In many anime, the ego can be seen as a force that both builds and destroys. Characters who allow the ego to dominate their actions end up exposing vulnerabilities that often lead them to make crucial mistakes. This happens because, according to Freud, the ego is the part of the psyche that seeks to balance the impulses of the id (our most primitive desires) with the demands of reality. When the ego loses this balance, we become blinded by pride or the need for validation, which can cause us to lose sight of our true goals.
      In this case, it's possible that he was betrayed by his own need to assert power or control, which, psychologically speaking, is a common trap when one seeks external validation instead of self-awareness and self-control.
