- Classic Game Room HD reviews the ATGAMES SEGA MEGA DRIVE 20 in 1 video game console. 20 officially licensed games are included in the 20-1 Sega Megadrive from AtGames, it also plays American, Japanese and European Sega Mega Drive (aka Sega Genesis) game cartridges. This is also known by some as the Sega Genesis Model 4 Sega Firecore video game console. This particular unit came donated from Qatar (thank you!) and is not available normally in the West. The AtGames Sega Megadrive 20 in 1 game console has a switch to play NTSC and PAL video games, it comes with 2 controllers and a set of RCA cables for composite video and mono audio. Although the inclusion of 20 games including Crack Down, Arrow Flash and Jewel Master is cool, the sound quality and odd compatibility with some games make this console a 2nd rate option even with its excellent features giving flexibility to players around the world.

While I saw the same 80 games in one in a store for $40 as well, there is one key thing to know. Its actually 40 Sega games and 40 flash games.
I still like a few of the flash games
my favorite game pre installed is mr. balls
I have the 80 in 1 version and the controllers kinda suck, they are wireless, but they work witv infrared so yeah, they dont work
I've got one of the newer models that comes with 80 built-in games as well. :D
Five years later and the audio is still playing in the wrong key.
7 years later and they still haven't fixed the audio
AbandonedProgram I have the latest Model, The audio is still off, but it's no ear grating like the earlier models.
The European ripoff PXP3 sounds better than this, even with the wrong pitch.
8 years later and they put the inferior ROM's of Pacman in their atgames flashback blast system

Not lazy - cheap. They won't spend the money to pay someone to fix the sound emulation issues, even though they're making a fortune on these things and could easily afford to fix them.
I have the American 80-in-1 version and despite what people say, I love it
I got the AT Games 80 game system and I tottally love that I got it at the Black Friday price of $25! Good memories and great fun! Sound is a bit off, but playing Ecco while having the songs in a lower tone give the game an even better feeling of isolation.
Fantastic review. I didn't even know this beauty existed. I can understand what you mean about the sound being a lot rougher than the original megadrive. Still a neat gadget and very, very portability and with 20 games included I think it is good value for money for entry level retro fans.

I love my FC Twin! The only downside that I've found is that it won't play Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse.
The audio is always what they screw up on these console clones. :C

Had one of those. Terrible speed and sound issues. Played it once, switched to an emulator on my pc, and cried a little for selling my actual model 1 MD a while before..
It's not the device, it's running pal, pal is significantly slower in speed than ntsc, for example the pal version of Sonic the Hedgehog runs at 30fps and ntsc StH runs at 60.
+Killua Zoldyck Godspeed Pal Mega Drive runs at 50hz, not 30. The rom for Sonic 1 is the same rom in both PAL and NTSC carts, so it's a little bit slower on a PAL Mega Drive than on Genesis, but it's still very much fun to play. Different story with this machine, where it's noticably slow and the sound is out of tune.
why did you even sell the mega drive in the first place? just wondering.

The new models come with 80 built in games but at the same time the controllers now use SUPER CHEAP infer red technolodgy where you have to point the controller right at the bloody sensor for it to work, thankfully wired controllers are still supported.
How's the audio?

im not sure, its my friends and i only used it once, but i suspect the audio is still not that great considering the fact that the mega drive is hard to copy audio wise
Jonathan Soko, But only half of the games on the 80 games version are official Genesis / Mega Drive games, the rest are all homebrews made by AtGames.
I had one like this, but it was called FireCore, and it broke after 3 uses. Beautiful.

Mine actually had 40 SG games 🔘 and 40 mostly terrible bargain basement games. 😂 It was a Christmas ✝️ gift. And being able to play old SG games 🎮 is great. I'm surprised the OFFICIAL SG flashback didn't allow that! 🤔
WOW looking at the shape and the black and grey colors of that console and the grey buttons and the odd shape of the controller really takes me back lol i had one of those when i was like maybe about 4 yrs old lol

This IS an official SEGA product, here in the UK you can pick this up (plus a whole host of dedicated protable Genesis/Megadrive devices) in most major videogame stores. Although the game selection was obviously limited to what AtGames could procure, the handheld system is great, I picked up mine for under £10!

I have the ATGAMES portable Mega Drive which came out before this one. It's basically identical but in a portable system. It's okay, firly good D-Pad and screen and it has a line out to play on a TV. However the audio isn't great and it's sped up for some reason. I don't know whether they fixed that for the console version. Anywho another great review from Classic Game Room!

Got one around Christmas from a Walgreens in Florida for $29.95 and it has 40 Sega games on it and 40 off brand games. Sounds was a bit iffy like The Lord said but for $30 bucks not bad at all.

I had road rash back in the ninties but I don't remember how good it was I remember playing it a lot so it must have been fairly good

I'm being pedantic in mentioning this, but part of your video description is incorrect - "is not available normally in the West". It's avaliable in the U.K., distributed by BLAZE (a third party controller manufacturer). It's in most U.K. game stores and has a U.K. power plug.

Wish I saw this review before asking for an AtGames Genesis at Christmas time a couple years ago.
The sound absolutely kills it for me. I still use mine, but that's because its the only Genesis system I've got at the moment.
Yeah, I think the portable version of this unit might have that sort of appeal of throwing it in you bag, and you have a portable Genesis with you. Plus, the portable one plays ROMS.
If you are really interested in the sega genesis go with model 3 way to go but it do sega cd or 32x

It's true, it is Sega Licenced. It's called the Firecore in North America. There's also a Handheld version.
I wish the one I bought worked. I got it straight out of the package, and all that showed on the TV was a solid green color with garbled graphics on it! D:
Yes, it is an officially licensed thing, though afaik not available through normal USA channels to buy stuff from (like a store's website NOT Amazon).
A system like this from my techie perspective is great for embedding a Genesis/MD into something else for a homemade Teradrive!

I've seen this on some stores, but I'm not going to take the risk and buy it lol
@chad21shelter - The RetroN3 is NTSC only and its region switch is just for Japanese MegaDrive games. It does not change the video signal output by the RetroN3. In order for it to output PAL video, you need to mod the system.
I don't know why the European market isn't getting clones like the RetroN3 whereas we're getting a ton of these x-in-1 clones in North America. It boggles my mind.

Mark mentioned that he was told that this was officially licensed by Sega. I think he might be getting it mixed-up with the Sega Licensed: Firecore game system, which also has games built into it, it plays Genesis cartridges, and is a Genesis clone. It also physically resembles a black Nintendo Wii.
Does anybody know if it plays Truxton, MERCS, VALIS 3, Rolling Thunder 2 or Death Duel?

I have this console myself and one thing I noticed especially in Sonic and Knuckles is that there can be a huge drop in frame rate and quite a bit of slowdown. But still this console is much better then your typical plug and play consoles.
Spot on review. Mark was correct on the audio quality and and some frame issues. I highly recomend getting this because I bought mine to test my sega mega drive/genesis games to see if they work.
Great for playing Mortal Kombat with my cousins! :D Too bad it doesn't do 32X, that leaves Knuckles Chaotix out of the equation. But good for quick family video game brawls, hehehe.

I have one of these, and i like it for sega mega drive video game's, but when i want to play my sega master system video games, i'm really pissed off because i have a lock on cartridge for sega mega drive, which let's you play sega master system games, in your sega mega drive & when i put them in and turn it on it never bloody work's am doing something wrong or is it just me it never work's so what's the point, anybody know????????.

The newest AtGames Mega Drive has fixed all of those issues. The emulation for sound is a tiny bit off.
I have a handheld at games console which I'm sure has the exact library of games as this.

Here on Mexico, Wal-Mart sells it every Holiday season, ranging from $25 to $32 dollars.
I had a choice between two retro-styled consoles with built in games, Atari 2600, and Sega Genesis. I only got the Genesis because of the cartridge slot.
But I could get more high quality games

The next genesis model is just gonna be a two controller slots, a power button and a little cartridge slot with some cables coming out.
I don't know. I have a version of this with 15-games-in-1 with no PAL-NSTC switch, and the only problem I have is that the games have slower sound and music, yet they still sound and play fine. I might have a better version, I am not sure.
I do agree that the controllers included are quite rough on the hands with very thick buttons and an uncomfortable D-pad, but thankfully you can use any Sega Mega Drive controller.

I'm still working on my Genesis collection, I had a very large one going as of the late 90's but I eventually sold them all so it was back to square one : /
The plus side is I absolutely love doing it and searching for great deals, that and I have a really hefty CIB collection as of right now : )
You know, mine actually work... all the games in it, all the games I got collected, every standard controller, turbo, arcadesticks etc. Even the sound is great. Well, maybe not "great-great" but you know. And the video is not to bad either.
I'd love to see a review of that six button ATgames handheld. (as far as I know they come in orange and blue)

I have a Atgames 10 in One that i bought this day. From the sounds from it, i think that the 10 in One has better sound quality than 20 in One but im not sure, it could be the camera.

I like where these modern budget devices are going. So tiny. So affordable. So modern to keep the classics available. Still...sound and compatability issues scream that you are getting what you pay for.

sega should make a final ultimate retro console, which plays every game ever released on a sega system! it would come with a cd-drive for MCD/SS/DC-games and one single slot for every type of sega cartridge ever created... ;)
latest wireless revision run sf2 but not earlier version (shown here) because they corected a lots of compatibility bugs,but still no sound fix. latest revision works with roms too,thx to a cartridge with a sd slot,provided by the same maker,or a sd only version. i own a one

Mine came with those horrible infared wireless controllers but you can plug in normal corded controllers too

I just picked up the portable version of this with 80 built-in games (including some Capcom) and it's fantastic. The sound still sucks, but it will play roms from an SD card. I should pick up another and send it to Mark.
