      It wasn't the "anus" of the bird...it was the tail, or "Pope's Nose" No need to make it more gross.

    we wnt to Hawaii for Thanksgiving in 1990 and had a lot of fun, rain followed us EVERYWHERE we went (we're talking 23 INCJES/24HOURS at one point. we had a condo-like hotel in Maui and the wind was blowing so hard that it pulled the sliding glass door to our balcony off and it almost went over the side.

    A local Hawaii potluck Thanksgiving! Now 'Turkey anus' is not a common thing on the Thanksgiving menu in Hawaii. I feel like they saved that just for you. lol. But spicy poke with a little bit of that limu (seaweed) is an all-time favorite appetizer for potluck parties... you could call it a Hawaii tradition for all holidays. ;)

    • @JRRiel
      @JRRiel 10 років тому

      Actually my mom them always eat “turkey tail”, which is a nicer way of saying anus! Haha. But we're from Molokai, maybe it's a regional thing. Hehe.

      Turkey tail a tradition in our PI family too. We marinate with shoyu, limes, onion, garlic, beer and a hot Hawaiian pepper. Grill or broil.

    • @grrrltraveler
      @grrrltraveler 10 років тому

      Lori Sailiata That real nice sounds nice! Like huli huli turkey. Okay, realizing our turkey must've come with a butt at some point. Perhaps I was shielded from it. Kinda like the way fish eyes disappeared from the table before I could even notice.

      A lot of processors amputate them. But they don't throw them away. It is sent as "aid" to US Native Reservations, Territories, and the like. Usually frozen in bags. So as my extended family were handed the chicken necks, ham hocks, pigs feet, and beef tongue because the choicer cuts were sold to urban palates, my ex-husband's family was "gifted" cans of corned beef, Spam, Vienna Sausages, and turkey tails so that the more prized tuna and mackerel made their way into the cans or the sushi bar. Soul Food, Pacific Island-style.

    Aloha Ying & Mark,
    Mark, that plate of food was huge. Luckily you do all those push ups and could lift it! Does Ying like turkey? In Australia we call this part of the bird the "Parsons Nose" I almost gagged when you chomped into it! I always throw it away asap. I've never seen Turkey eaten with chopsticks before. Your a legend mate!
    Jim.

    Hi Mark, you're probably the first of a American Thanksgiving meal eating in Hawaii with chopsticks. That looks great Big turkey
    with chopsticks.

  • @MarineWifeUnplugged
    @MarineWifeUnplugged 6 років тому

    It's really funny that you lifted up the plate of food to estimate its weight, because you put so much food away at each meal typically! It's just that often they're all on different plates and in a bunch of little bowls, so you don't get to feel the collective weight! I do love how healthy you typically eat, though, and a LOOOOOT of Americans need to be eating more fruits and veggies and nuts and chilis and walking a lot more. You set a very good example of overall health and it shows in the vitality in your videos. Here it's 2018 but I'm skipping around to videos from different years and noticing changes and details and learning about your family. Very cool.

    dude you should consider visitting iraq!! there is a street in Baghdad called Abu Noas, on the Tigris rivershore,specializes in(Masgouf) braising river fish like carp and other big fish, the secret to the taste of this, is that the fish you chose to eat is alive swimming in pools lol, and then the fatty river fish is just perfect for long braising on low heat, the secret why no other fish can match that is that the firewood gives it the magical flavor! firewood of pomegranate, apricots and Narenj( fruit is a mix of lemon and oranges) trees. you will never taste that elsewhere. here's a link so you see it,
