When I was a young lad I would hike up to the old Hinn Logging camps. Hinn started logging in 1830 (Santa Cruz Mountains). I would dig the old artifacts and bottles from these camps and sell them. I would hike many miles up the old "Narrow Gauge" tracks and going back, later on my thirties viewing the skid paths up mountain sides which were nearly straight up and down I wondered[ at how "they" did it.It was a great honor to be with you guys... who were all in their 80's or 90's when I was 25... wow, the memories and the comradeship... Love of the woods and to have the life of [another man in your hands or vice verse... Truly Awesome!

Wow! You ole fellows were my teachers, now I am an ole logger. I climbed the last of the 12 to 16 foot diameter Reds over houses in California many times all night long during storms.Ernie Fridley was one of my mentor's (you can find him in the history books) he was 97 when I logged with him in 1984... I would love to share stories with you guys sometime.

For seven of the thirty plus years I logged I was a "Feller" This was after I was a climber for 10 years. I remember topping giants for "Jin-Poles"~ hard work pulling a 80 lb snatch block 150 feet in the air...then doing 3 or 4 at a logging pace...Felling old growth Reds, one has to be like a surgeon or it will shatter to tooth picks... What a life... I have been to the Emergency room and hospital stays more times than I can ever count. The danger is not something you can share with your wife or the guys at the bar. We always fell in teams of two...exchanging "The Letter" (in case we didnt walk out of the woods), every morning... you know what I mean....
