They put him in as he is a popular character that is beloved, just because he wasn’t in the original doesn’t mean he won’t be in other games and releases He goes anyone where a strong weapon is, while not in the video he was also in ff1 looking for Excalibur in the dawn of souls remake.
I more suprised he didn't bring a gun in 7 rebirth since he is a only one who can actually travel in multiverse in alot different final fantasy universe 😂

Honestly i still adore whoever at Square Decided to make Gilgamesh the one Constant between ALL of the Final fantasy Anthology. After Final Fantasy V. Having him just pop up no matter What Numbered or non numbered titles. Like they even Managed to retcon him into Previous Final fantasies Like Strangers of paradise Canonizing him in Final Fantasy 1 and now of course Rebirth. Like Unlike the many Cids, Biggs and wedges. it's not a re incarnation or a an in universe stand in It's JUST him the same Silly fucking guy Stumbling across all of time and space.
if we count re-releases (ie, GBA versions and the like) then in terms of mainline he has been in 1(dawn of souls)-4(after years)-5-6(GBA)-7RE-8-9-12-13(-2)-14-15-type0-WoFF-Strangers of Paradise (i count these last three as mainline) there is a Gilgamesh in 11 but he's entirely different character unrelated to the goofball we all love. if we also count spin offs and side games and such, then he is in A LOT of games. dimension hopping dude gets around!
Eh, the ff15 could be about anyone or anything else. Doesn't live up to how the size of his personality and humor, combined with the badassery his boss fights bring.

See, I vividly remember in OG FF7 that using Odin would sometimes cast Gilgamesh instead.
I think you may be thinking of ff8, where Gilgamesh replaces Odin after Seifer wipes Odin out in one hit.
