To much grease is a issue to because at high speed the grease will push the gears apart as there is to much in there it doesn't have anywhere to go and under load they can slip. Plastic gear boxes can flex to causing a similar issue. shimmed alloy boxes with some grease might be good.
I’ve just bought a 124007 and haven’t ran it yet! I plugged it up and bind controller the front wheels turned full right (even trim switch full left was shy of straight) and rear diff sounds like C3PO raping R2D2. Going to try reassembly of rear diff! Hope it doesn’t effect any warranty?
Great easy to follow instructions...is this a one time thing? Or do you ever do this again to a car? Most of us have several cars that sit on shelves for years at a time for every couple hours of use..thanks for sharing
The 124008 is exactly the same to, I wish they used hex bolts instead of screws the heads are very soft like chocolate metal so make sure you have a good fitting screwdriver.
Master John, every time I remove the straps the plastic is damaged and I am afraid that they will be weakened by this, wouldn't it be better to unscrew them ? Thanks
Hi, thanks, I'm thinking to get me two of those to race my kids and wife at the backyard. Can you please tell me, if it's got ''battery securuty shutt-off'' at 6,8 V fir S2 and/or 10,2 for S3 to prevent DEAD-DRAIN of the battery ? Thanks
@@FAKE-NAME Racing is great. You'll be happy with the WLT 124017 and 019, namely the remote got speed control button ( marked TH TRIM ) which function as max-speed control and it can reduce it down to a 10 % to play inside :), as we also do. I also got 2x MJX 14210 but they are waaay too fast.
Seriously you are better off not fiddling with it at all. These things are ridiculously strong. I have run the pinion and spur to complete failure, yet the spider gears are still as new. I did add lots of thick industrial grease just for less getting stuck while ripping in sand pits.
Is this a version 1 or a version 2? My brother bought a WLToys 124017 from Aliexpress. It was supposed to be a version 2. It's got the gold motor mount, and the controller is a v8 (like a 124007 style). I would be pissed, but he seems happy enough with it. It came with the stock battery, but the seller said the other batteries have to be shipped separately. It seems very sketchy. I can't find any videos talking about this Frankenbuggy.
He has Version 1, according to the control look („m2r“ is written on the top deck). Version 2 has „m4r“ writing ang slightly different form. My version 2 also had problems with greasing. Greasing is must to do before the race.
might want to look at the motor....i also received what i thought was a V1 with old remote and gold mount...but i took off motor mount cover and discovered it has the V2 19 t pinion, removed the heat sink and it does have the upgraded 4300kv motor...stranged but i believe there are more than 2 versions of 124017...i believe i do have some type of V2...
Seriously wtf I know right not a drop of grease in there, I greased my diffs and it drives superb now ,I used Valvoline all purpose grease not the thin shit the thick shit .thats why i had high speed instability no grease one wheel spun more than the others
It's really a shame that you buy a brand new car and which is "Rtr", and have to unmount it all before using it, it's really putting me off from buying it, although it really looks good for the price.
Sorry that's incorrect. Personally I have used it for 3 years without one failure. Adding to that Traxxas sells it. www.amazon.com/Traxxas-5148-Grease-White-Lithium/dp/B008D9DQ4C Any Internet search shows you can use white lithium grease in rc cars. Lithium grease you cannot.
I got 3 battery changes before mine blew the rear, it was after an incredibly hard hit into a metal pole that may have flexed the chassis though. So could be my fault.
I enjoyed watching this , kinda looking forward to doing mine when they arrive. EXCELLENT JOB
Just ordered 2, guess I'll be doing this when they come in .
Now my diffs are greased. Thank you, excellent video.

If you put a dab of greese between the shims and pinions they will stay on better while you're trying to reassemble.
The 124008 is exactly the same to, I wish they used hex bolts instead of screws the heads are very soft like chocolate metal so make sure you have a good fitting screwdriver.
I’ve got one don’t think it’s pulling on all wheels took her apart there’s no grease in the differential 😭

I would put the whole diff in my ultrasonic cleaner with a solution to wash away old grease . Easy money
This was awesome! thank you :-)

Yes they do, but grease the diffs please
I had the same idea just ordered myself a 124017 and my kid a 124019. How's the family racing 🏁 going?

It's not hard to do the greasing but your right RTR should be ready in all regards, but buy it it's worth the price they go hard
White lithium is ok for metal but for plastic don’t use it, eats it away
