to even nearly understand the lyrics and even the general topic of this song. I always thought it was some sort of easy-going party song. I’m 19 now and now fully understand that it is a song about addiction, hope, love and life itself. Amazing. Kendrick Lamar is an incredible musician and lyricist.
I’m two years sober now, this song means something different now that I’m in a different place in my life but it still hits. When I was younger the chorus hit more, now I’m older the verses hit more. Crazy how time flies, wonder where I’ll be in two more years.
I remember when my boys and I were learning how to shoot videos… we heard Swimming pools and lost our fuckin minds… we got so fuckin lucky growin through the 90s going on to the generation of Kendrick onwards… we are the luckiest fuckers ever… and we are from the fucking UK of all places! Thank you lord!
Ironic how this songs message is about Kendrick's demons pushing him to drink.
Yet this song is constantly played at parties.

Kendrick is a very courageous guy. Often, the curse of the alcoholic is not the alcohol, its the people all around them that pick up and put down a drink without a problem-
Because I feel shit after drinking thats why I can't become an alcoholic.
I love the effects at first but after a while I get sick.
Jason Downs if the Grammies were a popular contest, Beyonce would have won this year instead of Beck.
So?

This is probably atleast one of the best kendricks songs. Bro, headphones, 75% sound, close your eyes or look at the video, its a whole another feeling. Like you become- Free.
You feel like something else. While the Chorus mostly tho. But the whole song is CRAZY
And each part has a meaning.

Really sad how this got turned into a drinking song, and so painfully ironic
@Actually, Movies in the greater context of the album it's very obviously a criticism; it's treated as a remedy to kendrick's shock after being jumped and his life threatened, and it turns out completely ineffective as shown in kendrick's extremely conscious and alienated tone in the lyrics
@Actually, Movies it is 100% a clear criticism of the abuse of alcohol lmfao, bro do y'all even listen to the lyrics? Smh
