Genesis Coupe Common problems

- Hey guys in this video I am explaining the most coming issues that the Genesis coupe has. Most of the problems are easily fixed with aftermarket parts. If your looking into jumping into a genesis coupe hopefully this helps you out.
I have never had these problems none of them you must of got one made on a Friday.
lmao
Oh not even the clicking from the timing
Lmao 😂💀
Interesting. Here in Germany we say "Montagsauto" = a car made on a monday.
NICK nice video I subbed and liked , just because you respond to almost everyone lol , anyways I'd like your opinion, someone is selling me the track 3.8 2012 for 4500 with. 125k miles ..but I have a 2006 Eclipse Gt 3.8 with 231k miles who I beat like There's no tomorrow NO LIE ,ill be doing 110 of highway daily lol serious and it doesn't give me any issues ever apart from regular maintenance like oil and and tire balance so im really spoiled, would you say the genesis is as reliable as the Mitsubishi motor ?
I don't really get the lockout too much but literally everything you said has happened to my Genny, listen to this man!!👆👌
Genny squad 👌
Yeah the timing chain ticking threw me off owned a few sports cars with a v6 never once heard it till i bought my 2010 3.8 GT genesis 😂 literally lost so much sleep over it then the timing went and everything was replaced still makes this sound so figured it had to be normal.
@@tonyb3524 yes like my ticking in the video is normal but once the engine gets alittle older you will start to hear it. My stage 2 clutch tho might overpower the sound honestly
How the transmission holding up ?
@@anthonytorres5861 it's still good I'm surprised I havent broken anything yet honestly. All last weekend I was doing back to back digs at around 2500-4000rpm clutch dumps. The car really needs better tires and that diff kit from ATQ
I have a 2011 Genesis Coupe with 132k miles on it. It has been the most trouble-free car that I have ever owned. Earlier in the year I did replace the down pipe because the flex joint finally broke. The same thing happened on my Stealth at around the same mileage. I bought a Veloster N this summer and kept my Gen Coupe because I like it so much. I intend to run my coupe until it blows-up.
Sounds like you got one of the good ones for sure. Usually they last as long as you keep up on the maintenance and moderate how much you beat on it of course.
I have a 2011 also. It’s fantastic, with over 172K. My only issues have been taillight leak and occasionally the anti theft keeps it from starting. There’s a reset button under the hood and then you are g2g.
If you are getting vibrations in your steering wheel it is probably 1 of 3 things
1. You hit a chug hole, and your wheel is Fubared
2. Your tires are cupped from worn out suspension parts/ not rotating tires
3. While braking.... your rotors are warped.
An alignment can only fix the alignment of the wheel assembly. It DOES NOT solve your CURRENT vibration problems. Most decent alignment techs will check your suspension parts before resetting an alignment on your vehicle. A decent tire tech will spin your tires on a balancer to show you if you need a new wheel or just tires. Genesis has low pro tires like most coups. So the tires don’t absorb as much energy before warping the wheel when hitting an obstacle. Great video, very informative on the main issues with this car, thank you!
I can relate to the ticking lol. My genny has 72k miles 2.0t. Pretty good overall , won’t waste that much gas if driven Normal and make sure to check the oil 👍🏾
no turbo issues? i’m scared to get a 2.0T
@@tannersych654 they are good, don’t worry about it. Last owner had it for 2 years and never had a problem. If you are looking for a cheap and good racing car try getting a Miata or a Honda Civic. 👍🏾
@@bribiescavortex3325 i have a 10th gen civic right now! my mom is taking it off of my hands though and i’m looking for a rwd
@@bribiescavortex3325 good to know though thank you
The new oils now have Sp Gf6 classification that helps the timing chain issues and carbon issues.
I have a 2014 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and I have never had any of the problems you stated, no water leaks, no transmission rattle or grind, no tyre vibration but there is excessive camber, yes the injectors for the GDI do have a ticking sound because of the high operating pressure. Also, I drive my car hard, and it is a great car.
That's good tho. A bunch of the genesis guys in the facebook groups were just talking about the water leaks. I'm not sure why it's so common it's always brought up atleast once a month from new genesis owners.
I have the 2014 3.8 Ultimate as well with 67k miles. My tail lights were changed so there is water leakage through the gasket I just covered it with flex tape & the car sits in the garage anyway. Mine is not a daily driver (drive it once a week) so I don't have the engine noises or rattles that others report. My only issue is the touch screen is hard to function but that's just a minor inconvenience.
When he said “welcome to the pool party” I felt that. I clicked this video to see if it was common for my genesis to leak water smh
Between the taillights, rear quarter windows, sunroof drains water likes to seep in wherever possible
The most of the ticking is coming from the high pressure fuel pump!
This may just be your car; I personally have had my 3.8 r spec for over a year, and still never had any of these problems. Thx for the video though, I’ll be looking out for these problems!
Some people don't have the issues until later on but most of the genesis guys run into them down the road. But I'm glad you haven't had them so far that's good
Wait until 3 years
@Paweł Miketa hopefully you dont get any of them theres a few that haven't had any issues at all but most end up with atleast 1 or 2 of the water leaks
@Paweł Miketa how much did you pay for your car?
@Paweł Miketa I'm guessing alot lol
I live in CA so luckily I don’t have to deal with the water/condensation issues. But I do notice after washing my car that sometimes I get water around the outsides of my headlights. I have to blow it out with air.
Is one of the headlight vent tubes clogged or fallen off. I had a spider nest in 2 of my vent tubes. I wanna say there is 4 vents per light.
yep 5:02 i have the exact same grinding issue going from 5th to 6th, especially if I'm driving over 100 KM/H. The only way I've found it to work without the grind is to literally pause in between the shift. So stop midway through the shift in the neutral zone, and then shift into 6th once the synchros catch up. Works every time now. 2013 Gen coupe, 3.8 GT
Yep or slow shift it once I get my new stage 2 clutch past break in if it still does it I'm pushing for a new trans am at 74k miles now but I have a extended warranty until 88k
Have you guys had any problem with lockout / grinding when double clutching too or just granny shifting?
granny shifting lmao you shift grannies bro? @@motomotorized
The steering wheel shake means you need to replace the wheel hubs / bearings (in these cars). Some guy replaced his and it completely fixed the shake.
Water getting into cars from sunroofs is 100% always going to happen. Either the drain lines are clogged or the lines fall off the sunroof rack due to the zip ties breaking. Always make sure to use silicone spray or Honda's shin-etsu grease to help keep all weather stripping on cars soft and water resistant. As for the tail lights those are a manufacturer defect as you said. The 3.8l engines from a mechanics stand point suck. Too many flaws. Same with the 2.0 but if you add forged aftermarket internals and on every oil change use motorkote. You will save the timing chain tensioner from breaking. As for the transmission it's always hit or miss with the clutch packs but changing your trans fluid every 30 to 50k miles helps especially if your trying to play fast and furious with a stock trans.
100%? I've had five Hondas with sunroofs and not a single one leaked. One of them ('98 Accord) creaked a bit while cornering, but no leaks.
That ticking/loose sound is so true. I literally took my car in to get checked because of it and it just sounds like that. Also I just replaced my clutch kit twice in 3 years smh....... Still like the car though
I bought my 2015 gen 3.8 new. some notable problems I've had are water in the trunk, gear shift rattle, and my A/C compressor went out at like 55K miles. oh and my LSD had to be replaced due to a weird noise it was making when making turns slowly.
Yea the water leaks suck so far crossing my fingers never had the AC compressor fail or LSD yet
So would the automatic avoid majority of these problems? Besides the a/c going out
New also....200k on mine.....no issues yet lucky i guess
@@dabussy6001 ac went out on my at 58k
That ticking noise isn't your timing chain it's your Gdi injectiors, they all do that. Timing chain rattle doesn't sound like that
Literally this.
just found a crazy deal, 70k mileage, 2016, 3.8, and completely stock, no water leaking reports, amazing. Getting it this weekend for 13.5k.
Nice man yea that's now a bad deal at all.
I've been looking for a genesis, Thanks for this video
There not that bad I'm glad I got mine 👌
Thank you for the informative warning video. I had a 3.8 for a long term business rental. In the southeast. Water leaks and trans issues like you. My personal car is a 380Z. Had a 350Z prior to that. Never had a single problem with the Z. Korean cars are not well put together like the Japanese Honda, Toyota, and Nissan cars are.
Very true overall tho I wouldnt get rid of my car I like it too much. I like the body the most i just wish there was more tuning and aftermarket support for the cars
Oddly enough, I’m having the mechanical issues he mentioned in my 2020 veloster n. A couple guys in our circle also have these drivetrain problems and it’s been a borderline war with the dealers lol.
Anyways, I 1000x regret trading my geni coupe for this lame duck pos. If you haven’t pulled the trigger yet, I encourage you to at least drive one. It’s fun, and like I said, my experience was nowhere near the train wreck of some other cars out there.
At least you’re looking at a Z though, I’m probably going to trade the geloster for the incoming brz (I miss fr sooo much, fwd is for the birds lol)
@@bobbyaustralia8509 yes honestly I like the new Ns but even the dealer told me the new genesis sedans leak water so it's like geez lol I want the new gen coupe to come out
@@RspecNick I say this all the time
Thank you for this vid bro! I’ve been interested in getting the genesis coupe but I couldn’t find any videos about the common problems it brings. It seemed like it’s such a perfect car with no flaws but nobody ever talks about the flaws it has. I’m still getting one though and I know what to expect haha!
Any problems with the car as it grows in miles?
Nice man and so far nothing bad has happened with mine minus the small common issues. I'm currently at 76k
@@RspecNick are the leaks fixable like the sunroof
@@drwowzers6051 yea usually it's just clogged drain lines for the sunroof. The rear quarter windows you can just reseal. The taillights are fr the oem taillight gasket it shrinks alittle over time and sometimes leaks water into the trunk or causes your tails to condensate pretty bad
Yeah it sounds like timing chain slap on the 3.8. Easy fix, nice ride.
I bought a 3.8 two weeks ago and a couple days ago my drive shaft snapped off
Did you get the recall done for the drive shaft bolts ?
There’s a recall on this
@@Anthonymartinez-hw8pd get the after market diff bolts from 3.8 performance, and change out your diff mount and bushings. I had to do the same thing, those OEM bolts for the diff mount are garbage and will snap or come undone under consistent torque. Yea bro sorry it happened, your def not alone fam.
Lockout comes from challenging the reverse setting.... a normal car with reverse opposite of 5th, you can use the side ad a guide, thats a bad habit you want to gain the muscle memory straight into 2nd.
If you slide straight into 2nd, boom, don't miss a beat we're banging gears and showing everyone what these cars can do. But if you make the car think you're messing with that reverse setting it puts you on timeout
Very good info for sure
Just to add my two cents after 5 years of ownership:
Water - definitely an issue as mentioned here, haven't had it go to the floors yet but the trunk in a little pool sometimes.
Transmission - 6spd manual, I'm having a hard time getting into reverse gear when cold (32° and less) and 5th gear is crunching like crazy.
Suspension/alignment - LOWER CONTROL ARMS. God damn, today I've installed a new control arm for the 4th time since I bought the vehicle. Now I'm not sure if it's because of the shitty roads here in Alberta or an excessive amount of power slides but man, that's almost once a year!! Luckily they're easy to change.
Overall, aside from the problems listed here I've found the car to be extremely reliable and that even after a stage 2 tune. Control arms have been the only somewhat major issues in 5 years. Still love mine!
Same I've only had the trunk water and taillights fog up from it. And some common 6speed issues all in all the car has been great to me. Looking to get the isr adjustable arm kit.
I completely agree. Lower control arms, water, and also windows are shit when it comes to linking or power window problems
Let's see, where do I start with my 2015 3.8 R-Spec lol. The power steering and lsd is very noisy on these cars, but that can't be fixed as far as I know. I had rev hang; which sometimes caused my car to stall out, or it would rev between 1000-2500 rpms while idling. They fixed the rev hang by repairing the clutch switch, so fingers crossed it doesn't come back. I've had transmission issues twice in the last 5 years, but they've never offered to replace it completely, they just replace the clutch and flywheel assembly.
The only thing you've listed that I haven't had issues with is the leaking, but I have the SuperLUX V2 tails, and I don't have a sunroof. All in all, this is a fun and sexy car, but it has it's moments (lots of them) lol. Somehow the trusty 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 has 130k miles and only been in the shop for recalls. Sadly I cannot say the same for my Genny, as it has 38k miles, and the stealership service department is it's second home, but I still love her. Sad to think; I almost paid $45k for a 5.0 Stang, but I'm glad I fell in love with the Gen and paid less than $30k. I've had 2 Mustangs in the past, and both were major problems anyways, not to mention dangerous cars 😉😉🤣.
Mine was ticking since I bought it new in 2013. The dealer told me it was the lifter. She just hit 57,000 miles. No issues with leaks. I do have a sunroof.
i have none of these problems, my 3.8 has 0 leaks and no engine problems
Yea mine only had the taillight issue. I'm basing most of this video off of hundreds of other gen coupes that run into similar issues. I see one of those issues pop up atleast once a week in the genesis groups
Pretty sure that ticking noise is just the injectors. I own a 3.8 bk2 as well. It's a GDI engine so the injectors are much noisier because the fuel pressure is way higher. It's totally normal
Yes mine is gdi tick but some of the 3.8s get the timing chain tick from the cams
i bought a genny 2016 3.8 base that was stock, literally no issues and ive done wheels (and I mean 9.5" in the front and 10.5" in the rears+ 1) tires, coil-overs, short shifter, CAI, and even new speakers and a radio. no issues
Do you plan on getting the Alphaspeed tune.
I bought a 2014 Genesis Coupe 2.0T Automatic in 2017. Currently at ~87,000 miles. Only 2 owners with me being the second. The ONLY Issues so far have been:
- The Driver side window motor burnt out on me twice; regulator only once. All under normal use.
- Steering wheel wobbling at 70-80MPH
- The starter just imploded on itself out of nowhere.
Other than that, it's been more reliable than I could ask for.
Agree for sure they are pretty solid if your treat them right and don't bounce off the rev limiter.
This might be my first fun car I get in an automatic. I've seen so much about the bad manual transmissions but so much good about the auto. Good video though.
Yea the autos arent to bad worse thing about them is the shift solenoids start going out and cant handle high power. But if you just left the car stock or did full bolt ons the car would be fine.
@@RspecNick ty for the info
@@typicaltilly2535 No problem. Honestly as much hate as autos get they have come a long way. And ontop of that there is very very few who can outshift a computer.
The auto is a ton of fun for it not being a manual. Has a manual mode plus the car will have you going a 100 plus by accident and you won’t even feel like your going that fast for the weight it has. And if you don’t care so much about the longevity of your engine it’s really easy to break the traction and keep a drift and shit even with it being auto
Only issue I have right now is when going about 70 I can hear some rattling in the interior on the passenger side.
I actually just started getting that in the last like 2000 miles it sounds almost as if its behind the glove box
Thanks for the video. My cousin has a 2010 3.8 Track 6MT since 7k miles. He had the grind from 4-5 and they replaced his transmission under a TSB.
I brought that up to Hyundai and both Hyundai and Hyundai of America declined it for me.
@@RspecNick DAMN 😮
@@robogoat23 yea I know. Still works good tho minus that issue currently at 99,800miles. Worse case scenario I find a 2016 trans for cheap and swap it out
I'm looking at a 137k miles 2010 3.8 for about 3800$. It's gonna be my first potential car and I'm so nervous cuz of the mileage and facing reliability issues as a first time car 😅😅😅
It honestly depends on how the car was treated and serviced. If that's 137k miles of beat miles I would steer clear of that honestly. If it was serviced good I'd get it. Just keep in mind 137k miles on a rwd car that was more then likely beat on alot something will break during you owning it.
These G4KF motors are only good for about 200,000kms and the G6DA or G6DK are good for just above 250,000kms I would also steer clear i like these cars but I'll admit that their 4 cylinder is not Toyota reliable when pushed hard. However you can always swap out the motor for cheap.
I love you bro the 3.8 timing chain tick has had me worried so bad. Changed the oil from 10w40 to 10w30 mobile 1 fsyn and the noise got a little bit louder might go back to the 40 but changed because my oil was running a bit hotter with the 40.
Mine slowly got worse once I hit 102k miles apparently it's a normal thing with the 3.8s. I actually blew the car up (my fault). I'm on the fence now between OEM short block or an actual built motor.
He said pool party 😂😂😂😂 but I found it & fell in love & I’m getting it
Congrats man 👌
@@RspecNick I got it bro !!!! I love it
@@blAckevans good man just keep up on maintenance and you should be good 👌
The constant ticking in the 3.8 is because of direct injection fueling.
your third problem is literally just a lack of maintenance, you'll never get steering wheel wobble if you mount wheels properly and have your allignment checked and adjusted like you should with any car
My car does the 5th-6th grind almost every shift, I get a grind into 2nd sometimes if I’m above 6k rpm but I don’t get the lockout which is weird... man I hate this transmission lol
It's not terrible but it's not the best either
Damn. Mine seems like it grinds on 5th when I do a big pull too, I thought my clutch or transmission was going out, not unless it is lol
Ok black rtv sealant cut the nozzle small angle apply around leaking area works great on any sunroof etc
And on the taillights to reseal them. My sunroof is fine but I know alot of them have draining issues with the drain tubes.
@@RspecNick what is the best way to unclog the drain tube? Air compressor?
@@rayv.2892 yes air compressor
Bought one last week and watching these videos makes me want to sell mine before it turns to shit
Honestly they aren't terrible. I've had mine now for alittle over 4 years only issue I ran into was blowing it up because I bounced off the rev limiter doing a long burn out.
Ticking is the injectors mine does this too especially on cold start ups
Is it like a big problem cuz I bought a 3.8 2011 and it’s Been ticking on cold start ups
I have the real Genesis 2010 2.0T. The tail lights do have a condensation issue but not so much anymore. No sunroof.
Probably just the housing leaking water.
I.WANT.THIS.CAR.
The black looks Soo cleannnn
Thanks and yea it's not bad when its clean
Mine has a lot of dead sensors and it only has 113k miles, I have the 3.8 and the oxygen sensor needs replaced already and so does the oil switch that is only assessable thru removing the oil tank.
What year is yours? The oxygen sensors arent too bad that's a hit or miss thing with alot of cars I use to have a old toyota ran 87 all the time and when I ran 93 in it would burn out bank 1 upstream o2 sensors all the time. The oil pressure sensor I've seen a couple other higher mileage 3.8s have issues with them.
1:07 noooo not the hand on the glass i can't 😭😭
😂
I got a chevy volt the water gets in the rear passenger door and fills up every rain. Examining the issue, there is drain hole on the bottom, seems it gets clogged up although pure rain would not have any debris. I suspect dirt got in when the window seal got old. I just removed the rubber gasket around the drain and no more issue.
Bro that tick has me up the wall but thank you for explaining cus i thought it was the lifters for the longest time
Bought mine off my brother so I’ve been around it a lot and I had the leak in the trunk from the taillights but for me I thought it was bc he has wrecked it a couple time with deers and guard rails. I got it fixed and it’s good not but now you got me all worried lol. Hopefully I don’t deal with many problems
Honestly mine was not that bad at all. Mine is currently down tho for a blown motor (my fault donuts). Hoping my block can be saved and then I'll just run forged internals and probably boost.
@@RspecNick o man I hope it’s saveable, I couldn’t imagine the scare that is. I’m trying my best do dabble in modding I got the isr cat back exhaust too but rn I’m trying to get her ark downpipe and testpipe I’m just hoping everything works out for it.
@@goofyop4365 it's definitely a fun platform but yea I'm hoping the same cause a used motor prices for the BK2 are wild 6k for a motor with over 100k miles
I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe 2.0 T. I've had it for seven years. My only issues which to me are not issues, are tail light condensation and the front wheel hubs going after about the seven year mark. Otherwise it's made well. Made much better than my 2003 Nissan maxima.
That's not bad then original motor still? The taillights are a normal issue for hyundai apparently I was talking to alot of the Hyundai tech's about it and they told me even the new genesis sedans have the issue as well with bad taillight seals. And yes my genesis has been better then alot of my previous cars from subarus to hondas to nissans alot of people just cant get over the fact that hyundai/Kia have been stepping there game up lately.

Mine doesnt rattle but I have different bushings and a trans mount. Try changing the trans mount to the megan racing one and see if it stops it if not go with some shifter bushings from ATQ or message Tomi Varga on the genesis coupe group's of Facebook
Its a problem, I got one from amazon never
had problem again
those led gauges are dope af
Thanks man they are the Prosport evolution gauges.
You mentioned the problem with the transmission on manuals but what about any problems on the automatics?
I know in the older bk1s they use to have jerking issues or have issues related to the (sport mode) option where you would jump it in sport or slap shift and it would be jerky and on the actual indicator on the dash it would read D still. Usually just topping off the fluid or an actual fluid change helped alot. Now with the BK2 you get some nasty rev hang and similar issues as the bk1 with the jerky shifting issue. Really a Tune would clean alot of those issues up with rev hang and with the shift points
Never had any lockout or any grind your tranny is going my dude
My car was like that at 50k miles and is still the same at 101k. It's a common gen coupe issue.
Aside from the timing chains and tensioners who else has a slight whine noise when at low speed and a steady rpm mostly at 40mphish and 4th gear.
I do but it's from my oil cooler. Is it your window seals?
@@RspecNick no most def not the window seals.i cant track down the noise.does it when im at a steady speed or off the gass just coasting.sound like its from the trans then it sound like from the rear end then up by the engine its almost impossible to know where its from since it only does it when driving.thought somone else may have this "issue"
@@clickslidebang1871 honestly the only thing I can think of that would whine like that would be like weather stripping, wheel bearing but maybe there could be something going on internally too it's hard to know without really hearing the noise

Don't know where you live of what type driving you do but honestly, I haven't had any problems or trouble of any kind with mine. No problem man figured throw some of that info out there.
I got vibration BAD going 75 plus even after an alignment and I’m afraid it’s a driveshaft
Are the wheels balanced?
You should be able to feel it....but its not hard to fix just get a new one or off ebay... easy repair
2016 R-spec 3.8 with 98k miles, no issues at all, just take care of the car
I do take care of it I dumped right around 15k into it just in aftermarket parts alone. But I did finally blow it up at 102k sliding it and starving the bottom end. So next time I'll plan to have a baffled oil pan before I attempt to push it that hard.
I've found that everyone I know who's ran these hard has had major issues. My take, drive it easy and only get it when you need to GET IT.
Remember folks, performance cars needs performance parts, and often.
Another is the Differentials...
Another: The steering wheel plastic fades over time.
I was going to mention the door grips like to peel over time but I kept it out
What exhaust do you have?? I went through the trunk water issue, the dealer took care of that. I have a rattling/wind noise I hear when doing highway speeds. Sounds like it comes from the side mirror but the dealer replaced that.. still does it.
Will be checking the back floor for water when it rains now.

Is it garage kept ? I'm surprised you didn't get the infamous water leak atleast
It just hit 200k.....so far so good....but the only thing is im convinced it left korea without a tire alignment....it loves tires and adjustments
I had 2013 2.0 lived in Michigan and all same problems all within 6 months of buying it new.. my first winter how the door windows lower quarter in when you first open door.. in winter window freezes in up position and when you go to shut the door the window snaps into place loud thud from hitting the roof panel..

I have what I think is the same problem, and honestly the best "fix" I have for it is trying harder to rev match haha. Makes me think in my case it really is the clutch but oh well. Got warranty too so I'm not too concerned :)
I had that problem @ 32k miles. Went to dealer and they replaced the whole transmission. I got 87k miles now and never had another problem with grinding from 5 to 6
And the messed up welds on the firewall that makes the car have a rattling sound at low rpm
Or the fender welds that make your car sound like a old wooden ship
I just had my '16 3.8 R-Spec spin a rod bearing and cylinder 2 is knocking this literally happened last night kinda salty 😂
Not gonna lie id be alittle salty too depending how it happened.

Is there anything I need to know to be beware of during winter? I dropped a stage 2 clutch kit and it still does the 5th to 6th grind.
Did you swap fluids yet to the redline fluid and are you running the megan trans mount with the stiffer shifter assembly bushings. That helped mine alot
is it still a good purchase in 2023? I'm thinking of buying a 2013 manual one for 9k cad...
I would they are decent looking cars
This video was very helpful!! Currently looking at one & I am probably going to the pull the trigger on it. Thanks man😁
No problem at all. Honestly they are not bad cars. I love mine and wouldnt get rid of it. Just keep up on maintenance watch the oil levels and get catch cans for sure I just emptied my catch cans after just about 7,000 miles and measured it and I had a build up of 1/3 cup of oil after 7k miles.
What year is it and how many miles does it have?
2013 and just hit 72k miles
My 2nd gear lock out disappeared on its own 😅 my current issue on my bk2 3.8, is a random Missfire
I toned my down with different fluid, transmission mount and then the better shifter bushings
My 2014 gps was replaced and after a month it started acting weird again. It blips in and out. The hyundai dealership is useless. Any ideas?
That's pretty common it's usually a bad screen for the navigation. Most times it will just freeze tho.
In 2013 I purchased a brand new Hyundai Genesis coupe had the dealership do the window tent put the spoiler on the back the LED fog lights on the front and a 20 year- 200,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper total price out the door was ("$40,000".) automatic 2.0 turbo charged.. they fixed all the water problems that you talked about..But if you're sitting still and you make a hard right by punching it or a hard left it will stall on say a superhighway for about 4 Seconds the car will keep running but will not move..In Florida the speed limit is 70 that means everybody's doing 80 or 90 miles an hour the dealership had it in the shop 5 times they said they could not find anything wrong with it they said no codes come up then we cannot fix anything if a code doesn't pop up has 50,000 on it now.. anybody have any ideas or the same problem why it would stall when you make a hard right or hard left...🤔🤔🤔🤔
Does it do the same thing with traction and stability control off? I've heard of alot of (delay shifts ) fr the autos. But usually a TCU time clears that out.
Any flickering issues with the spec d? One of mine are something when I hit brakes
Nope no issues with mine man

Almost sounds like its in limp mode
The water problem is so stupid complete waste of time Just say make sure to put a cover or tarp over your car which is taking extra good care of your car anyways. All this was so petty and unnecessary I'm looking reasons to buy or not buy the car based on Mechanical, Engine, or Car leaks not rain water. Just a set of ESR SR01s with Achilles tires.

Ive had mine for 2 years and the problems I had so far are: starter went bad, the hood pump that holds the hood up broke the antenna broke up randomly and it smells moldy sometimes oh and the paint chips easy
Thanks for adding that my antenna actually snapped off during a car wash apparently that's common too

That's pretty sad for a car that new to have those kinds of problems. Reminds me of a late 90s early 2000s gm car lol. My 01 grand prix leaked water .
I would say it's terrible but alot of these newer cars are just made cheap. I remember my old 88 chevy caprice it was heavy and slow but it was solid.
@@RspecNick I have a 2017 q50 now. Thought about trading it for a genesis coupe that just popped up. I don't want it if it has those kinds of quality issues. I wanted to get a lower payment/ insurance while getting something that was still fun to drive. Guess I'll keep waiting or just keep my q50.

Maybe motor or trans mount.

Hey nick, I just subscribed and understand if you don’t see this, but if you do I’d really like some help or a clue on 2 problems with my 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8 gt. Its my first car and I honestly have so many memories that I want to keep upgrading it in the near future.
The first problem had for about 3 months is that my steering and floor is shaking and I feel like I’m driving over gravel even though I’m on the highway. I balanced my tires about 2 months ago, as well as a alignment shortly after. I’ve taken my car to 5+ mechanic shops to get it inspected, and even a Hyundai service dealer told me that there is nothing wrong with the car. I’ll try the hub rings but if they don’t work idk what to do...
The second problem is that I feel like the car kicks back every second. Like if a gear is spinning under the car and every gap in the gear creates a kicks that pushes you back. I feel like it might be something in my engine or transmission but all those 5+ mechanics told me there was nothing wrong with the car so i don’t want to risk fixing it in my own and somehow destroy the engine.
I don’t have much experience on car mechanic, but I’d like to learn and keep my car performing normal for days to come.
Try the hubs rings for sure but even my car has a little bit of a vibration around 65mph that's with hub rings, balance and alignment. Another thing to check is tire pressure make sure it's even cause one front tire being lower can cause a pulling type effect.
The kicking part is hard to kind of decipher tho is it manual if so what are the miles has it had a clutch replacement did the person before you beat the clutch. Sort of sounds like a slip in transition. If its auto it could be pressure switch related or low fluid level. Its alot of diagnosing honestly.
Dont worry about the shops I brought my car there just to get a check up even tho I do all my own stuff it's nice for them to give it a good look over for anything I may miss and they heard my clutch chatter from the stage 2 clutch and told me my motor spun a bearing 😑 needless to say I stopped going there.
@@RspecNick Thank you for responding!! I got my grey automatic genesis coupe from a guy in Florida who previously rear ended the car, so I fixed it and brought it to New York for college and had the best time of my life so far. I admit that as anyone in college I did drove it hard but over all fell in love with its curbs and its quick pulls, and haven’t experience any sort of problem for 5 years (with the exception of changing the tires and a couple scratches.
Due to previous life accidents (like literary blowing up 2 laptops due to fiddling too much in the settings) I have always been afraid of getting my hands dirty with the car since most of my knowledge comes from videos and car mechanic simulator, but I would like to learn more and bought a copy of the genesis coupe factory service manual to try and comprehend more how to fix it. Once I become more economically stable I would love to bring it back to Peru and mod it to my hearts content.
But, in the meantime I’d like to keep it as factory similar as possible to conserve the previously damaged car. I want to be one of those dads who own a 70’s corvette but with my genesis coupe instead.
For the bumpy ride problem, unfortunately the roads here in Long Island tend to not be patch up well and the right front sway link snapped after hitting a pot hole to hard and had to pay 400$ in the dealer for a replacement. The vibration problems began soon after. Like I said before, I did my alignment, bought new tires and balance them, bought some new brake discs from autozone, turned out that the new discs where warped from factory so had to get them changed and I would still feel like the whole car shacked when before I didn’t felt nothing. I took out the muffler when I first got it but felt like it was to loud in Manhattan and had cops watching my every move. So I put a remote exhaust switch but it made the vibrations even worst due to some noise leaking out through the closed short exhaust and had it removed. Also, a friend mechanic who lend me his workshop told me that my front left wheel axle was creating a clicking noise due to a the ring inside being snapped. I don’t know if that could be the problem or not but it’s 500$ the pair and due to the pandemic I have to save for a couple months to fix it. I’ll definitely order the hub rings, any recommended brand? Was thinking that it could be the coil overs at first but after learning more about it, I don’t like to stand my car. I want it looking elegant like a Mercedes but being able to catch up any car.
For the kicking part, I definitely have a feeling that there is something wrong with the engine and transmission, for 7 years I’ve had a fun time with the car so it’s gone places it shouldn’t have. From having sand in the radiator to blasting 100mph on the beach and loosing the bottom plastic cover of the front crossmember due to a big bump in the road. I wouldn’t mind putting money and time to put a turbo kit in it or even engine swap it. But I can’t right now due to the pandemic, so I just want the car to run in a normal well state, it has 48k miles in its 7 years (which is weird because I definitely feel like the mileage should be near 100k). I’ll check the pressure switch low fluid level. Some friends told me that I should do a tune up but i don’t know how exactly what that consists off, it could probably solve the kicking but I doubt the suspension would be better. I just want to identify the problems and fix them in an economical way for the mean time.
This car has save my life countless of times without getting a single dent (with the exception of letting go of the break and accidentally bopping a white van. After pulling to the side the guy was high as a kit with 2 bags next to him so he just let me go lol) and have so many memories including the spoiler my grandfather got me before passing away. My family keeps telling me just to sell it but if it has put up with me and my crazy stunts for so long than it deserves to be saved. I could just sell it and buy an 2016 r-spec 3.8 in the future but the GT version has a more comfortable stock suspension than all the other models, in comfort it almost felt like driving a new Mercedes before it felt being jerked back while off-roading on a Jeep Wrangler with city wheels in the middle of the best roads I could find. I definitely plan on owning a Lamborghini in the future, but I will always modify my genesis coupe whenever I get the chance. Who knows, maybe someone in the future creates hovering tires like the delorean from back to the future 2 that only works in old cars, I would buy them in the spot lol. But in the meantime I’d like to be proud of owning my small slick genesis coupe, I would have picked a manual, but I had a near death experience when I first learned to drive and the car shot off in the middle of an intersection with a truck just about to ram into my left with the car coming in clutch last second. At first, an 8 speed automatic transmission can be a solid pain, but once I got the hang of sport and paddle shift mode, my car became a quick speed demon when taking off from second gear and has very kick pulls when the car is already moving, I’d like to reduce that 5.5sec 0-60 to 4 or 3 but I’ll have time in the future to make it my favorite daily drivable comfortable method of transportation.
@@MAGE0327 I would honestly have the other steering parts checked to just to be sure they arent bent at all. As for the hub rings I have plastic ones and they work fine for me I got mine from ESR wheels. I understand what you mean tho by wanting to keep the car I'd focus on getting it back in shape new plugs would probably help it a bit it's fairly easy to do as well. Do you ever run a fuel cleaner when you fill up on gas theh can help a bit as well. If you have been hard on it the CV joints could be going bad especially in that amount of time. Another culprit that can cause some issues with handling is wheel bearings but you would usually hear that problem as it gets worse like a humming sound while your moving. Honestly all I can really say about learning about the car is actually just diving in and trying it. Now I'm not saying RIP the transmission out or mess with the internals of the motor cause that's alittle bit more advanced but the more simple portions like new air filter, cabin air filter, oil change, spark plugs,Rear differential oil change and other small odds and ends. Cars although now a days are alot of electronic components such as sensors on sensors. All engines use a vacuum system and it doesnt take much to throw cars off with vacuum leaks.
@@RspecNick Ok, ordered the hub rings and they should be arriving tomorrow. I’m bringing it to a friends workshop tomorrow and will check the spark plugs, air filter and rear differential oil. I had an oil change early this year. I’ve never run a fuel cleaner, to be honest I didn’t knew radiator cooling fluid existed until a couple years ago, but my car has always had a full tank of cooling fluid since. I understand that the best way to learn from it is to dive in but I don’t have a workshop or the tools to fix them in my own, and since all of the mechanics kept telling me nothing was wrong I just gave up and have been using my car once a week to not risk it but keep the engine running from time to time as well. Thank you for the help! I’ll keep you posted
@@MAGE0327 sounds good man just let me know if I can help I will. Just dont give up on it just takes some time to learn just like anything else.
