    I mean, we were looking for a longer campaign to do, and instead of buying two books, I could buy one, and I feel like that’s nice and convenient. The art is fantastic, and the actual story overview is very easy to understand and follow, no guess work is needed. I feel like this is a great buy for someone who doesn’t have both books, or just wants convenience. Idk, I like the book.

      @@dimitrismakris7602 that’s awesome! Glad I could help lol. I hope you like it, after running through most of this book, I have to say I still love it. Dms will always have to tweak things here or there due to the party, and I think this book still does a great job explaining how to get where you need to be. Some things probably could be nicer, but still a great book for convenience and amazing art if nothing else

    It seems to me that WotC essentially just released a collectors edition of the first two 5e adventures, while making it sound more like a major rework due to previous negative feedback without actually committing to an actual major rework. And I feel that was a huge missed opportunity.
    Also this product does show that they are willing to go back and rework things at least for collectors editions. So why didn't they apply the same thought process to the rerelease of the PHB as an easy way to fix the ranger? 🤨

      PHB is a different beast than a campaign book. The latter should only have one copy at the table, in the DM's hands. Multiple differing copies of PHB's at a table can get messy really fast.

      Great ideas all. I wish they'd do re-works a bit more like the Beadle & Grimm versions, seperating the different parts of the module so DMs can hand out maps etc to players. And yes, they should just re-release the player handbook with the updates, kind of like monsters of the multiverse was basically just a re-release of previous content with updated stats.

    I have the first half of the adventure and while I’m putting my own spin on a lot of the stuff I’m wondering if it may be beneficial to get this instead of the second half so I could get a more seemless transition from one to the next and maybe some art to help with theater of the mind stuff

    Dang. I really hoped reworked opening chapter meant they redid the first chapter. Like solving the unmotivated „run towards the dragon“ issue and the other issues in this chapter. I think this chapter was one of the big problems of the adventure.
    They could have done more then just rebalancing it a little. It still seems incredibly hard for potentially beginner players.

    so is queens hoard and rise of tiamat just smashed together in one book or did they shorten queens hoard so that you can get to rise of tiamat faster but without losing the important parts of queens hoard? and if it's the latter; is it a smooth transition from queens hoard to tiamat? i heard that queens hoard is bad because there's a lot of running back and forth to the same couple of places and having the same fights with the same people. but if you skip queens hoard then you lose the urgency and some of the important stuff that queens hoard gives you. and as a new DM, i'll be honest, i dont know how to handle starting players out at a high level with an army already on their side. i've ran a couple of one shots but i've never done a campaign before. please help and thanks for reading.

    Hi,
    I didn't have the two seperate campaign books Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat.
    I thought it was convenient that they had two campaigns in one book.
    How is the campaign in General?
    DO you have to tweak it a lot as a DM?
    Like give the characters in chapter 1 more time to rest (or more healing potions) or would it be making it to easy on them?

  • @elizabethtroub5809

    I think this is worth picking up due to the cover, errata, the art, the online supplement, and the change in paper (I don't care for the matte finish paper in the original books). The change to Chapter 1 actually is nice since the original version was rather brutal, I like that we can level sooner get some things to stay alive longer, which is enough to change the outcome of the campaign. I have played this twice and each time, someone dies horribly due to being unable to survive some of the crap thrown at you without rest or resources. I already own HotDQ but not RoT, so this allows me to complete the collection. I might even give my old HotDQ book to my dad.

Half of us have never even encountered a dragon before so this one really stuck out to us. Besides that, nice vid man, alot of good info! thank you

  • @clarkside4493
    @clarkside4493 5 років тому

    I played through the first chapter of the first version of the adventure. It was not great and our incompetent DM made it even worse. He just eliminated the option to even take a short rest at all and forced us to go through each encounter, no milestones or anything. Would we have missed out on some encounters by taking a short rest? Yes, and we also wouldn't have lost half the party in the ensuing surprise attack. In addition, his encounter were never ready and he would always ALWAYS roll each monster's hit points while we're rolling for initiative. I might be willing to try this tweaked adventure, because it sounds a lot more doable if you're at least level 2, but it sounds more like that all should have been errata for the adventure already.

      From someone who tried running it as intended... just skip it, with the players suddenly arriving at the roadhouse or have them learn Castle Naerytar's location after defeating the enemies in the previous chapter when going through the loot.
      Just use the stuff in the caravan chapter as inspiration for random encounters, because that's basically what it is.

    First of all I actually enjoyed the campaign and the folks that shine hate at it , I won't dissuade or otherwise attempt to dissuade you from your opinion -- its your opinion. Its ok we disagree. The folks that imply this was supposed to be a re-write are flat out morons. They never said that or implied it. They literally combined both adventures, wrote a new introduction and fixed (hence the errata mentioned here) and that's it. But that's all I expected it to be. I bought this book because I was a player of the adventure and didn't own it...now that I want to DM it I bought the book. The whole point of this is missed on people -- it was released as homage to the very first official WOTC 5e adventure that was released. If you bought this already owning the two original books and thought anything different...that's your bad for not paying attention. Buyer beware, as they say. A stupid consumer shouldn't blame the product.

    • @draakgast
      @draakgast 4 роки тому

      this is a huge strawman you got there man, yeah nobody said this was gonna be a re-work, but nobody thought that the only thing they would do is smash 2 books together and call it a day.
      bad consumer?? more like company keeps things vague enough to leave in wiggle room, this was nothing but a cash-grab.
      you know how incredible lazy this is? why pay good money for a thing that's already released BUT this time we have (drum roll) a new cover!!!!!!! this is like anouncing you're launching a new breackfast option only to give you waffles and bacon packeged together.
      I also see you've missed alot, the reason we started with the dragon-campain is because it's an homage to the original dragonlance setting/adventure, wich is one of the reasons the first chapter are so fucked, the fact that you think it's an homage because ''first 5th E campain released'', where they could have reworked the story, not have it be a follow the dragon after you follow it AGAIN and improve on it no, instead I think ''cashgrab'' fits better, FFS it's not like they put any effort into the adventure all they did was re-shuffle things and update the cover.
