What next as UK's first space mission ends in failure?

- For the first time - we were told - a mission launched from British soil would see a rocket slip the surly bonds of Earth - or, to be more precise, Cornwall.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But an 'anomaly' following the launch at Newquay Airport last night saw Virgin Orbit's cargo of satellites burn up in the atmosphere somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, and with it - perhaps - the notion of the UK becoming a major player in the new space race any time soon.

Nice achievement 😂😂😂lot of love from india
😂
This Achievement should have some space in British museum 😆
I know what’s next, sort out the NHS and cost of living... I could go on.
generally every £1 spent on space exploration results in around £15 entering the economy. If we want a strong economy going into the future then we should be investing more into space, not less. There's plenty of money sitting in the bank accounts and property portfolios of britains millionaires to pay for the NHS and cost of living, we dont need to scrap a money maker to save a few poultry millions.
@@WhichDoctor1 A better way is saying research related to space generates X amount of society benefits. Then we should compare it to societal gains from pharmaceutical/biological/chemical/A.I or any other field
Or to societal gains from fixing NHS problems and then judge is the best investment.
I could cite papers putting the benefits of public health programs to fight obesity in children close to £40 for each £1 investment yet those programs are underfunded.
Yea Virgin really care about the NHS 😂😂 they literally sewed government after they bribed government legally for contracts in the NHS lobbying is legal bribery.

Not the UK's first space mission. The UK had a space agency in the late 1950s early 1960s based on the Isle of Wight. Do your research.

You know most space programs start with a series of failed missions right? Like the Apollo mission wasn’t successful first time.

You’ve been on UA-cam 17 years and have only 4 subs?

How could that possibly be?
It seems like even less people are interested in what you say than are into what I say.

How's the head?
In regards to the UA-cam subscriber topic I haven't used the platform to coax any subscribers before. When I first joined I did a few silly videos and was about to make more but something happened. Now I only use it to watch content and occasionally comment.
I prefer to make theatre and do more physical discussions instead of this ether world where anyone can say or be anyone but sadly with more malice these days.
I try to be mainly in a positive manner but sometimes I may have been a bit rude.
You see, to understand oneself is to sometimes accept others views or be able to be fallible. To see others.
Also, to conduct in a respectful manner.
Now I really did seem to touch a nerve a few days ago as you went on this rampant ego rampage ( sorry to use the word ego again as I know this frustrated you previously)
Anyway, you see when your reaction is laid out it gives me and others the impression that you really aren't okay.
You went on an personal mental assignment to poke and say words which you though were harsh to me. It's okay mate. I only feel more empathy for you and you're possible stressed mental state.
Now, I am here to genuinely help if needed.
I know that me putting myself out here again will make you repeat the written rampage from before but am a kind soul that is just wanting others to be okay.
If you're fine then theat really is great.
If, however, there is another rampage of words again I still hope you have a good life
That you find that hope and goal
That you become the best that you can be
Anyway
Be well
At what cost
Maybe 3 new hospitals Nurses pay Rail workers pay etc etc

I doubt Richard Branson is planning on donating a few million pounds to the British government anytime soon.
The UK remains a world leader in space? first rocket up and it failed, considering other countries have managed to send rockets up successfully I would struggle to claim we are world leaders in space.
We make satellites etc. Also, I imagine other countries have lost rickets over the years. Happens quite often
First learn math... 😂
@@veernair do you have any idea how many failed attempts it takes to launch a rocket into space? The UK has one of the best education systems in the world. I’m no fan of the UK but this is simply ignorance
@@allergy5634 yes such a good education system, where 8th graders cut classes to take drugs.

Why waste money on all this !! Instead fund the NHS !!
So you expect Virgin Galactic to fund the NHS 😆
@@pjl8119 I bet there's a few MPs on both sides with money stashed in tax havens 😉
I mean, if Virgin Orbit is paying UK tax, they are funding the NHS, so…
They should be dealing with their domestic chav problem first, I think space exploration is way out of their league.
Some serious, spin 😆
First attempts almost always end in failure but gather much data
5..4..3..2..1...we have scrumpy......
Good talker. Book a seat
Why? What is the purpose of this? We can't afford the running cost of NHS , yet we try to be like the Americans for no apparent reason. It's ridiculous.
Classic dumb comment: let's only spend money to sort out problems, let's not invest in future technology. Let's only see the costs not the benefits we can have in the future. In any case, this is a private company and if you think putting more money in NHS (which is paid by your taxes for a fixed amount) would make more sense, then you are ridiculous.
SpaceX method is the best.
Have we stopped working with partners in the European Space Agency?
Another brexit winner
It’s a shame
The only failure is to never try anything new. Space travel is high risk. Let's just regroup an do it again.
A teaspoon of rain in a country renowned for raining causes pile ups and 250 ton trains to stop hm......lets leave space alone guys
Where did it go 🤔
Whether the money spent on this launch would really have gone to the NHS is very doubtful. I have no problem at all with people who are against space projects because they are against the whole idea of spaceflight, that is absolutely fine. But to say that if there were no spaceflight all the world’s and Britain’s problems would all go away is nonsensical. Problems have always existed as long as humans have existed and problems will always exist as long as humans exist. Ending spaceflight will definitely not end world problems whatsoever.
However, the amount of satellites and their ever increasing numbers are increasing the danger of so much debris in orbit that access to space one day may no longer be possible. Then that would definitely end environmental monitoring of space and indeed our technological society, as society depends so much - though few people realize it - on satellites would end too.
And if we can not even save the space above us and the night sky unpolluted from so many satellites, you can be sure the planet below can not be saved either - in fact the planet may have been beyond saving for a very long time now. After all, our rhetoric on the subject has never ever been matched by our actions, and with every year the countless problems the world is beset with get worse and worse. Yes, it would be great if the world could be put to rights by ending spaceflight but things are not nearly as clear, simple and straightforward as this and no thinking Person would claim they are.
Our Willy Wonka gold ticket
Try again.
It was a massive failure, there’s no denying it.

"UK's first space mission" is that a bad joke? Is CH4's work experience sector doing these articles? Or is this just a pathetic clickbait headline? All of a sudden I support privatisation of ch4, who approved this abomination of an article?
I wonder how much emissions come from the media themselves reporting on the climate? It must be quite a lot. Did this report emit any CO2? It would be interesting to know. Maybe the media should stop sending reporters around the world and all journalists and reporters should stick to staying at home, or at least not leaving their own countries, and report from their own countries instead.
One thing is certain though - ending emissions will take decades and seems to be as far away as ever since talk about the climate began on a large scale in the late 1980s. And, far from cutting emissions, emissions have INCREASED hugely since then, and frankly, no one has any realistic idea of how to solve the problem. So far, though, rocket launches amount to only a tiny fraction of total emissions, and environmental monitoring from space is more friendly to the environment than sending people all over the world to monitor the environment, as they will not be walking, cycling, using sailing boats and so on to get to their destinations for that monitoring.
