Ray love your videos. Couple of tips. When driving thru an area with a lot of bugs, take a damp sponge and put straight dish washing liquid on it and coat the front of your truck or class A. After trip just hose the bugs off. 2nd tip, to light camp fires I carry a bag of match lite charcoal. 1 or 2 briquets and its plenty to start a fire.
Great tips! I do the same thing with my egg cartons as well (my fridge in my Class B is only 3 square ft)! Your vids are very informative/useful, keep up the great work...Cheers!
Love to hear that you've been to Nova Scotia. I was born and raised there. I now live in Las Vegas. So hard to find any camping that even comes close to home.
I use Scott tissue single ply as you described. I do see TP when I dump the black tank. Not as bad as when I used those powder treatments; but I do see some paper in the mix when I dump the tank.
Ray, thank you so very much for sharing your RV Tips & Experiences. I truly believe that you have saved many of us NEWBIES some costly and messy mistakes. Please keep your Tips & Experiences coming. Safe Travels :-)
Great trips! We're going to tell our RVtravel.com readers about this. Watch for a spike in your views. Love the tip about the toothpaste for cleaning the toilet stains and the tip about the remote thermometer. Good luck getting the beagle off your favorite chairs!
Good ideas. Here's a couple. Tip #1, #2: Add a good water treatment system to handle the water BEFORE you get it in your RV pipes. Otherwise, you will wreck them eventually. Eggs, get Snapware Snap 'N Stack 2 Layer Food Storage w/ Egg Holder Trays. This also keeps them from getting crushed as heavy items move around in the fridge.
Beagle? Oh, if only I had it so easy. We travel with a playfully mischievous 110-pound Great Pyrenees. Try getting that off furniture when he doesn’t want to move. His typical reaction is to intertwine his legs around the furniture somehow and play dead. He will move if you firmly demand it, but that’s hard to do when you’re laughing at his goofiness so hard.
awesome videos. are you from BC, Canada. I'm interested in fulltiming very soon. How much time do you spend in the US. Do you come back to Canada. there is so much to think about before leaving the stick house to full time.
Thanks! Yes, we are from Vancouver Island. We usually spend just under six months traveling around down south each year then return for the summers back to Vancouver Island. My wife loves boating so we usually stay put in an RV Park near a marina during that time. Cheers Ray
Here is a tip I plan to use when we retire and sell our home.Put a compost toilet in your RV..Toilets are a waste of water..Compost toilets are dry and do NOT SMELL.You can use a solar air hose to draw air outside if you wish ? Now it means that you do not have to pay for as much gas and pack up as often to hook up and go to a black water dump. All this black water tank is a pain in the wallet.Water is needed for dishes and a low flow 2 1/2 gallon shower. My wife and I have tested the solar shower.wetting down and and turning off to soap up will cost you only 2.5 gallons per person and that is a long hot shower so try solar and save on gas.Do one for dishes too. NOW,run a hose from your gey water tank to the top of your black water for an overflow. If you can't dump the grey on the park ground then it buys you time till you drive near a farm field or dirt road to open the black and grey ( WHICH WILL BOTH BE GREY NOW ). The savings come from Propane savings,Gas or diesel running to dump the Black, savings of many gallons daily from the toilet and shower, savings of time moving the RV and running into town, the compost can be put in the ground as hum-manure or in the forest in a hole or in a garbage bag to the dump as a last and easy resort.
LOOK on some rv videos were they type " COMPOST TOILET RV ) You can do a wood box one for now with a sealed toilet seat for a few dollars = $100.00 OR look at the compost toilets in " TINY HOMES ON WHEELS " DEE is a girl with a $100.00 compost toilet no smell she say's.
Your dumping strategy is actually ILLEGAL and makes the RV community look terribly irresponsible. Also, adding grey water to black does not magically make the nasty bacteria in the poopy water harmless. Stop giving bad advice and start learning to science!
@ Colorme: Agree. -- "NOW, run a hose from your grey water tank to the top of your black water for an overflow....open the black and grey ( WHICH WILL BOTH BE GREY NOW)...." Correction: "they will both be BLACK now..." This mixing-gray-and-black-water suggestion (gray water + black water = gray water) reminds me of an old "Two Ronnies" joke: Apparently scientists found a way to mix axle grease with butter without altering the flavor. It tastes like pure axle grease.
Thanks John, It's called Gibert Ray Campground located in the Tucson Mountain County Park - webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=1327 It's a really nice little campground, close to Saguaro National Park
We are, just bought the RV and our truck arrives in Mar. We then need to get all the bits and pieces together and get organized. Seems like an impossible task right now.
The water regulator is available at quite a few RV parts places, made by Valterra, also on Amazon at - www.amazon.com/Valterra-A01-1117VP-Lead-Free-Adjustable-Regulator/dp/B003YJLAIK
Now who would have thought of tooth paste?? That's the tip of the year. Going to use it on my old toilets at home that are about 15 years old. They wont scrub completely clean anymore.
Great tips! Love the beagle - a friend of mine just started a group on Facebook called Beagleism, where we talk about the greatness of beagles (and dogs in general). ;-)
I really like your videos. I have watches a few of them and have always liked them. Thumbs up and subscribed. However, having lived years on a sailboat, in the plumbing section they can be identical to RV's. Water tanks, filters, 12v pumps, etc.. I would NEVER would have my boat connected to pressured water while at a dock or marina. The flooding risk is to great due to a plumbing leak when away. RV's can suffer much water damage too. Boats have sunk at the dock connecting to water fulltime at the dock, just for the convenience of not using your existing and working tanked watvr system. That is not smart if there is a flood . I fill my tanks when needed and because you can hear the 12vdc pump run when water is flowing, you can hear the pump cycling when there is a plumbing issue. That is known as a "plumbing malfunction alarm". When no one is using water if the 12v pump comes on to pressurized the pipes, one should take notice. Cheers
Good tip, I usually turn the water off when away from the rig. We boondock a lot and use the water pump of course, it is quite noisy though so thinking on replacing it with a better, quieter unit and installing an accumulator. Any recommendations on good quality 12 volt water pumps.
Love Your RV I always used Shurflo. One working and a new one in the box as a spare. Prices have gone up a bit but something like this. SHURflo On-Demand Diaphragm Pump - 1/2in. Ports, 180 GPH, 12 Volt Motor, Model# 2088-343-435 I find being able to hear the pump when it cycles is a good thing. A dripping faucet doesn't go long before the pump goes off. I never had an accumulator and would go through a pump every 3/5 years. Lived on the boat for 18 years. Things that you use daily wear out. What pump do you have now?
Love Your RV It's a bit inexact judging how loud that pump really is with a video. Have you tried comparing the sound of your pump to other peoples RV's you could visit and compare to? How and where the pump is mounted can also effect how the pumping sound is transmitted through and about the coach. Perhaps that could be investigated for reducing how loud you pump is. This should be explored before buying another just for this issue of being loud when it pumps fine. Explore, to be sure a different pump will be quieter before one is purchased.
Live aboard boaters are in to the practice of not flushing toilet paper in to the ocean when not using their holding tank. I don't see why that shouldn't be the same for keeping the extra waste paper and possible issues paper can cause out of the black water tank.

Cool! Thanks for the tips. Cheers!
Or spray on cooking oil like Pam
Or spray on cooking oil like Pam
Be careful using oil if your RV roof is the rubber membrane type, some oils can damage the rubber material.
Great tips .. thanks for the water reg. .got to love that doggie

Love to hear that you've been to Nova Scotia. I was born and raised there. I now live in Las Vegas. So hard to find any camping that even comes close to home.
Yup spent 2 months in the Maritimes a few years back, loved everything about them except for mosquitoes.
I use Scott tissue single ply as you described. I do see TP when I dump the black tank. Not as bad as when I used those powder treatments; but I do see some paper in the mix when I dump the tank.

I agree your friend should have his own chair. Thank you
Thanks! Great tips!

RVtravel Thanks!
Great video!
For the clogged shower you can use CLR to clean it too:)
Is CLR safe for RV plumbing systems? I don't know, but I'm fairly certain that toothpaste is.
Good ideas. Here's a couple.

Thanks, good tips, just added a dual stage filter system a few months ago. Cheers, Ray
No prob. Living in FL we have horrible water so we pre-filter so we have appliances that can last longer than 3 months. :)
again top notch great tips and I like how you take your time even if I heard the tip before I gets ya thinking did I forget something

Ray!your brilliant.thank you for sharing.you give the coolest tips.ive been taking notes. :-)
Tip for getting a beagle to stop hogging the camp furniture: Get a coyote. Seriously, your vids are quite helpful, thanks for sharing your tips!
buy a canvas bed for your dog Pet Edge sells them they are pvc pipe with canvas that set above the ground.
How to stop your Beagle from hogging all the camp furniture? Easy - get him his own chair... :)

BRUCE LEE Very good points, I can see the benefits. Wish they were a little cheaper, it's a fair chunk of money for us to put out and not like it.

Wife and I are retiring this summer and plan to hit the road in the new RV. Have really liked following along with your videos.
Awesome! I guess you're going to have some busy months ahead in 2016 getting all prepped. :)
We are, just bought the RV and our truck arrives in Mar. We then need to get all the bits and pieces together and get organized. Seems like an impossible task right now.
Merry Christmas to you, all the best in the new year.
do you have places to buy all these products you mentioned.
example is water regulator.
The water regulator is available at quite a few RV parts places, made by Valterra, also on Amazon at - www.amazon.com/Valterra-A01-1117VP-Lead-Free-Adjustable-Regulator/dp/B003YJLAIK
ok thank you
I have got a table like people use in hospitals for sitting up in bed and working on the computer or for eating off or whatever.
Neat idea!

Thanks, great little hound dogs. :)
ray, your voice reminds me of mr rogers. lol
won't you be my rv neighbor?

Get your pooch a suspended dog bed with short legs . Easier for him to climb into that a chair and way more comfy than a bed of rocks!
Got it. :) www.loveyourrv.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Pet-cot.jpg

Some good tips. You have to buy your beagle his/her own chair! That's what I did
Cute pup! Needs its own chair and problem solved! LOL
Cute doggie. :-)
Tip #99: Be sure to wash the toothbrush after cleaning the toilet and before brushing your teeth. Just kidding.
Great tips. Thanks!
