DashyXD&Dad, for you and all those in your audience that may not know, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, and was the first performance during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the "ShowMaskGoOn". Diana's cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, demonstrates Diana Ankudinova has developed into a true contralto voice type. For those that don't know female voice types, a contralto is the lowest kind of female voice, and a true contralto voice type is very, very rare.
During the beginning of this first performance you can hear Diana’s low contralto sound, and a common question is asked about Diana's vocal range because the vocal range is one of the primary defining factors used in determining a female singer's voice type. In 2017, at 13, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. Diana has said she is not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and this lack kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana, along with her vocal teacher decided to work extensively on developing her higher vocal range.
In September 2021, during this performance, at age 18, (now 19), her vocal range was again measured and the work she and her voice teacher put in is paying off. Her range was again measured during this performance and her functional range now goes from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, giving Diana almost a 3-octave range. But, it's not simply how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice, and in her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. Diana's ability to create and use this resonance further defines Diana as a "dramatic contralto" and a dramatic contralto is the deepest, darkest, and most powerful contralto and is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
The question most people have is, how does Diana do it? How is it possible for such a young female singer to achieve such a low, rich, deep, and profound sound? Without the ability to actually scope her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to see what is happening within her vocal tract, the general conciseness is simply attributing Diana's ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than most female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than other female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity. When combined, this unique vocal anatomy gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce these low, deep, rich, and full sounds, but without actually scoping Diana's vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
To really appreciate the vocal progression of Diana's contralto sound, listen to "Rechenka", a Russian folk song she sings in her native Russian for a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens called "You Are Super!" during their 2018 Season when Diana was 14 years old. You can hear the beginning of Diana's deep and rich lower range and a mature sound for her age. Next, listen to her cover of Chris Izaak's, "Wicked Game" the following year in 2019 when she was 15 years old during the 2019 Season of "You Are Super!". Diana Ankudinova a year later is just about at a true contralto vocal range but not quite there yet. Diana Ankudinova won both the 2018 and 2019 seasons of You Are Super.
Diana also has mastered a singing technique known as polyphonic singing which is extraordinary for someone so young. A singer that has mastered polyphonic singing can create one, and sometimes two, different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing.
It is this polyphonic ability that some people mistakenly believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation or is using some kind of pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background off stage, or Diana is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. No artificial manipulation of Diana's voice is happening at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. The other voices and music you are hearing are all vocal backing tracks used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing Can't Help Falling In Love.
Female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until somewhere around 24 to 28 years of age while some do reach it sooner, and others, later. Diana Ankudinova's vocals have already developed well ahead of schedule in reaching vocal maturity, and some vocal professionals believe she has already reached her vocal maturity, but the jury is still out. Diana Ankudinova during this competition was the first to perform with her cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" during the "TheShowMaskGoOn!" competition. During Diana's performance, the judge on the top row, the first to stand up is the Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan. He was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this competition. Yusif Eyvazov is married to the world-famous Russian soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana's performance, she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of her competitors is Julia Parshuta who is a well-known contemporary Russian singer and is the blond woman standing in the center row dressed in red. She looks totally shocked at the end of Diana's performance, puts both hands on top of her head, and looks totally bewildered and in total disbelief. Julia Parshuta, in addition to the other judges now know, at some point, she and the other contestants will have to compete against Diana Ankudinova, who everyone now recognizes as a generational talent. Finally, Diana won this competition.

The only thing I'd add is that ANYBODY listening to Diana for the first time and being impressed needs to look into the past and her tragic early childhood of abuse, neglect and abandonment, on the street with a broken collarbone at age 2/3 and unable to verbally communicate. Her loving adopted family were told that music might be the key to Diana's emerging back into the world. The rest as we know, is history.

Diana was abused and eventually abandoned by her birth parents. She was found with a broken collarbone and various speech deficits that were likely a result of the abuse. She was placed in an orphanage. One of the staff, at the urging of her own daughter, adopted her.
As part of Diana’s recovery, her therapists suggested singing lessons. Her teachers quickly discovered that she had an extraordinary voice, and she began singing in shows and children’s festivals at every opportunity. Her big coming out took place when she was 14, and performed on Ты супер (“You’re Super”), a Russian show similar to The Voice, but restricted to orphans and children with disabilities. She won the show that year, and then again the following year when they held a series just for previous winners. Those performances have been viewed tens of millions of times, for good reason: She has a powerful, haunting voice, and her stage presence is riveting. When performing, she appears completely fearless.
Great singers usually reach maturity in their late 30’s, so she is just at the beginning. If she is allowed to nurture her gift, I see no limit to her potential.
She is often compared with Dimash Kudaibergen, the reigning king of Olympian vocals, but I see two important differences. The first is technical: Diana’s voice has overtones that make her sound as though she is harmonizing with herself. It is something that can be taught, but she came by it naturally. Second, and more important, is that as great as Dimash is, watching him feels a bit like watching the world’s best stunt-man do amazing tricks. With Diana, there are no tricks-she just reaches into you and takes your soul.
There are three kinds of covers: 1) the artist tries to sound like the original; 2) the artist stays faithful to the original but tries to make it their own; 3) the artist takes the original idea and does something completely new with it. Diana never does the first two.

At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far Eastern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on UA-cam. A year ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of UA-cam 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. I don’t think anyone here has actually given you her backstory, so here you go: Diana’s biological mother had several pregnancies, of which Diana was the only one who survived. From the moment she was born, that woman hated her. Abused her, tried to drown her, and it reached the point where she abandoned 3-year-old Diana at a bus stop to die in the middle of Russian winter with a broken collarbone. Fortunately the universe had bigger plans for her. She was found and it was agreed that she should not be placed with her biological relatives, so off to the orphanage she went. One of the women who worked there developed a special connection with the girl and ultimately adopted her. Diana has had a loving family ever since. But around age 5, she was still having trouble speaking and was traumatized from her experiences. She was enrolled into singing lessons to help her, where it was discovered that she had perfect pitch and a great ear for music. The rest, as they say, is history
Also, i forgot to give some suggestions for more stuff from her. In no particular order:
- Derniere Danse (French) - there are several versions of this song but i personally suggest the one from 2020 on her official channel, when she was 17. She also sang it for the contest “You are super!” at 14 years old
- Wicked Game (English) - check out this cover that she sang for the same contest at 15. You can hear a strong presence of her many voices
- Personal Jesus (English) - the last song she sang for the same contest as “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (ShowMaskGoOn). She was 18, the youngest participant in this contest, which she ultimately won. If you ask me, this song is a great way to go out with a bang

Diana, also called goosebumps queen, sang the cover of the cover of the song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMaskGoOn). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song.

The man who jumps up is the world famous opera singer Yusif Eyvazov. He is also the husband of the world famous opera singer Anna Netrebko. He is the guest of honor and awards 9 points. Each episode has a new guest of honor.
The competitors have to assess each other and have praised Diana to the skies. They said of their performance: 'Diana has no competition on the show - she amazes with her talent - it's impossible to tear yourself away from her - you want to listen endlessly, they're in tears and they're even afraid to blink' .

Thanks for the reaction to Diana (DEE-anna AnkooDEENuhvah - emphasis on the capitals) - I can see Anthony Rodriguez has given a comprehensive explanation of "ShowMaskGoOn" - it was an offshoot of the Russian version of "The Masked Singer", hence the name and all the participants, apart from Diana and Alisa Mon (lady in purple), had already been seen on "The Masked Singer".
In this performance, Diana used Tommee Profitt's "Dark Arrangement" of "Can't Help Falling in Love" which strips it down to the bare essentials and also changes it from a major to a minor key - this changes the whole perception of the song itself. A couple of the other participants, Julia Parshuta (in red) and Mark Tishman (last chap to speak) mentioned the VR technology used, this wasn't seen to its full extent in Diana's performance - this is what it looked like whilst Diana sings ""Маленький принц" (The Little Prince) - ua-cam.com/video/4SWENYcIiV8/v-deo.html

Diana, the unique singer and songwriter from Russia was born in May, 31. 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She is 1,65m/ 5,41ft tall.

Diana didn't have a happy start in life.The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived. She did not love her child, cruelly abused him and tried to drown him.
The 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... from Irina Ponik, a massagetherapist. Taking a young child into the family was not easy for Irina. Her son was already 20 years old, daughter Nastya 17 years. Now start all over again? Yes!!! Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared but she all sing songs from cartoons. The doctor recommended singing lessons and so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And it all started at the age of 5...
During 2008 to 2012 Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions.
Her mother, Irina Ponik, turned her whole life inside out and started all over with a new motherhood and many new professions - seamstress, manager, vblogger… admirable.
Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances, competitions, looking for sponsors is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She took extra sewing courses too. Since then, she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget.
Irina accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. It is admirable how she promotes her daughter's career, teaching her how to fly but makes sure that she is down to earth Remains.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. Her confidence grew, her voice continued to develop ... until one day she was asked to compete in more distant competitions so that other children could have a chance to win.
In 2012, Irina's family moved to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana lost her fear that the woman who bore her would kidnap her.

The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to UA-cam and soon Diana had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists to start their studies and promote their creativity. Diana won a scholarship and Igor Krutoy (Russian music titan, billionaire, juror and sponsor) gave her a small apartment (37m²/ 398.26 ft²) in Moscow. There she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy. (She died of Covid-19 in October 2020). Now Diana is taught by the great Alexandra Pismennaya, who was a student of Prof. Donskoy.
The break of voice made Diana’s voice even darker and deeper. She has mastered this time very professionally and has worked hard to bring back the lost high notes and has expanded her vocal range, currently from C3 - E6. Her genres are folk-rock, folk-pop, jazz, soul, blues, soldier songs and Diana-stile… tradition meets modernity.
She loves to sing in French, but also sings in English, German, Arabic and Spanish... but only phonetically so far. She plays the piano and ukulele. She composes and creates her own songs.
But Diana is not only a great singer and storyteller. She lives her songs and touches our hearts and souls. But also she looks beautiful and she is a humble, smart and hardworking young woman. She also gives charity concerts. She loves her family and her fans. We are Diana's 'friends' and support her. Separate thing from my other comment, a request for an artist that you don’t seem to have reacted to yet: Dimash Kudaibergen, a 28-year-old singer from Kazakhstan. Specifically his performance of the French song “SOS d’un terrien en detresse” which translates to “SOS of an earthling in distress”, from which you can get a general idea of what it’s about. He sang this for the first time in the immensely popular Chinese singing contest “The Singer” in 2017 when he was 23. After that performance he became an overnight sensation in China and gained millions of fans. Today he has become a superstar in Asia and Eastern Europe but he is still practically unknown here in the USA. His vocal abilities are truly something else and it would be great if you could check him out. Tons of people consider him among one of the best singers in the world alongside Diana, Angelina, and others
