I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand.
I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory!
God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. RIP you legend 👑👑👑
NOW THAT'S AMAZING ! You literally witnessed HISTORY and saw those other amazing acts IN THEIR PRIME!
Thankyou for your reaction, yes they were louder than the other bands however you better be great if you’re going to be that loud, they were so great. So blessed to have this and all of their work forever. There can be only one. RIP Freddie. 🥰 so loved . Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it !
Thanks for your reaction. I liked that you had looked up the facts, and that you watched it with attention and didn't take a swig from a bottle of water.... didn't yawn or look away from the screen at other things in the room. As you can tell I have watched lots of reactions and all these thingsirritate me more and more Good to see a studious informed person who isn't tryig to project some over the top personality. I also love Queen ...... RIP Freddie
Thanks for that!
I don't like the "show off's" either - but I missed some reaction here. It was obviously not " live"- which I prefer.
I hate to disagree but according to those close to him, Freddie didn't have any symptoms until late 1986...and his voice was insanely powerful during the Magic Tour, and actually while not performing live any longer, his voice remained powerful til the end, luckily for us. Watch the whole Wembley 1986 concert, his voice is as good as ever! We were so lucky to have him for the time we did.
He was sick with a throat problem that his doctor told
him not to sing. Don't think it was pertaining to aids.
We watched this directly after the movie and my sister and I both swore we had heard Elvis sing this. I looked it up to discover Freddie wrote this in 1979, while Elvis died in 1977. Like so many people, I had heard Queen songs for years without realizing they were Queens songs. Watching this show gave me a great appreciation for four incredibly talented musicians and a love for Freddie!
RIGHT! I thought it was a Elvis song right "off the cuff" so to speak!
I love how much you appreciate Freddie and the band…… you seem to know a lot about them. Have you seen some of their earlier work ….like “Liar” live at Rainbow 1974 or “White Queen” live Hammersmith Odeon 1975 plus others? “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal is always a must see. Also… “Save Me” or “Tie Your Mother Down “ from the same concert…and “Another One Bites The Dust”, We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions…..that whole concert is simply fantastic. Please continue to react to Queen …. There is so much more 💕. Thank you.
Excellent review! So informative!! I’m a huge fan and I love watching people who are new to Queen or THINK they are until they hear those familiar songs, but I appreciate a reaction like this so much. You’re informing people with real facts instead of misinformation, which I see a lot of in the comment sections of other videos. (Most comments are factual, but many are based on the movie or just hearsay. Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much!!
G O A T 👑👑👑 RIP FREDDIE 🌷
Queen provided their personal sound crew for the entire show, so their people were in charge of all of the sound for the Wembley portion of the show. Queen's sound crew were used to doing large arena shows so they were the perfect crew for this concert. Most other groups were not doing large stadium shows at this time. But you are right, their crew did bump up the volume for Queen as stated by Brian May. There was a sound limit for the show but Queen was given that little bit of an edge. Freddie wasn't having symptoms yet and had not yet been diagnosed at the time of this Live Aid performance. That is one of the places where the movie Bohemian Rhapsody took a bit of creative license and ignored the actual timeline. It was a movie, not a documentary so a lot of things were not correct in the movie. Freddie had nodes on his vocal cords which is common with singers but Freddie didn't want to have the surgery. On this day, he had a throat infection and his doctor had advised him to skip doing the concert but he decided to go for it anyway.
God bless you freddie we miss you
R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
Someone knew Queen were going to be there they have a Queen banner.Greatest band ever.Unbeatable live.Freddie LEGEND.
Yes….but they were added after all the tickets had been sold
Greetings from germany and one of the biggest Queen fans .
72,000 people in attendance and 1.9 Billion people watching from around the world.
Freddie performed against doctors orders with a throat infection.
He said it felt like broken glass when he sang.
When the boys left the stage, a prince from Dubai donated $1 million dollars. Live Aid made 124 Million dollars for famine in Africa.
Thanks 😊 I love Queen 😊
Very knowledgeable and thoughtful review. Really enjoyed it a lot.😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
the reason for the sound settings was experience. i get the idea from things i read that queen were probably more experienced having played in stadiums before, than most bands who were at live aid.
During “Radio GaGa” there is a shot of stage security turned away from the crowd to watch Freddie! Fil of Wings of Pegasus did a great analysis of this performance on his UA-cam channel.
I really enjoyed your reaction. It was informative, but not intrusive, and a cut above many that I've seen. I'll be interested to explore your archives.
I love Fred. Still. I think not enough credit is given to the rest of the band's virtuosity. Between the backing vocals & Brian's beastly guitar skills. Not to mention the driving bass / drums.
Absolutely! Each member of the band brings something unique to the table, and it's great to see them get the recognition they deserve!
They weren’t one of the greatest. They were Thee Greatest. Trip Khalaf was Queen’s sound Engineer and he’s the one that switched the monitors up high level. No…. There were no symptoms of Freddie being sick at this time.
No he did not have any symptoms in 1982He did not have symptoms until 1987 . 4 years before he passed.
Yes the best ever!!!
He couldnt raise the sound volume he removed the limiters. TRIP KHALIF their sound engineer had worked with Queen for years and knew how to get their best sound.
The symptoms from AIDS didn't happen when the show was on he was really diagnosed not long after but he was still sick that day and he was told by his family doctor to not perform because of his vocals and as for everybody clapping along they clapped right away when you pay attention when he first started that's when they started clapping before they turn the camera on to him
Your appreciation for Queen is quite obvious. I love all your fact dropping and reactions. IMO, it's such a shame they got such a mediocre actor, Rami Malek, to play Freddie in that tepid, Queen movie. Rami didn't get any of Freddie's ticks or behaviours down. The Live Aid part of the movie is laughable too: Rami's stubby legs. Lol
