I had heard so many bad things and started to regret some recent DOL orders I had coming in. When they arrived, I was stunned at how nice the jackets were and also how they sounded. I did order some Analog Productions pressings of the same records and figured I could keep the DOLs in my office and the QRPs in my living room. I need to stop freaking out about what people say. Thank you for being honest. I started to question my own ears!

I'm glad you stuck to the one you enjoyed most. Thanks for posting this fun experiment. It looks like I'm still going to be getting AP reissues.

Where are you finding the DOL pressings? It seems the web has some issues locating their products. thanks. Jim ps I ordered the DOL off Amazon for $18.77. The AP is $40 and was mastered by Bernie Grundman.

Did you also see the price for the Mobile fidelity copy of this LP? MY DOL came today and for $18.77 this pressing is first class all the way.

It makes you wonder which pressing is closer to the sound of the original master tapes...which none of us will ever know which is most accurate. Once a mastering engineer makes a "sound" choice we live with it I have conversed with Matt Luthans at Analog Productions Pressings and know he is a great recording engineer so he may have decided that what he cut is closer to the sound of the master tape. Who knows? It is clear that we all liked the warmer presentation of the DOL mastering. As for why they (AP) left off the extra tracks only they will know. Did you level match what you uploaded for us to hear? Was the AP pressing louder than the DOL? If so that could account for the missing tracks if the lead-out space on the LP sides was greater on the AP.

I think you have provided great information for me and that is fantastic that you know people who do these transfers into pressings. I kept the volume set the same because it seemed like they sounded fairly similar in volume. Really appreciate you sharing constructive thoughts and feedback.

If you have Matt Luthans contact info, you should ask him what sounds closer to the OG master tapes. He did the Analogue Productions reel-to-reel Ultra tapes. Those tapes are the closest you will ever get to the OG master tapes and there is a Muddy Waters Folk Singer Ultra tape by the way. Another UA-camr posted his thoughts on the Folk Singer AP Ultra Tape vs the MOFI 1-step and he enjoys the AP Ultra Tape the most. I think most can bet the AP will definitely sound closer to the OG master tapes than the DOL. At the end taste is subjective and there aren't really any winners nor losers. We all get to enjoy music in the manner we choose.

I would choose the cheaper DOL pressings if I was listening over UA-cam everytime! On my stereo though, it's Analog Productions for the win!

I understand how this can happen sometimes. For example my magnepan LRS recordings sound better in my car stereo without the subwoofer because the bass even when played flat in the car is already excessive.

0:51 i hate grey market vinyls,im suprised they are legal to be sold in america, they even pirated beatles record, and i have 3 grey market lps,and im suprsied they sound better in general,i am against DOL or waxtime, especially since they pirate major albums. I'm suprised they are legal to be sold in america,i vastly prefer the official release on vinyl even with the surface noise, ill just get a replacement copy. Again,im saying, it'll benefit the sound, but buying grey market labels are all down to anyone's personal preference, and if you have a cheap turntable like a crosley, than I'd say go right at it,i use an atlp60,and i can hear a difference from 1 gray market album to the next and I have a few official releases of the albums on vinyl in my collection I have about 8 lps,i hope those grey market pressings get outlawed worldwide!

Shitting on cheap Crosleys when all you have is a mediocre, low-effort AT-LP 60 (cheap as well) ? lol. Clearly, you have no clue what you're talking about and I doubt you can make the difference between an audiophile pressing and something etched on wood, based on your gear. And you can't 'outlaw' what is legal : DOLs are perfectly legal where they're sold. There is no 'pirating' invovled in any way. Bootlegs are.

Im a begineer of buying records, which is why I bought the LP 60 and I'm doing it right! heard I can upgrade the cartridge and belt with the 60$ kit from LP Gear and I'll hear a better difference with higher end records, but for me,I can hear a difference when I got my first vinyl record that is from masterworks Broadway records, also a store bought album, and that's a whole other thing, you can hear a slight difference with a higher quality pressing,I heard that from another UA-camr who has a project debut carbon, and I have done a comparison between digital and vinyl one time with another LP, a 45 rpm single I got at HPB and vinyl wins, but that's a whole other thing,so there you have it,and how are DOL re releases legal in us even though discogs banned them?

@@saltynuts8529 ugh. I F******G HATE DOL,AND OTHER GREY MARKET VINYLS! SO SHUT UP! They are made out of CDs and remember how warm vinyl sounds? Those idiots in Europe are better off playing a CD if they don't care about warmth of vinyl records.

@@saltynuts8529 I'm pooping on cheap crosleys and my dog does that. I recently got hold of gets gilberto on acoustic sounds 33 and it sounded open, fuller and prettier, and so warm and rich! Hope that helps.
