What particular Spec Mix product and type would you recommend? Spec Mix has PORTLAND LIME AND SAND, Type S, N, and M. And they have MASONRY CEMENT AND SAND, Type S, N, and M. I’m in the Virginia/Washington DC area and my roof is concrete roof tile. Thank you for any help.
I cringed as I watched this video!! I am a woman in the roofing industry, it's bad enough trying to convince homeowners that women do exist in this industry, but now having to go up against crappy work from roofers who just don't care!! Trust your roofing crew and follow-up on the work they do before paying them.
Interesting video! Just found your channel through Reddit. What a sloppy job man. I am by no means a roofer and I am fairly certain I can do a better job than those guys. Hell, dip the tails of some cats in mortar and let em run around on the roof and you get something better and smoother than this.
yep your other video "The Worst Roofing Job Ever! This Tops Anything I have Seen in 25 Years of Roofing" was shared on Reddit, currently on the top of /r/videos i love the passion you have for your job. makes the videos relaxing and nice to watch, even if i have no clue about roofing in general.
+West Coast Roofer Good Morning West Coast Roofer, up here in Canada we get roofers that do a lazy, nazy , incorrect install of all types of roofing. Currently we have many workers that have entered from the south. I am not certain if it is a lack of knowledge, lack of pride or simply they do not care and expect to be safely back in the ole USA , after their 2 year contracts are expired. Unfortunately, this kind of install is always discovered after the home owner has been paid abs workers and companies are disappear for area. We now are working with provincal and federal government agencies to help protect homeowners and the trades. Its not as easy for these individuals to get work without business license and to be registered. Its great to see you posting what is wrong and the correct method of repair and method of correct install. We've been saying for decades, educate the population to correct installs , no matter the type of work. I've been on roof's that were actually unsafe to walk on and have found myself inside of a bedroom and once in a livingroom , because the roof was in such rotted conditions. keep up the good work. educate home owners and most importantly encourage local and state agencies to put those responsible for poorly and unsafe work in jail and banned from any type of construction.
Mel, Thank you for a such well thought out response. This is exactly one of the reason I started this channel. I really wanted to hear from people like yourself, see work from other trades and expose the low quality work for what it is. A lot of home owners think all workers and companies do the same work. And, most home owners would never think that some of the things we see every day would ever happen to them. But, it happens everyday. Education is the key. Do's and don'ts and learning a bit about your home before you have a contractor arrive and start quoting you for things you don;t even need. About this particular job. I asked who he last had up on his roof and he said some guy who was going door to door. Never hire a door to door salesman. Those days are over.
+West Coast Roofer I am greatful for your UA-cam channel, perhaps this is a media that will help home owners everywhere. I compelety agree with you about door to door sales. with the cost of a home now a days and the new breed of home owners wanting to do home repair or be pro active in knowing more about their homes and repairs, perhaps videos like yours will get to those in search for proper repairs and or installs. unfortunately there is always a home owner looking for the cheap short cut..which hopefully is also coming to an end also. Call it old school, but word of mouth advertising has always been the best. please keep posting the good work. I look forward to your videos and hope that your education of roofing will continue to grow..from Alberta Canada wishing you all of the very best. Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year to you and yours.
if i had this on my roof. i dont care hiw perfect the mortar looked. id cover the mortar wjth some rubber substance nade for roofs after. everyone knows mortar is porous. even with motar id extend the life of it. and feel better with a non porous coating
That mortar work is abysmal my niece would do a better job trick with mortar is bed n leave Until ready to point otherwise sags n looks like pointed with a shovel well these guys haven’t even pointed it by look of it 😂
I mean I’m no roofer but if you gonna do some shit quality work like that at least get some paint/tint and try to color match the mortar to the tiles. Like dude I can see that shit from a mile away.
I never knew I had an interest in roofing videos but apparently I do. Thanks lol.
JdK 52 Reddit gives us interests that we never knew we had...

When I read the title I thought it was a Rob Wolchek Hall of Shame video. lol
Nice! I should run with that, lol.
I have been roofing for almost 30 years, this was obviously done by the homeowner.
If you saw this guy you wouldn't say that. There's zero chamce he went up there.
That mortar looks like a big bird took residence on their roof
That's right critisise my work ! It was a Friday afternoon man was on a promise
Looks like my recent Red Bull Roofing of Casa Grande AZ. job to reseal and reporter existing mortar joints.

The sound of wind and Oh-My-God is alot of your sound to this video.
Come on man. You know the homeowner did this.
low ball construction
Reddit got me interested in roofing...your videos are great and infuriating at the same time.
Thank you! I hope I was not the cause for making you angry.
I dont care what job it is. You NEED to take pride in your work. Laziness is pointless

We use a cement product called "Portland Cement" little different than concrete mix. Its very smooth and you can wet a trowel to get a smooth finish.
wow looks like a beutiful area, where exactly is this and how do you cope working in the heat. Roofer.from England
.Cheers
This is in sunny southern California. As for the heat. Long sleeve shirts, wide brimmed hats, and hydrate the night before.
Seen this on 80% of the tiles I was on in Florida

It a “S” tile.
They call it Spec Mix. Bought at home depot. It's a pre mix of Portland cement
@SouthCountyRoofing you use Spec Mix Type-s from Home Depot for Mortar replacement? I have some sections that are cracked and would like to fix.

Agreed.
Bridgett, if you're a lady that knows your trade and does it well I'd hire you in a heart beat.

Are you serious? You found this on reddit? That is the worst mortar repair work I have seen. Just when I thought I had seen it all.

Holy shit these videos are infuriating.
I did get to go back to this house and fix the leak. Yeah, it is quite annoying seeing such sloppy work.
How did you end up here if I may ask?
Donald Trump?
