  • Surf Fishing with LIVE GHOST SHRIMP:
    For those of you that fish in the Area, or anywhere on the west coast, ghost shrimp can be one of the top baits for a variety of fish. From surfperch and striped bass in the surf to giant 100 pound sturgeon in the bay and delta, the possibilities are endless with a fresh ghost shrimp as your bait. Rather than buying ghost shrimp, catching them yourself can be infinitely more rewarding. In this video, I use the ghost shrimp caught in a previous video to catch some quality perch in the surf. Hope you enjoy! Please leave a comment below if you have any questions or have any requests for future videos. Check out the link to the magic string and other gear used to make this video down below!

    They are so tender that the surf surge pulls them right off the hook without thread.

    Hard to keep them from tearing off the hook, they’re so soft and fragile.

    I've caught sturgeon on a "sand" shrimp and night crawler combo. One was 8' long. Try a hi-lo set up splitting the shrimp in half but tie the head on at least one hook. I've had good luck for redtail perch here in Washington and in Oregon

      Thanks for the tips! I would love to hook up on a monster sturgeon this year!

      If you ever get the chance, come on up to the Columbia River and try your luck. I've seen sturgeon so big you wouldn't believe, especially when the shad are running. It's like hooking a locomotive

      I would love to do that! And from a kayak would be even better! I will add it to my list of fishing destinations! haha

    A 7384 Gamagatsu hook works best for ghost shrimp In my opinion light wire offset circle IF you can still find them. I've got me a surplus of them here in So.Cal... I've actually caught White Sea Bass from the surf using ghost shrimp In Ventura county as well.

      Thanks for the tip. Would love to catch some seabags from shore but we don't have them in numbers like you guys do down south. Might have to take a road trip down south to give it a shot!

      Yeah I don't think they live in the surf. I was saying I might go target them in the bay.

    Great vid! Thanks! I was wondering if you ever tried the Magic Thread on the Gulp sand worms? Seems like it would work great. If i don't dry out my camo Gulps (PK Yi style ) they fall apart after just a couple bites, due to them sliding down the barbs on the bait holder shank. I would try rigging them with the eye of the hook sunk into worm and wrapping worm w/ thread just above eye of the hook. But,,,, Would the Magic Thread stay on a sand worm?

    Hey, awesome video. I'm brand new to surf fishing and have a few questions: Can you just put a piece of the sand shrimp on the hook or do you have to rig up the whole thing? Do you want to cast it out as far as you can or does it matter? What other types of fish are fairly common to catch in the surf other than perch? Thanks!

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  5 років тому

      Yes, you can definitely catch fish on a piece of the shrimp. The cast distance just depends on the beach and the day. I would recommend trying different distances to find out where the fish are feeding. If you are in the Bay Area, you can also catch leopard sharks, striped bass, and rays in the surf.

      @@DieHardFishing - Thanks! I'll be fishing off the WA coast. What in the world do you do if you hook into something crazy like a shark or ray? Don't want to lose a finger lol.

    • @DieHardFishing
      @DieHardFishing  5 років тому

      lol, you can release them safely. You just have to avoid the teeth and stinger. If you are worried you can get a hook remover on amazon to keep your hands farther away from the danger zone.

      Walmart usually carries it, along with most sporting goods store with decent fishing sections. For sure bass pro and Cabelas will have it, try looking in the catfish or trout/salmon areas. Or if all else fails, Amazon and eBay

    Why would you spend all that time individually hunting ghost shrimp when you could just dip your bait net into the sand and get 50 to 100 sand crabs in 2 seconds? Seems that in previous videos, those sand crabs are ridiculous when in comes to live bait.
