Around 1970 I was working at Donaldson's Dept. Store in downtown Minneapolis. Eva was doing an appearance at our store to promote her wigs. The event was to be held on the second floor. When she got off the elevator around 1 PM, I was standing on the opposite side of the store from where the stage had been set up. I heard a rumor that the Donaldson executives were going to steer her away from the crowds by the stage, and take her the long way around. I was standing on the aisle, that I thought the route would take. Sure enough , she was walking right toward our group. She was conversing with the President of the store. When the entourage got about 15 feet away from us, she stopped after learning why she was going the opposite direction from the stage. After she stopped she said, "Oh no darling....I love people!" she promptly did an about face, and walked back toward, and through the middle of the crowd, greeting anyone near her. She was beautiful...the stacked platinum hair, black form fitting sweater, maxi brown mink skirt, and an open full length mink coat. She wasn't that tall, but she was still stunning to look at. R.I.P. Eva.
I had a friend that used to work at the Dallas County Convention Center that met her once. He said she was extremely gracious and friendly. I think she was one of the most beautiful women of our time.
Eva was the beautiful kind Gabor sister. She is still missed in Hollywood by her many friends who adored her. Her sudden death due to a fall was a shock as she was still so vital and beautiful. She was also a very charitable woman in Hollywood and made her own millions.
Both Eva and Merv were very hard workers. They didn't become multimillionaires overnight. Eva's first acting job only paid her $75 a week. Merv's first job was at a San Francisco radio station. It took them years to get to they were at. Let's not forget that Eva also had her own wig business as well. She started her wig business while she was still on Green Acres. She also had a dress line.
The Fourth of July marks the 20th anniversary of her going off to TV Heaven. To me, Eva Gabor is not dead! She is alive today in spirit and she's in a much better place. She will always be my idol. And I'm still keeping her memory alive. She should never be forgotten. WE MISS YOU, EVA DAHLING!
Last October, I visited Eva Gabor's grave (as well as Merv Griffin's and Eddie Albert's graves) at Westwood Memorial Cemetery in West Los Angeles. I made a vow back in 1996 that I was going to visit her grave the next time that I went out to Los Angeles; and I kept that vow. I also attended weekend Mass at the same church as well. Although I didn't go the funeral, I paid tribute to her twenty years later. And every Fourth of July, at five minutes past one o'clock, I pause for 74 seconds of silence; that's one second for each year that she lived on this earth. This is how I commemorate the Fourth of July.
I'm too young to really know the Gabor sisters. But I've been fascinated about them for a while now. The struggles they had in Hungary and how they managed to survive it, the will and determination to succeed in life. I admire them for that. Hard work pays off!
It sure does. It took them a lot of courage for them to come to United States from a then- war torn and Nazi-driven country and to live in a free nation.
Wow, 20 years ago tomorrow! She really was the 'good' Gabor sister. I visited her grave last year and it's sad that her marker is fading and needs repair. For a woman known for wearing furs and diamonds you would think her family would maintain it better(!). Anyway, a great lady and a great feeling of loss even after 20 years. Rest in peace Eva.

I stand corrected. Merv Griffin was out in the Atlantic on his boat when he heard that Eva had died. He regretted not being there during her final hours. At least he went to the funeral and he said goodbye to her.
Also, TheCelebBubble:, I do not appreciate being called a moron either! I will neither accept, nor tolerate, disrespect from any UA-cam member, and I delete all negative comments. A lot of people may or may not have never met Elvis, John Lennon, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston; but their deaths affected them deeply, and they were a part of their fans' lives as well. I mourn the death of Eva Gabor. I don't really care about what other people think! She was my idol!
I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Eva when I worked at the Robinsons-May department store, while working in the women's shoe department. It was in 1995, just weeks before her trip to Mexico, where she fell! I smiled and inquired if she needed any help. Eva said "No, thank you, just looking". She was shopping for sandals for that same trip! Three weeks later, she was gone... 😢 I also met Merv, a few years later at the Pacific Design Center, at a fabric showroom, while waiting for samples. We both said hello... to this day I wish I spoke with him about his talk show! 😔 I've also met Johnny Mathis, twice! Both times while shopping for groceries in West Hollywood. Was very friendly. I've seen Connie Stevens, outside her former day spa in Beverly Hills, while she was sitting at the patio drinking iced tea. Finally, I happened to drive by the Good Shepard Church in Beverly Hills (same place Eva's service was held), the day Frank Sinatra's funeral was taking place! This is one of my biggest regrets, as I wish I had turned back, parked and walked over to see everyone... including Nancy Reagan, as well as others. 😔 I have seen or met my share, and cherish those memories.
Sadly, Merv Griffin regretted not being there during Eva's final moments. He was in Atlantic City on his boat the day she died. At least he went to the funeral and paid his respect to her.
I am shocked at some of these comments. Eva was beautiful and Zsa Zsa. I didn't know them personally. But no matter what, they are Home and they were and are Loved. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I'd hardly call Eva his paid beard, they were long time chums their relationship was strictly platonic. They were neighbors in Palm Springs and the best of friends. About as far as it ever went.
Of course they were. Although there were marriage rumors going around at the time that they were both going out together, they never got married. Eva never got married again after her fifth marriage broke up in 1983. Her last husband was seeing a much younger woman behind her back, and she divorced him. She never got married again after that. She just didn't want to get hurt anymore. And for religious reasons, Merv Griffin never got married again after his divorce. He got divorced in either 1973 or 1976. I strongly believe that this was a serious relationship. And I wish they would have gotten married. There were marriage rumors going around at that time. Zsa Zsa even told the press that they were going to get married. Merv would have been an excellent husband to Eva. Like I said, I strongly believe that this was a serious relationship. I have pictures of them on my cellphone. They were always smiling, holding hands, and he even had his arm around her. They were so happy together. But unfortunately, they never got married. This is the longest relationship that Eva ever had with a man that she was never married to.
To Guy Will's comment on the worth of a human life: God is the One who judges what a person's life is worth and its value. Do you want someone making such a callous dismissal of the sum and worth of YOUR life? Eva brought laughter to me and a lot of others on GREEN ACRES. What will they say about YOU when it is your time???
I have loads of pictures of Eva on my cellphone. I have them in two albums. One is from her Green Acres days; both on and off the set. And the other one was when she was going out with Merv Griffin. This may sound crazy, but I look at these pictures every time I listen to the music of my 60's childhood. I've been doing it ever since I was a kid. I first started looking at Eva's pictures while listening to music while she was still on Green Acres. I would look at both pictures of Eva and her husband at the time, Richard Brown; while listening to the top tunes of the day on Famous 56, WFIL, here in Philly. And I've been doing it ever since. My interest in both Eva's and Merv's relationship started up again three years ago. Just before I went to Los Angeles for 11 days, I was listening to my cassette tapes of these weekend oldies shows that I taped off of the Philadelphia radio stations at the time they were going out together. I took some of these tapes with me to Los Angeles and I listened to them right there in my hotel room. It just makes me feel good all over.
TheCelebBubble: Excuse ne, but I was a big fan of hers! I may have not known her personally, but she was a part of my life. We are talking about somebody who I idolized and admired ever since I was eight years old. In fact, when I was nine, she sent me an autographed picture of her. The next time that I go out to Los Angeles, I am going to visit her grave, along with Eddie Albert's and Merv Griffin's. I will definitely meet her in the afterlife.
Eva Gabor died one year after John Candy. She died two years after Raymond Burr. I am surprised though that Raymond and Eva never did a film or show together.
+Nate Schario so what??? WHO CARES that Eva Gabor died one year after John Candy and two years after Raymond Burr?? and WHO CARES why she never made a film with him?? Gabor's acting (outside of "Green Acres" which was pure camp) doesn't even hold up at all today.
David Hoffman Sorry, but that's indeed Jolie as MrVideverdade mentioned. And by the way, Magda was 79 here, Zsa-Zsa was 78, and Eva died at age 76 -- all very close to your 'old lady' age of 80.
By 1995 Jolie was in very bad health she was about 96-99 depending on what source you look at and her memory was pretty gone, I guess they didn't want to hurt her.
In addition to her relationship with Merv Griffin, wasn't Eva Gabor involved romantically with Frank Sinatra? Parenthetically, I can't fathom why her husband released photos of Zsa Zsa Gabor in her mid 90s, showing her in a debilitated and bed ridden state, when he knows how carefully she cultivated an image of being impeccably groomed in public.
Yes. Eva did go out with Frank Sinatra after she and fourth husband, Richard Brown, had broken up. Unfortunately, I didn't know about it then. And I don't how long she went out with Frank Sinatra. Also during that same period, she went out with Glenn Ford as well; but I didn't know how long she was with him either. Then she met and started dating the man who became her fifth and final husband; Frank Jameson. She married Frank Jameson just three months after her divorce from Richard Brown was final. And Frank Jameson was divorced from his first wife as well. Both Eva and Frank Jameson were married for ten years until they split up in 1983.
The final photo of Zsa Zsa was taken in 2014; with her daughter, Francesca Hilton, at her bedside. It was sad. Zsa Zsa was completely bedridden. She was no longer that feisty glamorous woman that we all came to know. And unfortunately, Francesca died the next year; 2015.
That's Mama Jolie in the wheelchair. Sadly both Mama Jolie and the other sister Magda died two years later; in 1997. Mama Jolie died on April Fools Day. Magda died on June 6; just three days before her birthday and on the anniversaries of both D Day and the day that Bobby Kennedy was killed. For the next 19 years, Zsa Zsa was the only surviving member of the Gabor family. (Their father, Vilmos, stayed in Hungary. He died in 1962.) And of course, we lost Zsa Zsa exactly one week before Christmas in 2016. The Gabors are all alive today in spirit. And they're all in a much better place. And I plan to be with them when I die too.
I had originally planned to go Los Angeles after my visit to Hawaii this fall. However, for financial reasons, I moved my trip up to next April. But I still would like to go back there and see Zsa Zsa's grave and try to get a picture of Merv Griffin's grave as well. When I was there exactly three years ago this month, ( October, 2015), I was going to get a picture of Merv Griffin's grave. Because I was there in the morning, I couldn't get one. It was just too shady on the side of the cemetery where he's buried at. If I go there in the afternoon, it probably won't be that shady.
Zsa Zsa’s husband is taking her ashes back to Hungry because he claims that is what she wanted. I’m surprised she would not want to be with her Mother, Sister and daughter’s graves. I know she didn’t know her daughter had died.
@@gregrich I just read he did bring Zsa Zsa's ashes back to hungry that gold digger. Such a shame he ended up with all her money and the daughter died homeless.

Sorry about that. Anyway, I should have been there. After all, I was (and stll am) Eva Gabor's biggest fan. Her death was such a shock and so sudden. She had so.much energy and vigor for a woman of her age. As healthy as she was, she could have lived another five, ten, fifteen, or even te
Eva still had so much youth energy, and vigor for a woman in her 70's at the time. She exercised a lot. She used to swim and she played tennis as well. In fact, she and Merv Griffin were both tennis buffs. One year, she had a tennis party at her house to celebrate Merv Griffin's birthday. As healthy as she was, she could have lived another 10, 15, or even 20 years. But sadly, she fell and broke her hip while she was on vacation down in Mexico. She was taken to the hospital with fluid filling up in her lungs. She was diagnosed with viral pneumonia. She was given medication and she was put on life support. But she still didn't get better. She fell into a coma. She was taken off of life support. And then she died. All within a two-week period. To me, it was such a shock! I also read that Merv Griffin was notified. He arranged for her to be picked up in Mexico and flown to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Her doctors were there. It would have been too risky for her to be treated at a Mexican hospital. But unfortunately, Merv Griffin was in Atlantic City on the day she died. He deeply regretted not being there when she died. At least he went to the funeral and paid his respect to her.
Most of these people on her funeral thinking: Oh God! Now i have to pretend i'm sad!? Am i a good actor enough to be convincing??? Eva was a very nice down to earth person, but i'm sure a lot of those people in the crowd just saw her as a rival or nobody important while she was alive. Especially her sister Zsa-Zsa!!! Zsa-zsa is a self conceited narcissist and Eva wasn't, and because of that they could never understand each other. Eva went "too soon" and Zsa-zsa is still sticking around living almost 100 yrs. I wonder when Zsa-Zsa finally goes, are the sisters going to meet each other!?
MELEDITH L. I'm not saying she wasn't conceited. Just say conceited. Calling her self-conceited is redundant. It's like calling something an unexpected surprise.
There seems to be some disagreement as to whether Eva Gabor was a beard, a paid beard, or good friend to Merv Griffin. I'll explain it this way: Eva was not so mercenary. All she asked for was use of Merv's private plane whenever she wanted. Beyond that, we don't know. There is no evidence she shook him down, and it is probable they were good friends and liked each other. It is also true that Merv and Eva attended dress-up events together, and that always fuels rumors. That said, I was watching Johnny Carson's show one night, and Merv was his guest. Merv said to Johnny, "... so I was watching your show in bed, and I turned to Eva and said..." Johnny did one of his little surprise takes, and the audience chuckled. So yes, there was a p.r. campaign going on.
not in the least, I have more pressing things to think about rather than to worry about what somebody's sexual orientation is, pity, can say the same about you.
no disrespect to Eva Gabor, I liked her on Green Acres and I thought she was prettier than Zsa Zsa but honestly what did she really contribute to the world? A wig business? Some woman for Merv Griffin to play straight with? Sorry she is gone but really who cares?
Guy Will She contributed entertainment to millions of people, was a delightful actress and looks like many, many people care, she will long be memorable & remembered ..
Eva did more than just Green Acres. She appeared in the movies, on television (before, during, and after Green Acres), and in the theater. She did a lot of charity work. She was also Honorary Chairwoman of the American Cancer Society. (I even have a picture of her attending an American Cancer Society benefit with her husband at the time, Richard Brown, back in 1965; just before she started work on Green Acres.) When she was going out with Merv Griffin, they went to a lot of charity events together. If she was alive today, she would have helped the victims of 9/11 and Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.
As far as whether or not Merv Griffin was gay, he probably took that secret with him to his grave. He never talked about his personal life. He kept his private life private.

Who is the guy in the video who looks like David Bowie?
That is Van Cliburn, the classical pianist and a longtime friend of Eva and Merv.

Who was the lady in the wheelchair mother Jolie or sister Magda ?
Trey Olds Magda
And I plan to be with them when I die too.

do you know who was the woman in the wheelchair i know it was not mama gabour ..who was it any ideas?
in the wheelchair was the oldest sister, Magda Gabor...
"Mama Jolie" was apparently never even informed about her Eva's death
this is sad:(
I had originally planned to go Los Angeles after my visit to Hawaii this fall.
@@freddie3206 from what I read, part of her ashes were buried with Eva and the rest were buried in Hungary

who is the woman in the wheel chair
oldest sister Magda, Zsa Zsa was the middle sister, Eva the youngest
What were they surprised? She was almost 100 years old.
Be happy! She had a great life.
The original Kardashian sisters.
She was just 76. This was Eva, or Mrs. Douglas. It was her sister Zsa Zsa who made nearly 100.
Sorry, but I disagree. The Gabors had more glamour and talent than the Kardashians.
@@Juliaflo LOL. So true. The Kardashians cannot come near to even trying to touch the Gabors.
RIP Zsa Zsa dahhhh-leeeeeenggggg
This is Eva Gabor's memorial service... Pay attention. Te olyan hülye.
I'm taking notes myself.
Why was Nancy Reagan there is she related or intended to go
maybye because they were neighbors in bel air
Eva & Nancy Reagan were close friends.
Merv also went to Ronald Reagan's funeral in 2004. And Nancy was also at Merv's funeral three years later (in 2007).
.
She died too young. And good health to Zsa Zsa too!
76 is anything but young. At least she is not like Zsa Zsa, miserable and ailing in a bedbound state, hooked to feeding tubes.
Love Merv was with Nancy Reagan...her escort to many things in this era...
Nancy Reagan also died the same year as Zsa Zsa; 2016.
zsa zsa looks very very upset .
Definitely... you can tell Eva's death hit Zsa Zsa hard...
Of course that was her sister
Good bye 😢 miss Bianca
Sorry. My cellphone keyboard is very sensitive to much. Anyway, she could have much longer

If I were Lil Kim I would have ONLY rocked Blonde hair on Stage and been MOORE DEMI.
👻
You can call her what you want, "Merv" was in the closet and needed a woman escort. Something the Gabors were experts at. A paid beard.
Lil Kim should have been more DEMI
Merv acts like the poor "husband" when he was gay and Eva was his paid beard
Is there proof, or are you just regurgitating rumors?
@@texan903 It's true! Do your homework.
Kyle Wilson, So true.
whats with the wierd music??
Yes the chatter & music was real annoying
The only really talented Gabor.
i washed Eva in jesus blood and spirit sin n wrong free
Eva was an honestly nice person, and people generally loved her.
tranurse Yes! I think Eva was the nicest in the whole family. (probably the only non-narcissist),
Isn't calling someone self-conceited kind of redundant? If you're conceited, you think of yourself.
PeterBluth Nobody has to be a psychologist to see how self conceited Zsa-zsa was.
MELEDITH L. I'm not saying she wasn't conceited. Just say conceited. Calling her self-conceited is redundant. It's like calling something an unexpected surprise.
Lil Kim should have took ✍'s
Sorry about that. Anyway, as healthy as she e
what a terribly artificial clan..
So yes, there was a p.r. campaign going on.
pardon me but who cares??
Greg Rak You.
not in the least, I have more pressing things to think about rather than to worry about what somebody's sexual orientation is, pity, can say the same about you.
Me not buying.
blah blah blah
no disrespect to Eva Gabor, I liked her on Green Acres and I thought she was prettier than Zsa Zsa but honestly what did she really contribute to the world? A wig business? Some woman for Merv Griffin to play straight with? Sorry she is gone but really who cares?
Guy Will She contributed entertainment to millions of people, was a delightful actress and looks like many, many people care, she will long be memorable & remembered ..
Guy Will YOU care enough to comment Darling
I was bored.
