Terrifying: The Venomous Sidewinder Snake Slithers at 18 MPH
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Reaching speeds up to 18 MPH, the Peringuey’s Adder, or sidewinder snake, slithers rapidly along the desert dunes at intimidating speeds. Sidewinding is the fastest way to get around and reduces contact with the burning sand. But, the way this venomous snake buries itself in the sand, and waits to attack its prey, is even scarier.
#SmithsonianChannel #Snakes
So, the snake didn't save 15% or more on his car insurance?

Where's General Ankbar where you need him...? We'll never know what's a trap anymore...
i was just saying that lol
my guy it's Admiral Ackbar
To be fair, I'm pretty sure nature filming goes through hours of boring nothing happening just to find a few seconds of something like that.
0:23 actual footage of me going from the fridge back to my room.
Why did that make me laugh externally, it's so simple a joke.
Thank you though.
What if his room is on upstairs?
Good one my man. My fridge is near my room, but I don't go into it in the night. Lol...
Can be faster than a human and a bike... God plz nerf to 5mph or give humans a buff
It can't sustain that speed though. We can sustain a pretty damn fast speed for long periods of time.
Yeah, but they're still balanced. Humans have limbs and usable thumbs.
Or just grow some balls? Pfft...come on, snakes are still more prey than predator on the whole, and they're smart enough to look at you, a giant creature to them, and know "hey, I can't eat that. Too fuckin' big for me." and sod off before you notice or bumble into it.
It's just a joke y'all
haha smite
02:20 The snake waited to let the lizard finish its bug meal though, very polite.
It's a little extra protein for the snake too.

You don’t want to get bit by a Pit Viper

Oh yeah, the threat is real indeed.
Nah its not a big deal. Just focus and if there is something (which is rare) you will notice. And by the way. In the winter snakes sleep. So every one is safe
I guess that's why cowboys wore boots and not sandals.
@@hermask815 Also they wore boots cause they didn't want them feets to die while they where riding horses. I wore tennis shoes while riding a horse one time. Big mistake

i am not surprised when a bug is conveniently right on top of the snake waiting for the lizard to eat.
You'd be suprised how long it takes to film a certain thing in the wild, could be months in someplace before getting anything at all
George Smith
I have the same question?
yeah, maybe they do use a filming studio for some of it, where they can use a couple animals in captivity, because this would be hard as hell to catch in the wild. Still good stuff, nothing wrong with doing that.

I understood the slithering instructions. It's like this, the snake uses half its body to pull forward and as it pulls forward the body raise off the ground and lands on the other half of the body pushes forward lands on the other half of the body, pulls forward lands on other half of the body and it's a cycle.

It should be noted that one of the Rattlesnakes in northwestern Mexico and the Southwestern USA is the Horned Rattlesnake also known as a Sidewinder. It also has a top speed of around 18 mph and is a bigger snake than this Adder.

How did spend 3 years in the desert exactly ?
TheVEEbR When I was 12 , my family moved to the country side to escape the Somali civil war and we spent about 3 years in vast grass lands/deserts area where it was common to see this type of snake, black mamba and all sorts of slithery creeps. I have seen people bit by scorpions and snakes . It it is rare. The snakes usually run away at the sight of human.

Live Fast Skate Faster no, it's called patience bro. These guys spend days, weeks trying to capture the perfect shot.
The weird diagonal movement makes them look like they're trying some sort of speedrun strat.
if it moves this fast on shifting sand imagine having it on solid ground
These guys are my favorite species of Bitis. They only get to about a foot long. So cute!
The snake coming out of the sand is like Jason coming out of the water.

Looll hahaha
Well I just calculated
18mph = 8.04672 meters per second
8.04672 X 3.6 = 28,968192 km/h
So you don't have to calculate ;)
Edit*: that's one fast boi
Ok
Bigbrain time
Do you have to watch out for sidewinders if you're hiking through sand dunes? Can you even see them if they're buried in the sand? I want to go to somewhere like Kelso Dunes but that kind of scares me.
I saw what I’m pretty sure was a sidewinder recently on my way back down from Kelso Dunes, not in the dune itself but on the level ground with vegetation near the road. I would always wear decent boots and trousers regardless of the heat (never shorts) try not to step on any snakes and don’t do what I did which was stay on the dune after the sun had set. It was tight getting back to the road before almost total darkness.

Burying yourself in sand to ambush prey is a smart strategy
even a spider can do it
Happens a lot with sea creatures on the ocean floor as well
There's just something so creepy about how sidewinders...well...sidewind lol. I don't find any other snakes movements creepy but how the sidewinders move just creeps me out
True
It slithers without rhythm so it doesn't attract the worm.
The spice must flow. Shalahud!
So basically It's like bunny hopping in CSS?

Ethan Wong Thanks man!
Equivalent to side jumping in ocarina of time.
When bae says her parents aren’t home
So they say the way it moves is also designed to limit contact with the "scorched earth" then it buries itself in the sand to hunt. Then they say the sand is cool. I dont think 1/4 inch of sand is enough to dissipate the heat. Doesn't make sense to me. I have a feeling the temp of the sand doesn't bother the snake.
@2:24 how did they record me and my sisters fighting? what stalkers.
