When you said that the remake looks the way people who played the original remember it in their heads, that was spot on. I just happened to replay the old one during the pandemic, and I was surprised at how.... PS1 it looked versus how I remembered it. Then the remake came out and it matched those memories perfectly. I was an incredibly lucky kid when my big brother got his hands on Legend of Mana around 2002! Though it sadly was a pirated game from Russia 😅 I fell in love with this game immediately and when I was about 20 I bought a real legimate game disc! I actually cried happy tears when the HD remaster was announced. This game is my childhood, my happy and safe place 💕
A friend of mine let me borrow this in school...and wow. I was always so confused as I played but damn I loved this game. Always a different experience and random quests. What a masterpiece.
There's a lot more to the combat system - lots of combo moves that you only learn through doing them. You have to basically fool around with the different moves and even combine them to unlock new ones. And they're all weapon dependent.
There’s also more than just quick attack and heavy attack, different movements and skills in combination with those buttons do ‘plunge attacks’, there’s a jump attack, a thrust attack, and an uppercut. Some of the skill tree is more intuitive and less fooling around too, for example crouch plus jump combine to do a high jump, after enough time you learn high jump as it’s own skill as well.

Thanks for your review! This game was AMAZING during my PSOne days and still is dear to my heart. As you said the OST is what is best in this game and I still listen to it these days. Been waiting for this. Took me five playthrouhhs to see everything when I was a kid because It’s difficult to complete the quests without a guide since you might get locked out of a particular quest without knowing it. Also the game is easy to cheese, like you can be invincible for a brief moment whenever you use your magic and use that timing to evade the boss’ special attacks. Anyway, great review as always! 🌳

Does the game have the content that was unlocked with certain save files from PS1? I know Chocobo Racing and SaGa Frontier 2 unlocked different map pieces if you had a save file on your memory card
They didn't give you map pieces, just little Easter eggs. You could get a chocobo as your first pet guaranteed instead of a rabite and a stronger version of a boss fight for SF2.

Sadly not, Nintendo ignore us these days 😛
A game where you don't get tutorials on anything from weapon stats, crafting essentials, story progress to the endgame. You might miss out on 1 thing and it changes the whole story without you even realising. Coming in from the past PS1 days having spent hundreds even thousands of hours poured into it, I hate it and love it both at the same time.
I loved it. I don’t need to see everything or get everything 100%, as long as I enjoy the journey 😊
@@SwitchWatch it's fun and frustrating both at the same time! I probably won't be getting the remaster since I'm still playing it on my emulator 🤣🤣
🌳 enjoyed your review, watched another yesterday and it seemed overly pessimistic for map building. Your review seemed a lot more open to how the game plays.
Thanks buddy! 🌳
Did it till the end and I will definitly buy this one.🌳
🌳 hope you have fun with it
Here to see the FIRST review of this game.

@@SwitchWatch Yep ^^
Can't wait to play this again - played as a kid but never finished it! 🌳
Nice! Hope you finish it this time 😃 🌳
🌲 gonna have to import this one!
Yessss! 🌳
this and azure dreams were my two favorite ps1 games
Azure Dreams is top 5 game of all-time for me
Alundra was my favorite for me
Waiting for mine on playAsia
Hope it arrives soon!
Square enix needs to remaster chrono cross, ff tactics, valkyrie profile and vagrant story
You know what, I have a decent feeling about Cross
Chrono Cross would be good, but Chrono Trigger would be better!! Just not like FF7Remake please, keep it simple like Dragon Quest
Can't wait for your Mario golf review.
Someone should tell Nintendo to stop ignoring us 😆 /cries
Can't wate for this, mines on order physical all the way I say, this will become my lunchtime gaming session at work I think 🌳
It’s perfect for lunch break gaming!
I happy that i can finally play in German and i could it show to my friends
