Is anyone else massively impressed that Dirty's skating backwards, answering questions, showing techniques and NOT falling over 😂
That was so great! Please do this Q and A again soon. Also, didnt know that about actually watching the Ads.... thanks for mentioning it. Keep inspiring new skaters!
OH thank you! Yeah if you guys just let the ads run ... I get a little bit of compensation :) It really does help. So I appreciate it immensely. I am going live every Tuesday night till we get out of this quarantine!!!
Dirty School of Skate I am a beginner and find your videos extremely helpful, fun and inspiring.... in fact, I literally summon your voice giving words of encouragement while I practice hahah! Have you ever considered filming informal small space practice videos? I have been trying to spend 20-30 min a morning doing scissors and balancing etc.....it would be so great if you lead one to work along with you!
“This allows me to rollerskate and hit people” 😆😆😆
Right?! She’s my Spirit Animal
I like how clearly the techniques are explained, but more than that-your passion! Thank you.
Thank you Dirty! You’re an amazing teacher.
Thank you for doing it on UA-cam. It's good for those of us who want to review your suggestions and answers after we've practiced. Thank you again for another great session, Deborah and Rollielocks! shimmypolkaroo 🤩🤙
My pleasure! Thank you so much for watching.
That rink is OMG 🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍💜💗💜💗
Omg I hate ads but I will 100% start watching them now on your videos!
Dirty Deb you're a treasure! Thank you for promoting a methodical learning method vs. the school of hard knocks (literally). Yes, we're definitely letting those ads run!
Loved this! So much great info and love how you tap into the mental stuff which for me is the greatest barrier. Can’t wait for the next live 😊
Too bad I missed this. I would have asked you to do an axel. ;)
OMG! LOL! I will walk your through one :)
@@Dirtydeborahharry please come live again cause I missed it
Also I just wanted to say that falling is not so bad. I practiced so much I didn’t mind falling because I got over my fears. I just got up and kept going
Love your videos! They are not only very informative, but they always cheer me up and put me in a really good mood 😊 Up until a few weeks ago, I never would have thought that I'd get into rollerskating. And now I got my first rollerskates on Monday and it's so much fun!
I am a lifetime skater, a rink brat . My mom was the beginners class teacher here in Springfield Illinois and you have taken what she taught to a whole new level. Things I do because I do them, you have given me the words to help others get their skate on. I was also a bit of artistic skater but cost did not allow me to further my artistic journey when my instructor left. THANK YOU for your knowledge and love of the sport that will always be my first and forever love.
Oh I am so happy to read this comment!!!! So great that you are teaching :)
Deborah, when I see you skating, in the ring, I have to say that you make me learn through the good that you ride on skates.
It's a show.

:D yay I’m Miranda, and you helped me so much in skating. I love the tips and my backwards skating has got AMAZING! and back scissors. Ty so much!
They have helped me to skate a lot of all your classes that I see through these new technologies.

I'm from Miami, FL and this is my first time seeing this video. I really feel all of you best skaters should do a skate event where you all teach us beginners how to skate. We could pay for tickets for you alls time hopefully inexpensive but the privilege to skate with you all professional skaters could help.
Love this video! Please do another one. Thanks
We will!
I have watched all your videos and I'm skating GREAT because of you.
I'm coming to cali to come see your beautiful rink and skate with you.....thank you for all your help..I can now bounce rock skate bc of you

Sure thing! Have you checked out my playlist for backward skating and jumping?
Sure thing! Have you checked out my playlist for backward skating and jumping?
Yes. I had seen your basic for the forward roller skating and I just got perfect in just one week! I learned how to do the cruise, scissors (backward and forwards) and just trying to learn to the crossovers.. Anyways thank you. You're the best.
Ugh so sad I missed the LIVEEEEEE but glad I get to watch it now 💖 love hearing about your derby journey and nickname lol
Thank you for the tips Debbie
shucks, i missed this my Dirty DH Live..next time next time! big hugs Dirty Deb baby girl, many thanks for you using your time to help us enhance our skating skills ...Thank you Soooo much Debbie baby girl:))) i appreciate you soooo much, big hugs:))) stay up stay high:)))
"Thighs closed for business"! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Love your personality ❤️
aw that was super fun!
Hi. My question is: How you walk/roll in place? When I see others do it, it looks like they are doing crossovers in one spot.
Love your videos 🤗 Thank you from Denmark 🇩🇰🤩
Glad you like them!
Waaah! I missed the live stream!!! But I still enjoyed the video - as always! And still envy you the fabulous rink!
You're the best!
I see this is 4 years old but I'm just finding it now, and it's great! I just started skating, on session 11 now at your rink, and luvin' it! But I'm also the one whose friends have all said I'm nuts for doing it, so, I'm making new friends at the rink!
Next stop, buying my own skates!!! 🤣🧡💚🤣
Great to hear!
This all new to me as for how to asks questions on this site. I guess one needs to subscribe. I posted questions months ago without an reply.
Hey Russell! I do my best to answer as many questions as I can. You can hit me up on IG too @dirtydeborahharry
Hey Dirty, question for ya! I’ve been practicing about an hour daily and I’ve been trying lots of different skills as opposed to practicing one skill until I get it. Should I just focus on one thing at a time? Thanks!
Hi I’m deaf, it says captions are unavailable. A little help please. Thank you.
@Dirty School Of Skate...the captioning is available! Thank you so much! ❤️
Shelli Babick Same but my cc is working. Maybe try again now? 🤷🏻♀️

I'm so glad!
I missed this!? I'd love to see chat that was live during this video but UA-cam doesn't show it .. :(
Damn! I am so sorry. Hopefully next time we will get it done.
@@Dirtydeborahharry Good news! At the office the chat didn't show, but at home the chat does work! Can't wait for the next Q&A :)
What surprises me the most is the laminated floor, which creates a grip preventing tipping
hi your a special lady you have inspire me to skate again from seaham uk
One your lesson one you stated put your weight over the front of your skate. If you got your knee's bent and your chest over your leading foot all I can do is apply the weight over the whole skate. Because I have high arches not flat feet I have a hard time rocking from the inside edge to the outside. I only wished I came from a skating family and started skating before I could walk but that was not in the cards. I am old but not that old to skate. I have seen older people in their 80's skate and turn and spin. That really suck's that I can't really skate forward without no form or control. I'll work on it in my hallway inside for now.
You can do this, even with high arches. You may want to make sure that you are skating on a boot that has a figure skating heel. It will help put your foot in the right place naturally.

Not on this video But i loved your Fame reference..Hilarious
Southern Vermont!
Grew up in Plano, TX, Thunderbird roller rink. Now, 35 years later, just started again, in Santa Cruz, CA, Santa Cruz roller palladium. Rinks are closed now, so skating in a parking lot outside. Any tips on warm up exercises? I feel so unsteady ( I'm kinda old and creaky ) for the 1st half hour. Thanks for explaining things for us! It's very helpful.
I LOVE your voice
You are a wonderful skater!
Hi! I love all of these tiktokers and their roller skating style: could you do a how to for the “cat walk” it looks like they are crossing over but going forward, not turning. Thank you!
Ticktokers... _sighs_
If you don't want to turn you can tighten the trucks on your skates so your wheels don't move together as easily. The other way to not turn is to be more cognizant of your body-weight tilting.
Hi Dirty Debra.. can you please show us how to skate safely outdoors on wet pavement after it rains? I recently got caught out and was terrified of slipping when skating back on wet ground to starting point with skate group. I really want to improve, not be scared and not hold the group up. P.s 🌸a huge thankyou for all your wonderful videos and the time you put into creating them love and hugs from Newcastle NSW Australia 🇦🇺..Di 57yr 💜💜
Can you do a video where you talk about the skates themselves? Like maintenance for example. Can you use a pair of skates outside and then take those same ones to a roller rink, etc etc?
Yes ... I will do more. In the meantime ... Please watch this video. It should help you out a lot. ua-cam.com/video/Squ5txgrFcI/v-deo.html
You had a Q&A sesson over a year ago and I watched a number of times but nothing since. Your many video's are very helpful. I am trying old school rexing but not very good at it. I tried this back in the 70's. I gave up . My timing was all wrong. I worked on my career and life and now retired for the last 40 years. Now I am starting all over in skating but like then I could never go heal to heal. Any video's on beginning rex moves. I can not turn front to back and back front, even though I watch your video's tine after time.
I ...i'm from neer Montréal and i start skating in 1977.
I built a 60 by30 ft. track in the backyard. Used outdoor roller hockey tile for the skating surface. I started with your lesson one and right now I am trying to stand on one foot while rolling. I am ok standing stationary on rugs in the house but out side I'm not stable. It's probably my leg's are out of shape, By skating I am hoping to build up my leg's
Watching from Ireland 🥰
Thanks to you I know how to skate
You go girl
Florida
Thanks Deb - this was awesome.
Figure (ice) skater here on quads at the moment, could you show us a Salchow sometime?
This might be too niche, idk. It's quite difficult compared to ice.
Just got a cheap pair of skates I'm practising in my flat I have not rollerskated since 1987
Big hello from London
If a skater like myself have closed hips that cannot go heel to heel I am having trouble with a basic turning. I blew out both my knees by forcing my feet to go heel to heel. I can only do a 90 degrees not 180.
Thank you for all your videos. I know,,,,,,, practice, practice and more practice. But, do have any suggestions for me on improving my balance? I'm 71 and returning to to skating after about 15 years of skates. Thank You
Hey, you amazing human, you! Thank you for this. You mentioned you were going to talk about 'overthinking' but then I don't believe you ever covered it. Is this something you covered in a different vid? If not, can you speak to it in a future vid or in the comments? You gave me so much joy and play this Covid season.
What is with this " chop-chop-chop" stop? If I am skating forward if I throw my skate ahead and inward I'll just pitch forward. Do you lean back and push against your inward skate?
On forward outside edges you state to shift your weight over the skate that you are edging and lean into the turn. On your video on edges you perform very tight curves. My edges are very wide. Somehow I am not able to cut a tight curve. I am going to try loosing up trucks on the skates and try again. What is your advice on cutting a sharper curve?
I try scissors and I fall or my feet are going to wide Please help bye the way I love your videos you have made me a better skater
Only go out to your hip width and then bring it right back in :)
Watts, California!
I like very much all vídeos.
You are too funny. 🤣🤣🤣
I have always roller-skated backwards better. 🇦🇺 Only wish that dedicated indoor space to skate actually still existed in Australia. Everyone in my life tells me I'm too old to buy roller skates now
What can I do to stop my skates from going out from under me, I’m new and my skates are either flying forward or backwards. I lock my wheels in a v position and still lose it :(
On skating on one skate and lifting the other foot and putting pressure on the skating foot the skate jerk's a bit ( not a nice smooth glide). Is this a leg strength issue or not putting enough weight on the skate (flat, no edges--yet---)?
Just had 1knee replacement and over 50. Been roller skating 20 plus years. Are there any skate advice to get back in the rink?
I am from 🇧🇭
Do yo have any footage of you skating in a crowd basically with other people? I'd like to see how you maneuver using the skills you show in your videos. I've learned so much from them. Thanks!
I'm from Orlando
Is it possible or desirable in any way to cross pull (push in) while skating backwards going in a straight line instead of pushing out? (NZ)
Finally
My boyfriend cannot skate I've got to teach him how to From Scratch and he's 6-ft any tips please
@jill zafreak Thank you :) x
I need advice on what skate to get. Want indoor but have to practice outdoor, as i can only go to rink once a week. Any suggestions? Would one pair work or should i get two pairs?
Please watch my "Buying Roller Skates" video. It will really help you get started on figuring out what kind of skate you should buy.
Ok so I know I'm super late... lol I spome to you about the lower priced skates... I got the $60 skate as a starter... I found that the boot, plate and the trucks are actually a good quality... The wheels are horrible and the bearings suck... I watched your wheels a d parts video..IT WAS SUPER HELPFUL!! I looked at the specs on the skate and the bearings were ABEC 5, and the 83A but they have no grip, don't handle anything well... I felt like a cat on roller skates... I ordered the Sure Grip Motion 78A wheels you described in the video.. I will let you know how it turns out 😊
Also do you know what The Figure Four move is and if so can you do it in a video?
Can't wait to hear how you like your new set up. Figure 4 as in falling or practicing balancing?
@@Dirtydeborahharry practicing balance. Oh I absolutely will keep you posted on the upgrade 😊
@@melaniehaynes8619 You can get balance easily; dash side-to-side in grass. Move on to left-over-right in grass, then left-over-right on concrete.
I haven't skated in years will I get it back again or do I need to practice again charlie
I know this may be strange question, but I skate off the grass and I fall ,I can’t see what I did ,??
Hello. I know this was posted a long time ago, but I'm a new skater but kinda up in years. What suggestions do you have for beginner skaters but have bad knees? 😬
It's my second day skating. I do in front of my house in the street. It's too slow. I feel insecure and thinking i will fall. How can i improve? I heard some people do better in the first day. I see you like flying so smooth, i feel like im an idiot....
I do not know now to ask a question about skating in the now. I have been watching and watching your Q &A time after time. I know this question is not public comment but here it goes. In rolling backward in beginning skating how do I travel backwards on one foot. I skate only 4 hours at a rink that caters to the older skaters two mornings a week and I practice there but I an not getting anywhere fast. I just practice going backwards in my hallway but that is only 8 ft. long. Whats the deal of balancing backwards on one foot. At this time I can not do edges.
