  • We started the process of full renovation.
Having removed the fiberglass, we saw that the wooden frame had rotted in some places or was in very poor condition, the area where there were many external boxes that were leaking and the frame was under load from batteries was especially affected.
After inspecting the frame, it became clear that according to the project, the supporting structure does not contain studs at all, it was decided to add stud in the most affected place in order to tie the roof and floor of the motor home together and thus level the wall, which had a fair bend.
It was necessary to strip the old plywood from insulation, a very monotonous and difficult process.
All new elements of the wooden frame were adjusted in place, glued with construction glue and screwed on.
The box in the most damaged place was deformed to such an extent that it was necessary to lift it and install it in its original location.
They also installed additional blocks and tied together separate boxes for greater strength, which was not done at the factory.
More than half of the ruff rafters on the right side were rotten and it was necessary to add them and fix them in new places, and everything was also glued on construction glue and screwed on.
The top plate was also rotten and had to be replaced. We also added a flashing between the rafters for the subsequent fastening of the new plywood from the inside and additional firmly.
Replaced all damaged wood where needed, especially around doors and windows.
Also, to strengthen the fastening of roof rails that were attached to only one layer of plywood, blocks of another layer of plywood were added between the rafters. Also on glue and screwed on with screws.
Looking ahead, I want to say that about 30 tubes of building glue were used.
Long GRK construction screws had to be used in order to pull the wall to the roof and glue it evenly together. Ordinary screws of this length did not cope with this task.
We did not plan to redo the front part of the right wall, but after opening a piece of fiberglass it became clear that we could not leave it in this condition, this part was also completely restored.
One of the most difficult and physically hard tasks was to clean the fiberglass from the old plywood. To do this, we determined that it is better to pre-wet and work when the plywood is soaked.
We also covered extra holes in fiberglass with glue and fiberglass mats, we knew that it was better to do this with a two-component epoxy glue, as well as all gluing fiberglass to plywood, but unfortunately we restored the old surface and they were very uneven, therefore the epoxy resin on such heat weather would simply drain and we would hardly have achieved a positive result.
The first attempt to glue fiberglass to plywood failed. The main reasons were heat weather (the glue dried very quickly) and a very large leveling, pressing surface.
For the second attempt, we made a temporary table on the ground as well as a small temporary tent. This allowed us to remove bumps and extend the drying time of the glue.
Leaving for the night, we covered everything with a poly and, of course, there was heavy rain at night, as always it doesn’t happen easily. We arrived and saw that the water got on the plywood and the evaporation of water under our temporary table also did not bode well. We all dried out and were lucky that there was no plywood delamination.
Having aligned and fastened the entire wooden frame, we could already proceed with the installation of the outer fragment of our right wall.
We applied the required amount of construction glue and pressed the outer part of the wall wherever possible. Left to dry overnight.
With the unnecessary plywood trimmed and all the windows and doors fitted, we proceeded to install everything that had been removed, and thus the final fixing of the outer element of our wall. We have used over 2000 new screws, replacing the old ones.
Having completed one of the most important stages of the repair of our motor home, we installed our road talisman - the Demigod of the Seas))
Stay tuned as we continue this restoration journey, uncovering the motorhome's hidden stories and honoring its legacy.

Знаю, що ви вже подорожуєте в своєму домі на колесах, але дивлячись вже "3 серію", у мене відчуття, що закінчити це перетворення нереально😊
