I was 19 , hanging out in Greenwich Village. Loved the heavy smell of incense. On my way to Woodstock. Saw Ritchie Havens do "FREEDOM" . Waited 3 days to see Hendrix. GOOD TIMES. Stores and head shops open 24 hours a day.
Great research! I just came back from New York and visited some of those places. I wish I had seen your video first because I would have visited even more. Top notch!
I was last there in 2009, as a huge Dylan freak since the Freewheelin album I just had to get to the Village. We had breakfast opposite a little park, I thought we were on Macdougal St. Got pictures of Cafe Wha and The Bitter End. Made my holiday from UK to Dylan land so worthwhile. Thanks for a lovely little tour.
We are so glad you enjoyed watching our Dylan walking tour Michael! Perhaps the little park you had breakfast at was at the end of Minetta Lane just off of MacDougal Street. There is also a little park at the end of Bleecker Street not too far from Cornelia and W4th Street
Nice video, well done, but damn you cover the area like it was ancient history! Oh, okay, yeah I'm 72 and during 1969-72 McDougal street was my favorite street to hang out on. So yeah, it's now been fifty years and I'm getting old. I rarely went into The Cafe Wa as I couldn't afford it, and the Bitter End wasn't cheap either. But I liked Figeros, the Feen Jon and a diner over on 6thg avenue. I remember a group of friends all wanted to go down to Dylan's home on his birthday and I declined because I didn't think it was right to bother him. Turned out he wasn't home he was in Israel or someplace like that. Nice to see the area is cleaner now, does it still smell like wet newspaper and dog poop?
Thank you so much New Walker! Greenwich Village definitely is beautiful and also is rich with history. We hope you also enjoy watching some of our other videos highlighting the neighborhood.
Thank you so much Francoise! We are glad that you enjoyed watching our special Bob Dylan walking tour of the Village! Thank you again for the wonderful feedback.
Hope everyone can JOIN US for a LIVE CHAT during this premiere! We are happy to answer any questions you may have. There are some other spots associated with Bob Dylan in NYC which we did not visit so please let us know if you would like to see more of this kind of special walking tour!
Emma thank you so much for the love 💗 for Hudson who sends big kisses to you! We hope you also enjoy watching some of our videos highlighting unique places in NYC and beyond as we most often bring Hudson along with us!
SO much fun...thanks for telling me about this vid! Music tidbit: my father was guitar great George Barnes, who recorded under his own name, as well as with many other notable artists, including Bob Dylan, on his "Freewheelin'" album...which was recorded uptown from his Greenwich Village digs at Columbia's famed Studio A at 799 7th Avenue...before it became the equally famous A&R Recording, co-owned by one of my godfathers, engineer and producer, Phil Ramone. Cheers to you both and Hudson!
Wow you have such an amazing musical 🎶 family with so many ties to NYC! You mentioned you performed at The Bitter End...are you a singer/songwriter too? We are so glad you discovered our channel and have been enjoying watching our videos. We would love for you to share them with friends and family you also think would enjoy watching as we are trying to build support and raise awareness of the importance of unique places, especially now since so many are struggling to stay afloat during the Coronavirus pandemic shutdown.

Just saw your video and LOVED IT!! Very cool, fun, and informative. I subscribed right away. I love NYC and seeing it's celebrated history, especially where famous people lived or establishments/places they frequented. Thank you for starting my day on such a happy upbeat note! Just before the start of the Minetta Lane/Alley segment you show a large urn filled with a plant in what looks like a small fenced in park. What is it? Looks so interesting.
Thank you so much Audio Visual for the Extra Good LOVE on our video and for subscribing to our channel. We really appreciate the support and are so glad you not only enjoyed watching but also found the history of these places we visited fascinating. The little fenced in park is called Minetta Green and it is a tiny public park that is maintained by the NYC Parks Department along with help from local volunteers. The park also has an interesting history in that it is a memorial to a “not-quite-gone and not-quite-forgotten water feature of Lower Manhattan”...the Minetta Brook which once was full of small trout when Dutch colonists first settled in the area in the 1620s!
Very informative video of familiar places ; There's always some interesting tidbits that i learn from each of your videos, James and Karla..There's also a unique guitar store on Carmine St , Rick Kelly custom guitars, but not sure if Dylan patronized them. Looking forward to more videos. Thanks.. # 1 fan.
Pizza Rules we are so happy that you not only enjoyed watching but found out some interesting tidbits you did not already know. Yes we know that guitar shop too...it is very cool. Thank you again so much for the love and support!
❤the vid. It’s little known Bob wanted his name to be Dillon ( after Matt Dillon) but the guy at City Hall presumed since his name change application said he was an artist - poet the guy thought he meant to spell Dylan after Thomas.😂
Hi Karla, James, Did you know/hear of a bookstore Dylan I’m told, came regularly? The Books Record Store then run by a guy named “Izzy” (Israël)? He was a ‘Folksong specialist’...?
Hi Olga...we have heard about the shop and mentioned it in our video as it was located at 110 MacDougal Street and was called the Folklore Center. It was owned by Izzy Young but closed many years ago but we pointed out the location. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and hope you enjoyed our Bob Dylan tour around the Village.
Thank you so much Aykut! We wish we could have used Dylan music too as we have all of his albums but it is copyright protected. The breathing sound we believe may be from the thick mask James was wearing while filming but we have since purchased better ones and also are using a wireless mic system with better sound quality. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much CthrillaJ for the love! We are so glad you thought our video was cool and hope you also enjoy watching some of our other videos highlighting unique places and small businesses in NYC
When I visited on 10/2024, the tattoo parlor was upstairs where "Kettle of Fish" was, and down the stairs where the GasLight was, was not currently being used. Karla neglected to mention the Kettle of Fish.
Yes he was Christina but felt at home at White Horse Tavern as it was a working man’s bar and specifically at the time had many patrons including seafarers and longshoreman who worked at the nearby docks on the West Side along the Hudson River.
@@JamesandKarla someday I’m going to the White Horse. I’ll drink 19 cranberry juices, say, “That’s probably the record,” and then go into the bathroom and also set the record for the longest time peeing. Are you allowed to say “peeing” on the Internet?

I rermember a used clothes store in Greenwich Village 1969 called Stage 67. Had very cool clothes some used in movies for dirt cheap.

James and Karla I have shared it on FB!! And, I’ve told everyone I know how great your vids are and where to find you! Thank you for everything!
I miss New York......Badly.
Bob Dylan at least knew of a time when America was inspirational, now look what it's become.

I named my son Dylan Thomas in 1967
Very nice topic to cover! I wish the background music was Bob Dylan. Also, I couldn't understand why the breath sound is very dominant in audio.

Nobody talks about the Italian kids.
Changing his last name to Dylan had nothing to do with Dylan Thomas.
I believe it did
