I love the Polishness of a name like Przybysz's Grey, lol. I'm learning Polish and the pronunciation can be fun, haha. If anyone's wondering, you use a short i sound for the letter y (like in "it's") and then it's sorta like, "p-shi-bish" lol, so the full name is "Pshi-bish-es grey" :P That's probably close enough lol. Anyway thanks for swatching these, even though it was a while ago now it's very helpful to see them all and hear your thoughts on them!
I was looking forward to seeing the neutrals! Oohhh...so beautiful, moody colors for sure! That Perylene green is to die for! 😍! Thank you so much for doing this series, Oto, this is my favorite paint brand and it helped so much to see them all painted out. Can’t wait to see what your final review is and your top 10 colors! Stay safe!
Denise of In Liquid Color covers PBr7 briefly in her color spotlight episode on raw and burnt sienna, but I'd love more detail on the topic - it's so, so cool! The referenced ep: ua-cam.com/video/LShMczRNnWc/v-deo.html
This is a subject I've always been curious about and would love to see Dr. Oto present what she can find out about it. There are several pigments (like PV19? I think) that do this and I'd love to understand better what process goes into making the changes.
@@FaerieDust Thanks so much for sharing that video. It is SUPER cool, I wonder what the process entails. Like heat treating, exposing it to some other compound, etc. I'll have to do some digging to see if there's more information on it around the web.
The basics are.. Pigment particle size, pigment to binder ratio, the different temperature(s) to which pigment has been heated (calcined) and for mined mineral pigments the source location either different country or region, even different mines within the same country. Some synthetic pigments are also varied by subtlety altering the composition of the pigment usually by substituting differing metal ions.
@@theoriginalbabycub thanks so much for the overview! I fell down the internet rabbit hole of pigment information, and I learned so much. I'm interested in making my own paints, so I'd love to actually try doing this (in a safe setting and with the appropriate tools of course). ☺️☺️
@@miosznosiadek4920 That's really interesting, thanks for the info! I wonder how that affects color and flow of the paint, would love to see comparison. Have a nice day too!
what would be your choices for a Roman Szmal 14 pan palette? I can't seem to find your top 10 video? :) thank you for doing this series that is helping me in 2022!
Oh, I love how pitch black the neutral tint is in the mass tone! I need to sit down, watch through all the videos again, and make a nice long (loooooong) list of which paints I'll buy when finances permit that kind of fun stuff again. They've got do many fun ones! And you know I'm gett the Przybysz grey, I love the color and also kind of love when names in other languages trip up the rest of us 😂 Sidenote: Ok so Przybysz is, according to Wikipedia, pronounced /ˈpʂɨ.bɨʂ/. Google Translate has a little speaker button that'll read stuff out loud, useful for people who don't "speak" IPA, and it matches the IPA. Basically the rz and sz both give "sh" type sounds, so it's roughly "Pshybys" with short "y" sounds and a soft "p" - kind of like when you say "psh" in the context of "psh, it'll be fine" with a little handwave, inevitably jinxing whatever it was that of course turns out not fine. Anyway! It's kind of like when you're reading Irish and Welsh, the alphabet letters are the same but the way they're used and pronounced is different. Language is cool, yo ✌️
Thanks for all of your enjoyable swatching and insights on these paints. I just used your affiliate link for my 1st purchase @ Jacksons for my 1st roman szmal paints. All of your videos helped me select which colors would best suit me. Have a wonderful day!
I couldn't choose a favourite part of this range if my life depended on it. Each set looks so gorgeous grouped up! Thank you so much for sharing with us, Oto.
Sending these to you was a fantastic marketing decision. I just went through and added my favorites to my Jackson's shopping cart based on these swatches. If I like how the sample kit handles, I'll be purchasing an entire palette's worth. These colors are just gorgeous.
I have absolutely adored this series. The way the paint flows is incredibly relaxing, and there are so many nice colours! I actually tallied up all the ones i'd like to have based on your beautiful swatches (if i had an unlimited budget and just went nuts on a Roman Szmal palette), and ended up with 81 colours, costing me over 300 pounds... Hmm, a girl can dream xD
I've always loved the Cyprus browns.. I've gone through several Aquarius blacks. I do enjoy this brand a lot. Esp. All of the "Aquarius" paints. Great paint for the price.
Mars black and Aquarius black, Przybysz Grey, perylene green, Cyprus burnt umber deep. I like the sepia, love the Van Dyck brown as well, I'm a total sucker for colors that have that kind of granulation/separation into more than one shades. Oh, so many beautiful shades!! I look forward to the next one - how you'll get it down to just 10 I don't know, but it'll be super fun to see which you pick!
Yay! One more video! I've been dreading the end of this series, and yet looking forward to each new segment. Your camera work, lighting, and background music make this the best swatching series I have ever seen. Bravo! One question (and I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered), did you make your own swatching sketchbook? That's something I've been wanting to do for a while.
Thank you so much for this series! I absolutely died when I saw all those swatched out because I very much adore those deep cool browns...and deep blacks...and granulating black. Well, this is by far one of my favourite pages in this series. Time to load up that Jackson's Art cart and wait for the best time to buy.
How are you liking the black watercolors now? I ordered Roman black, Mars black and vine black (I already have Aquarius black at home) and I am so excited to try them out. Not sure if I needed all three but they all had a different look/feel to it so I had to have them all haha.
Thanks, this was a great series with beautiful paints, I hope we see you use these colors sometime :) While I'm all for Roman Szmal paints and I have no doubt there are differences beyond price, I find it interesting that so many reviewers' favorites are homages to Daniel Smith staples, Moonglow, Undersea Green and Imperial Purple (i.e. Przybysz's Gray, Aquarius Green, Mineral Violet). I'm sure RS has some unique colors to his line, I know there are some pigments I haven't seen in other brands--PR214, PO59, PY108, PY109 for example. I'm hoping to get the RS Indian Yellow Hue, PY108 the original Indian Yellow pigment (unless one believes the cow urine story), which I loved when Daniel Smith used it for their Indian Yellow (that's now a 2 pigment mix). And I'd like to get some other RS pans if I can afford a Jackson's haul with all that's happening in the world. Your videos are such a welcome respite of color and joy.
You're so good now with pronouncing "Szmal", I'm proud of you! *^v^* Now, as far as Przybysz's Grey, the closest would be Japanese ピシビシ. Looking at the last part of your swatches I can see I need to get three Cyprus paints and Roman Black. Thank you for the great work and looking forward to checking your favourite colours!
HelloFresh, I love these swatches and brand. At the end you say there is a video with your 10 favourit colors. I cannot find this video. Can you help me? Greets from Holland ❤️🍀
The unpronounceable black reminds me a bit of Daniel Smith’s moonglow, which I bought to do value/tonal studies, but the Aquarius black looks like that would be great for tonal paintings too! Really enjoyed this series, downside is it makes me want to buy more paint! :)
Thank you for swatching all these great colors. I would like to know which ones you would recommend for a limited palette of 8 colous? Yellow, red and blue warm and cool tones and two neutrals?
I love your videos and insights. I have a question that it's been buggering me. I have the Shadow Violet from Roman Szmal. Does is worth it buying the Przbysz’s Grey also?
Great series/videos. I really like your swatch books. Did you make them? What size are they, and how big are the individual squares and swatch circles? Thank you. Cheers, Mark.
Cobalt Violet Deep looks almost like Purpurite Genuine from DS, isn't it? :) I wonder if it would be possible to compare this two in the video? The difference in price is great! Question is, if Cobalt Violet Deep from RS could be a substitute of Purpurite?
Just wondering if I have missed the last episode where you choose your top 10 colours. I have checked regularly and can’t seem to find it. I do hope that you are ok!!
To help you with your pronunciation of Przybysz's grey and Roman Szmal's name a bit; in Polish, letters like "ż", "rz" or "sz" actually sound roughly like english "sh".
Thank you so much for this series! That perylene green is so beautiful! I love that it looks a bit teal. When you were swatching it, the paint looked a bit opaque though. Do you find that this perylene green is less transparent than others you've tried?
This has been a very enjoyable series! I've find several colors i really want to try, esp 'the gray that shall not be named'. You think your pronunciation is bad??- in my head I'm calling it prizzy-bizzy's gray. Can't wait for next week to see how close I've gotten to your picks!
Now, Roman Szmal need to change the name of that Przybysz Grey to 'It is really hard to pronounce Grey', by the way, I think the name of this colour comes from the love triangle between novelist Stanislaw Przybyszewski, his wife Dagny Juel - Przybyszewska and painter Edvard Munch, hence the use of three pigments.

Is there a video explaining how you can get the variety of colors from one pigment? It’s so interesting to see the variations.

I watched the whole series twice now and will likely do so a third time. So useful to be able to compare the colours! Thank you for taking the time!
PBk8 is still in White Night's range, called Voronezhskaya Black
Not every pigment from PBr8 range is made from grape seeds, like in Aquarius range ;) have a good day! :)

As far as i know, pbk8 pigments are made from burned organic substances :) for example grape seeds, willow wood etc :)
