I FINALLY made a Stranger Things edit. I've been watching this show since it first came out and just never got around to making anything for it, but season 3 was so good that it immediately inspired me. Hope you guys like it!

Soooo I just watched that 4 times straight. Just trying to absorb all the little details of your editing. Obviously this is technically flawless and perfectly timed but I really love how you managed to give every character a moment in this. Especially Billy because he was awesome this season. And Steve of course because he’s clearly the greatest character of all time. There’s nobody more inventive when it comes to scene selections for perfect parts of a song. You just nail it every damn time. I loved all the parallels in this too. I’d do a shot by shot breakdown but I’d be here all day. I just loved it all!!! Goddamnit season 3 was so good.

Semi-spoilers aside, this is better than official marketing by Netflix. Would love to know more about your workflow. Do you capture scenes and arrange them by theme, subject, character, the action taking place? Then arrange them on a timeline based a script or notes on how you want it to play out? Or making notes on the key parts of the song and knowing what kind of content you want in that section?
I will usually cut through an entire series pulling out anything I think could be useable in any video in the future. I'll then copy that project over and narrow down footage from the stuff I've already cut based on whatever video I'm making. I often will organize them into categories as well as 'voiceovers' if I have a lot of footage I'm dealing with. Some videos are more mapped out than other ones. It just depends on whether I have a clear vision in mind or if I'm just going with the flow.

You made a Stranger Things edit!! Gosh I never clicked one of your videos faster!! I think I’ve watched this like 50 times since you first put it up.
I do have a quick question tho if you don’t mind? What format do you edit with? I use Vegas 13 for my editing and lately it’s been giving me so much trouble with every format under the sun, even ones that used to import fine. No matter what I try with my codecs and converting.
So I was just wondering about your method of preparing your raw footage. Because I’m at the end of my rope with where to look for a decent answer.
And I hope this doesn’t come off as creepy, but I love every now and then going through your library of vids just to study your style and the techniques you use to perfection. So any insight you could offer I would immensely appreciate.

I use basically exclusively mp4 files for editing and I also export in mp4. I often have mkv source files that I convert to mp4 using the program 'mkvtomp4'.
Grable424 Thank you for the quick reply! It’s a huge help in narrowing my search down. Now at least I’m sure I’m starting in the right direction with the MKV to MP4 formatting. Chances are I’ve unknowingly changed something with Vegas and that’s the reason it’s giving me so much trouble all of a sudden!
