I agree. I loved the fact that this movie did not deal with the fear of sexuality. That record is old and broken. I loved that this was just about two women in love. And it actually ends on a good note!

She is cute. It sounds like she doesnt know to sure about gay women. The fact that she says women never really thought about being gay. Yeah think women knew they were gay they just knew it was outlawed and had to be careful not to get caught. Otherwise they would be sent to an insane asylum or wind up getting placed in jail. It's like gentleman jack and the younger anne scared that someone told her about women swinging from the gallows.
I think it might've been (and still sometimes is to that day) true for some women to have indeed had these feelings for other women but never knew how to categorize them because they'd just never been exposed or told about this sort of love. And it had been downplayed a lot in the past and women often enjoyed "romantic friendships" - while sure some of them were aware of being gay, like Anne Lister, heh.
I took it as her saying that people as in men or heterosexuals, not gay women, at that time didn't think about it. Especially following it up with thinking that women couldnt even enjoy sex. History definitely has evidence of lgbtq couples. I'm sure as smart as she is, shes knows. That's just my take on what I've heard from other interviews with her and Kate. 😊
