I wouldn't shed any tears if someone made a list of all the empty homes being stockpiled by private equity groups and gave that list to the homeless...
@cookiebear1330 Same. Thousands of empty houses, in NY especially, and 99% of the incidents the last few months have involved were occupied and actively used houses of common citizens. How about we squat in gov officials property who refuse to help and likely caused the homeless issue in the first place or trillion dollar Corperation owned property is where I would be at for this as well.
@@joshbull623 RIGHT‼️ I'm sure most of them have properties they aren't staying in for months at a time, be it their vacation homes or their primary homes while they are on vacation ‼️😂 I'm 100% with you, screw all of these officials‼️
In the state I live in the person must occupy the property for 15 years and pay the property taxes for at least 5 years in a row in full and by the due date.

Home owners with empty homes need to rent them out to "home sitters", a person they pay a wage to for the service of being a temporary resident. My daughter kind of does this a couple of times a year when she travels away. She has a friend who lives in the same town who stays the night in my daughters house and in return my daughter does the same when her friend goes away. There are also security cameras facing out towards all of the doors and windows which then alert my daughter, then the friend to the intruders which can be dealt with immediately. I'm quite surprised employment agencies haven't picked up on these kind of things yet. People are always travelling, waiting for the sale of a deceased loved ones home or their own home, hospital stays etc... Simply...If people don't want squatters, pay someone to stay there. Thieves are opportunists and if you leave your home unguarded they will try to take it!
Don't leave your house empty. Hire someone to stay there while your gone like a babysitter is now a housesitter. That way squatters can't take over your home which will cost you thousands of dollars and alot of stress. 😢

They didn't describe the definitions in this story, but it says that the budget change keeps the 30 day rule, but defines a squatter as someone enters a property without permission and occupies the space without title, right or consent. THEN it says that a squatter is not a tenant. I think that is a good change and covers everyone who deserves to be covered.

Before I even watch this video I am going to comment, and Mr.LBoyd might remember this being from NY originally, the definition of the word 'tenant' was not unclear, it's on leases, r.e.a.l. leases.
On the attorney, courts and attorneys are wild in NYC. We had a lawyer from NYC come to work with us in TX, and during a break, the judge came out to talk to the attorneys and make some suggestions. When he walked away, the NYC lawyer said, "I'm not used to this, I'm used to shouting and cursing and throwing things." Our atty asked why the judges allow that, and he said, "I'm talking about the judges!"
Rent too damn high and squatters trying to take over, and this isn't right. Something needs to make happen. We, the tenants, rule our homes and our apartments in NYC and everywhere else. Facts
Why do we have laws like trespassing, breaking and entering, and damaging to private property if the law is not going to inforce the laws. This is the result of having laws made 50 or so years ago for that time. And now in 2024 those laws are obsolete and need to be change as time changes.
I feel like eventually were just going to have a "rash" of "incidents" where potential "unwanted individuals" are found without a pulse under questionable circumstances by home owners.
Lol call the law on squatters? Oh no, not even, just have a couple of shovels in backyard, get inside that house that belongs to YOU! And put them to work, those inside of YOUR house, and have them start digging , no one will ever know
Can you rent a car i the US and just keep it? Call the cops on the company when they try to get it back? You can clearly take from other witha bs contract, so why not free cars?
soon more and more ppl start to look for help from underworld who make the squatters disappear, then it will be chaos sins once things start to go out of hand from law enforcement it eventually leads to chaos and anarchy like the walking dead universe just without the zombies, walking dead without the Z's
It'd be easier to just change squatting laws to, say, 30 years - as opposed to 30 days (literally, just change one word) - in comparison to changing the definition of what a tenant is, no? Seems extra and quite ignorant, imo
Your wrong. You can not change words definitions. Then guilty people change the meaning to innocent. Punish evil swatters do not own the property they have no rights less their is a contract.
😮 why dont squatters go and squatt in the homes of the politicians, law makers ect responsible for these laws????

I'd agree with squatting a lot more if they were taking over abandoned neighborhoods Amazon bought 2 years ago

Shouldn't every one of these situations be considered Grand theft in the court of law

I thought the 4th amendment "no one can seize your property without a court order or warrant" thing would void "squatting."

Why can’t the homeowner squat in their home when the original squatters leave?
This is not being done by accident
WHY did it take this long for government to start doing anything about squatters?
Glad I don't own anything in NYC.

When YOU have to PAY a squatter to LEAVE that is no EXTORTION and BLACKMAIL!!!!
If you're tenant with a legal lease agreement, you can't use the 30-day law..

What these people should do is turn off water power and electricity if any squater they won't want to stay in the house with nothing to shower with
