I really love floki... The way he walked across on the battle field #badass
They skipd the battle cuz there was no batlle lol.
Yeah seriously, they probably just plowed right through them.
It was a complete massacre. It was so lopsided that raids against unarmed civilians take precedence. Lol
True
Either a slaughter or the army said you want revenge on him ok we'll leave you to it
Haha honestly 🤣
It wasnt a "battle", it was a rout, followed by a slaughter. They were smart to save the money for the inevitable battle with Ecberts kingdom. You have to think in terms of quantity or quality. They could have several smaller fights that feel lower budget and smaller in scale, or they can have one big battle that feels truly satisfying. Game of Thrones is the best example of this. Every season they go easy on the action early on, so that they can later have episodes like Blackwater, Battle of castle Black, Hardhome, and Battle of the Bastards. As we all know, those episodes are truly satisfying.
Drew Q)! Agreed!
When they hanged up King Aelle after the Blood Eagle was done, and we heard Ragnar say what he said about the "Old Boar", it seemed like Bjorn was thinking about King Aelle's kin would seek revenge for his suffering too.
People need to understand that the budget for this show isn't as big as game of thrones or any other show that has a bigger budget. Even GoT can't do more than one big battle in one season. That being said, next week's battle is gonna be epic! i can feel it.
The point is that it was a slaughter there was no need to spend money on 1 minute battle
seriously that slow mo and build up of the battle and then not showing it disappointed me but I forgot pretty quickly when they started the blood eagle
Lagertha is changed in the same way as the others when Ragnar died, and Ragnar took a part of Lagertha, a part of Egbert and all the others . And for Lagertha, Aslaug in her actions took so much from her , even her grandchild . Idk but sorrow and raw rage changes everyone . I feel her , she is in the eye still .
I definitely got frustrated we didn’t see the battle as well when I first watched, but then I saw the episode again, and watch the size differences. What battle? There was no battle, the GHA plowed straight through Ælle’s forces, probably killed almost everyone and took Ælle with them. It’s good they saved their budget for the next episode, we got some sweet and more balanced battle there, Æthelwulf at least stood a chance as far as his army went, he just got outsmarted by Ivar.
the northumbrians were heavily outnumbered, so it wasn't going to be much of a fight; it makes sense for them to skip over it + save the big battles for Wessex
Don't worry man, the battle against Wessex/Mercia will be epic!! Biggest thing that Vikings has ever done! ;)
Great reaction dude as always, your face was like mine when there was no battle scene lol.
Hey man...sharing is caring! I've never heard of the bloody eagle so I was surprised that so many people knew of it.
"Lagartha is fucking beautiful" - In the show she should be 51. So she doing very well indeed.
Dude, Rollo's wife though. Princess Gisla is solid.
Drew Q Really? I find her goofy.
I mean, to each their own, but she is super hot to me. Maybe its the accent that makes you think that?
Drew Q)! Lol no, it's her face
Oh, well in that case we just fundamentally disagree.
Damn, ive started re-watching your video from S01Ep01 and you've been so spot on on ur prediction since the beggining its crazy haha
Love the setup!
It's crazy how perceptive he is
And yea, its sad and weird as shit, not having Ragnar around anymore.. But the first chapter of this tale is officaly; "The Saga Of Ragnar Lothbrok" as i found out a couple of years back, while reading about the plans for the show
Do they actually have it mapped out like that?
yeah they will continue with the saga of his sons after his death
Even two years later, he still feels like he’s around in the show, his presence is all over it and they talk about him all the time. I think Hirst and Fimmel created a monster for the show with their version of Ragnar, and made him one of the best characters in TV history. Hirst wanted to focus on the sons more, because they were the ones who really kicked off the Viking age after Ragnar opened the doors for it, and they became greater and more famous than him, but he progressively developed Ragnar with Fimmel to the point where he became the definitive face of the show and now the show can’t move past him. Even though his sons became more of everything he was in the sagas, in the show, as great as they become, they’ll never be Ragnar. And I say that while remaining a die hard fan of the show, I can’t wait for the final season.
Yeah they already had the snake pit and were ready to shoot the death scene at the end of season 1, but they found out they getting renewed, mainly because of the audience response to Ragnar.
I can kinda get why they skipped the battle. I'm sure they don't have a "Game Of Thrones" type budget and big battles get expensive
No
Your face when you realized the blood eagle was coming is priceless.
Ubba is so underrated, of all the sons of ragnar hes the most like him, not just the looks but overall. People accuse him of not being strategically smart but this idea of a perfect protagonist only happens in tv shows. In real life even the great conquerors made huge strategic mistakes sometimes because they focused on the big picture, you don't have to win every single battle to win the war, you have to think about what you want to achieve and then do everything to achieve that goal. Although he will obviously not get any major titles by the end of the show but he definitely is a great character, cool minded and knows the end goal and does everything he can to achieve that.
Also people criticize him for trying to negotiate with Athelwulf but anyone with basic knowledge of how wars were fought in medieval Europe can see why he thought it was a good idea to try and negotiate.
They were winning the war, had legal rights(as far as they knew) to a massive land, and already avenged their father by killing both aelle and ecbert, they had limited army in enemy territory where it was impossible for them to reinforce meanwhile given enough time Athelwulf would have easily raised a large enough army to completely decimate the vikings.
I really like ubba, very interesting character
Sith, I am so happy you're doing The Last Kingdom. Great.
LK is sooooo good, but it will spoil vikings, I want him to react to it as much as u do, but season 2 will be even later than GOT, and the wait its killing meeee. It has 8 episode so I think he better start it 8 weeks before it premiers so that he doesnt wait :D
There should be a huge battle coming up and i think that is why they skipped that one, Really good reactions as always
this is one of the two Blood Eagle rituals "recorded" in writing altough i remember that it was Ivar who performed it
Yes, the other "recorded" blood eagle was Halfdan Long-Keg who was blood eagled by Torf-Einarr.
I predict Astrid got pregnant the moment Earl Jorgensen died.
Ooh, I like it
maybe lol I like that idea!
Yep! According to the Norse accounts, Aella was executed with the Blood Eagle. Of course, the Anglo Saxon chronicles just say he died in battle. Tsk.
I just love how brutal and sexy this show is.
Hail! High praises and 7 blessings to you man, I've waited for you reaction :)
I agree, me too, the only thing I didn't like in the episode was that we didn't see the battle :\ Now, I understand that it's due to budget and not having to much to see (The vikings just wiped them with ease). But at least half a minute of imagery, of the Saxonxs run aways or something... It could add a lot :\ The way they left it, it's like you had this insane epic build up but then - Woops, you missed the battle :)
About Finehair, I think the princess used the "king of all Norway" as a metaphor. She said, in other words, "I will never marry you". It's like you telling a friend that you will give him a car if he will become the president. Or something like that. But Finehair took her words literally...
12:47 lol, I should start using it. "I'm Viking, honey. I am going to get drunk before we go to bed. This is our way of life".
And well, Torvi and Lagertha are officially freaking cuckqueens... Come on, one of you. Kill Astrid at least...
15:44 The soldier really intended to say "You're also going to receive a huge donkey dick in your arse"
Love your reaction dude! Your face when they cut the battle though lol
Those actors that plays King Harald Fiinehaire and his brother is my countrymen and God I love them can't wait to see what happens to them.I was so disappointed that they skipped that battle scene hope they will so the next one.
I think there will be a time jump between this season and season 5. The kid playing Alfred in season 5 is actually 17 years old right now; Alfred thus needs to go from about 12 or 13 now to 17, 18 next season. I'm excited to see all the battles between the Vikings and Wessex! Ferdia Walsh-Peelo is playing Alfred, and he's a great young actor. Opposite Alex Hoeg Andersen, what a duo to watch!
A little story from history: After the death of Ragnar, King Ælla send a messenger to tell the sons of Ragnar what had happened. When the messenger found the sons in the longhouse and told them about their father's death he watched how the brothers would react. Two of them were playing chess and one pressed a piece inside of his hand so hard that his hand started to blead. One of cutting his nails and after hearing the news, he cut a deep wound into his hand. One of the brothers roared like a bear. The last one sitting on the high seat only looked at the messenger and said nothing and his face didn't change. After returning to King Ælla, the messenger told what he had seen. King Ælla said: "I don't care about the three, but we should be very afraid of Ivar."
Hey man, really liking your reaction videos, nice setup and nice comments 👍
If your searching for something to watch after Last Kingdom I propose Black Sails, it's a really good show, a little bit slow at the beginning but it gets better. There's 3 seasons out and the fourth and final one start soon.
Maybe Hell on Wheels could be in your taste if your interested in railroads and far West ^^
just read that torvi (georgia) and helga (maude) are sisters and the daughters of the writter micheal hirst
Anybody else missing Ragnar racking up 50+ kills in a season? Or is it just me?
Eh, he got old. It happens to everyone, but he still ended up racking up a massive amount of deaths with his intellect. Through his move of sacrificing himself by getting Ælle to kill him, he caused the formation of the Great Heathen Army and caused every subsequent death since that point.
Here come the BROTHERS of destruction.
The blood eagle was reserved for the worst of the worst. In viking culture it was considered THE worst punishment, and you had to endure it in silence in order to be allowed into Valhalla.
Sure, I'm late to this, but I just have to say I feel like skipping the battle was actually *hilarious*. Aelle's army got wiped out so easily it wasn't even *worth* the screentime to show it. Pretty pathetic on his end, epic on ours! Why did they win so easily? Because they're Vikings ;)
the blood eagle wasnt for royalty it was just the ultimate punishment
the big battle is still to come .
"Lagartha is fucking beautiful" then theres me staring at the owl on her shoulder 🦉🤣
Love your analysis.. on point. Keep it up
during the scene of the marriage between Margrethe and Ubbe.. that priestess is Sir Malcolm Murray's wife
I am disappointed they skipped the battle. I get that the battle with Wessex is more important (and honestly, it would just be footage of them destroying Aella) but still. They had some pretty pointless scenes in this episode that were not necessary. To have them at the expense of the battle is iffy to me.
It wouldn't have really been an exciting battle, though. The Great Heathen Army would have just rolled right over the top of them and it would be over.
I'd rather two minutes of Aella's men getting butchered than two minutes on Ubbe and Hvitserk's threesome with that boring girl who's name I keep forgetting.
Massacres can be exciting.
All those countless scenes are called character exploration and are important for the overall show and characters.
That battle was unimportant, the battle with Wessex is where it's at & there's definitely a big fight before the seasons end it was in the trailers + why waste the shows budget on a massacre instead of saving it for the real war.
There was no battle, because that underlines how easily they've won
I know much fans are disappointed not to see the battle, But Im sure in the next last episodes there will definetly be some epic fights ;)
Good insight during the reaction tho, as always ;)
It was smart to cut away. They would have blown their budget by showing us a very one sided fight. There was no battle, it’s very clear that the GHA just plowed straight through Ælle’s Forces and captured him within a few minutes. By skipping that battle, they kept their budget and time for Æthelwulf’s battle, where we see more than just the might of the army, we also see Ivar’s early stages of intelligent strategy.
if u pay attention carefully, when Bjorn is picking up aella after battle, u can clearly see that ivar is moving his legs.
I'm curious about Harald Finehair and his evolution through the show, from what i've read he was one of the most famous Viking kings. Also i was expecting Ivar to blood-eagle King Aelle
This episode made me feel bad for King Harold
Austin Gonder Me too But Bjorn Have To Do It Because Ragnar Is The Man In All The Season R. I. P King Fat
The guy with the scarred face is Egill Skallagrimsson... he is a seriously nasty piece of work... when he was 7 he smashed an axe into a friend's face for cheating in a game.
I don't like the battles; the storyline is what I love!!
first a raging comment then a lil love XD
You should try to get one of your friends who hasn't seen Game of Thrones to come on and do the whole series with you
You can't have big battle in every episode !! The future battle against the Wessex is more important !! ;) (Vikings doesn't have the same budget as GoT...)
Even GOT only has one big battle a season.
Its just agressive passion, better than being all shy and shit. Talking about Björn and Astrid
For the "people hating on Lagertha"; Aslog knew she wouldn't get out of this alive. with a reputation of a self accomplished warrior-queen and the direct hints from Lagertha, there's just no way. Aslog would have left if she tought it was the right thing to do. But obviously she didnt really care about herself that much
The writers screwed up Lagertha in one scene. Come on, we knew Aslaug was putting on a show and of course later she would get revenge with her sons, regardless if she lived or died. All it would have taken was one line, a couple of unsure looks, determination, her getting her to turn around, a question, shoot. Bjorn and Astrid just doesn't make sense, period.
I wonder if this blood eagle is another interpretation
and where is ragnars body/bones? eckbert?
"why do they get freaky? Because they're vikings"
I am so confused as to where the story is going. I'm a little disappointed at the moment. I have to be honest. 😞😞
Maybe Lagertha explains to them that Aslaug was the reason her grandchild died and try to appeal to that side of the boys? I don't know.. All my characters are all flipped around! 😅
I don't know what to think.
But I do know that I absolutely love your reactions! So there's that! ☺☺
Still #TeamLagertha till the day I die, fuck morals
Yes ME TOO!! #TeamLagertha All Day Every Day!!!!!!! Love Her
Cheers, @SiTHFuRioN! Drinking some Fireball whilst watching your great reaction! I loved this episode
I'm having a drink myself right now, lol...
Have a good night my friend...
I mean, Whats up with Bjorn shouting at his brothers like that? It reminded me of Ragnar shouting "I am the king, not you...." back in England
Definitely on purpose. A lot of the sons (mainly Bjorn, Ivar, and Ubbe) have been doing a really good job of showing Ragnar's mannerisms. Its one of the things that the show has done really well, they actually feel like sons of Ragnar.
I did not really noticed, but now that you are saying it, they are indeed starting to feel as his sons, altought in my opinion physically ubbe is the one that looks closer to him
Yeah, Ubbe looks a lot like him.
I see Bjorn as a really realistic result of Lagertha and Ragnar tbh.
totally.
I swear you must be writing these episodes! You make a comment and then BOOM!!!
So the battle was a formality. They outnumbered the soldiers 10 to 1. It would've been a curb stomp, and probably only ended up lasting a few minutes. No, the point of the episode was what they did to him, not the battle.
Donalson´s cameo xD!!!!
24:24 Hmm, I wish somebody asked this of Rollo.
Real talk cried here too lol
when the king was hung at the end was he dead because i heard the blood eagle u suffer for a long period of time
I think he died when he was first mounted and bjorn finished. That’s why Ivar had glee on his face while watching the life drain from Aelle. He wanted to watch his last breath.
I agree with you. King Harald fucked up. She was just stringing him along, but, ironically, it pushed him to greatness. So, does Harald get mad or feel grateful? Such a confusing emotional dilemma lol. Nothing in this show is simple, is it? That’s probably why I love it. There are no true heroes or villains; just people.
I think Lagertha killed her the way she did because it was almost like Aslaug stabbed her in the back initially, when she took Ragnar from her. Almost like
poetic justice to kill her that way
what ever happened to reacting to the last kingdom? i actually love that show and i didn't think i would, it's really fucking good. it did take me like two episode to get fully into it though.
Favorite episode
I still love Lagertha, I was so happy when she killed Aslaug (who was my most hated character) so that made me love Lagertha even more. I don't thing she needs any redeeming, I really don't understand the hate towards her.
Same here
I forgot, one of those 2 brothers, is already king, king of what? of wich part of Norway or Sweden ? can someone tell me ? ty !
STEFAN9484 None of them are kings yet but Will probably become kings soon. In history they did
STEFAN9484 i thought you talked about Ragnars sons. so ignore ny first comment.
Harald Finehair is based on Harald Hårfagre King of norway
but what is his land/territory on which he is king now ?
in Norway , Sweden or Denmark ?
I was actually a bit disappointed in this episode. I exptected much more. Half of the episode was going very slow and then the other half was way too fast. I don't know if they didn't have the budget to film the battle, but for me this would have been a very big part of the episode. I mean this is the fucking Great Heathen Army and the revenge is a very important part in the show. But I think much more is to come in the next episode, so I guess we'll just wait.
I agree, that this episode was very poorly paced. I feel like they are rushing to set up for the battle with Wessex.
I haven't watched this show since Ragnar died. Should I continue?
YES!!! Things have changed but in such a good way...
*cough*William the Conquerer is Rollo's son*cough*
you cut it out...but eckbert didnt answer A-wolf...he couldnt say he loved him..so you were wayy off saying that man. Cant believe you didnt realize that
really....A-wolf is in the same position as Tyrion Lannister.....'You killed my wife when you were born.'' God help him if he looks like his mother.
EroomYrrah I don’t think it’s the same as Tyrion. I think Æthelwulf is just someone who always tries to be a loyal soldier to his father, and uphold his values as best as he can, while Ecbert is a very different man. He’s not moral, and he saw that Æthelwulf is his greatest supporter, who always does everything he asks, in a sense, an extension of him. He depended on him for everything, and Æthelwulf wanted nothing more than to please his father, so much so that Ecbert forgot he’s also his son, who needed love and affection despite not asking for it, and not just a supporter. Ecbert didn’t hate his son like Tywin did, he just grew to see him as a tool moreso than his son. Somewhere along the line, the lines of their relationship got blurry. A great, tragic and complex relationship for one of the greatest antagonists of TV history.
Technically it's not a blood eagle he flayed him alive which is also a documented form of execution of the vikings and it's in other cultures as well. I think ur kind of right about blood eagles being for nobility but I think it's more for men who comitted a serious crime and want a chance at redeeming themselves in the eyes of their gods and see if they can endure it till death without crying out.
But here Bjorn doesnt pull out his lungs and hes more callous and aggressive with aelle than Ragnar was with Jarl Borg. In the first blood eagle even though Borg was trying to plot against Ragnar there was still a sense of respect (the head nod near the end) where with Bjorn and Aelle...well...you get the idea the dude tortured and publicly shamed then killed their father. I'd pay top dollar to have Ivars seat to watch my fathers killer be flayed alive.
You should react to Westworld it was right up there with stranger things for show of the year for me, maybe even a step above.
The real battle is in the next episode.
Wow, Floki back to hating Christians, who saw that coming. LOL
Bjorn did the worst blood eagle ever lol, supposed to be done calmly so the person won't die.
I was also dissapointed, But they saved the budget for the battle of wessex
I think that was super intentional. Notice the look on Alexander Ludwigs face? Plus the way they focused on him. They also seemed to draw attention to Aelle dying too soon. The idea was the Bjorn was taking out his anger.
Drew Q)! yea especially how he's been acting all season...he's super emotional, that's why I don't want him being the leader #TeamIvar
#TeamIvar but also #TeamUbbe
Ivar is way less calm than Bjorn... He nearly took his brothers head off over "Mummy's boy".
Gareth Lawton Ivar is wildcard/hot head for sure but only when attacked.......but Bjor is just an emotional wreck. for no reason,
yeah.. but that HUGE battles are expensive... in extrem. The channel haven´t money for 2 HUGE battles... wessex battle is the important battle. :3
Wasn't this Blood Eagle different from the one given to Jarl Borg?
Think the Blood Eagle done to Jarl Borg was a way to redeem himself, in that if he didn't scream out in agony he'd be brought to Valhalla. The one done to Ælla was out of revenge and hatred and was more meant as a execution than a ritual.
Hiphopopotamus cool, thanks
@@Thleepricon aella just died midway
Realistically you would pass out from blood loss or pain before it finishes.
In theory you can keep someone alive and conscious during the whole process and let them bleed out at the end. You have to be really, REALLY careful.
Bjorn just went to town he killed him along the way
Says vikings like to get freaky fast forward... bjorn bangs basically his stepmom
Last Kingdom is great, but u will be spoiled about the future of Vikings and that 10 years war u keep talking about. Although its most from the english POV.
DO BLACK SAILS. U will love the main characters in there just as u love Ragnar, I promise :D
I was so upset we didn't get to see the battle but last episode they damn sure made us watch an Aladdin market get raided and tried to make us feel sorry for these people with the PC bullshit
They should have showed ragnars body.
have you seen spartacus
yeah I watched season 1, 2 & got half way though 3 but stopped watching it.. I think season 1 & 2 are the best!
Yea really liked gods of the arena
The end of three was good as well
I stopped watching when they changed actor to play the roll of Spartacus , it felt odd and it lost it's never . Sadly
Hvergelmir yea they did the prequel hoping he would get better sadly he didn't so they had to go on with out him and I felt the same way at first the new actor grew on my in season 3
I can see King Ecbert either topping himself or going into exile and leaving Aethulwulf to sort out the mess. Also does the fact that I like Aethulwulf make me a dick? I get that he destroyed the Viking settlement but compared to the protagonists he's not that bad.
He's not all bad, I mean he did save Kwenthrith and he's feeling for her did seem real...
Yeah, there's no real bad characters in the show (not anymore anyway ;) great vids btw, keep it up
I hate the new chick, I really don't see where her character is going. She just happily opens her legs for Ragnar Son's...It says much about Ubbe that he married her, with the addition of sharing her with his brother..At least Ragnar and Bjorn are attracted to fierce women that are warriors/wives/mothers...
Amazing dating advise for a bonus
Loved this episode , but I just wished the whole army chanted Ragnar !!! That would have been sweet to see , and would let that fat ass king know right off the bat that no gold & silver is gonna buy your ass out this one
nice
Why do u fart? cuz we're vikings 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
such a bad episode, not the first one in the whole 4th season, there are a lot of things I really didn't like. I think i'm going to drop it....
lol, I looked 19-20 e.
because I'm from russia Azazazazazaaza
Astrid is such a useless character, hot, but fucking useless. Personally I hope Egil takes Kattegat for Finehair. They are both fun characters to watch, like Lagertha used to be. But no doubt her army of meme maidens will repel them.
