Hi Doug good video, thanks for doing them, I’ve never sailed where is Holland America but I have family members who have and they enjoyed the theme CRUISES. They sailed on the soul train crews and the smooth jazz cruise which is something I’d like to do one day as for new Amsterdam it’s a nice looking ship that seems to be a classic Holland America no frills just straightforward no nonsense cruising with plenty of food choices and music venues
We were on Nieuw Amsterdam Dec. 2022 through the bahamas/Caribeen. It was MUCH quieter than Royal Caribbean & Carnival. A lot less partying & I didn't see anyone drunk. I think they are trying to attract more families by adding teen activities. For seniors like myself, there weren't many activities & the shows were mostly art-type shows, which was boring for us. We enjoyed the comedian so we saw him twice. The adult-only section called Sea-View was often visited by kids, even though signs were on the wall. The signs needed to be on the doors. The food was fantastic! Staff was incredible! The Holland America app didn't work on our Tracfone, even with help from guest services. .Late in the 12-day cruise we realized we could get the app on the TV in our room. TV watching was hit-and-miss, usually miss. So when we just wanted to sit in our stateroom & take a break, we watched Movies on Demand. Remember that all ships' walls are metal, so we took magnetic hooks & a dry-erase board that we used all the time. There wasn't a TV screen to watch poolside. The hot tubs in the adult-only area were supposed to be for 6, but you couldn't fit more than 4 in comfortably. The pool in the adult-only area was too cold to get into, the entire trip. This was a major disappointment. I'm glad they have a no lounge chair-hogging policy. If a chair is unattended for more than 30 min., the items on the chair can be removed. I wish all cruise lines would do that.

Cruise on this ship 3 yeas ago to Alaska. We stayed in the penthouse and even that couldn’t make up for the poor food. We tried the Lido buffet and it seemed all the food was brown. Lots of gravy. Terrible. We ht some rough seas in the Queen Charlotte sound and it was like they didn’t have the stabilizers out. Several of the passengers were sea sick and the waves didn’t look that high. Prior to this, we sailed on the Zuiderdam and it was wonderful. Have never been back!
Why not a pic of the actual room one would stay/sleep in. It is odd that they are never shown. This is what my decision to book a cruise is the room accomadations.
Going on a trip soon, the ship is beautiful but HAL call center has dropped my calls when they don't have a solution or else put you on hold and forget about you. Very disappointed that they believe how their guests should be treated. Also notice their website is not particularly helpful.
Sailed the Eurodam last Sept. on Hawaiian cruise. State room carpet was filthy with dirty spots all over the room. Crew was in training and got meals wrong not being unable to understand us. Asked for coffee and got tea. Table service was very long sometimes not getting our food till late then missing the nightly show. Complaints on board helped some but complaint or constructive criticism to Holland America went completely ignored. Holland America not living up to good standards for customer satisfaction.

We love Holland America. You really don’t see the lower element of society on their ships, which makes for a great cruise. You’re not getting all the loud ghetto, disrespectful low class oxygen thieves and drunks, out of control partiers like some other cruise lines (carnival) that end up ruining EVERYONES cruise experience.
