I am organizing & purging one bag/spot at a time. I too struggle with finishing it in the moment but chant to myself "Don't put it down, put it AWAY!"

I do the same thing, though my mantra is “put away not down” I do that cause it sounds more positive in my brain

I hang on to way too much of the ‘maybe’ stuff and let it stack up in the spare bedroom.
I’m going to try the reverse decluttering idea. Very few of my definite keeps wind up in that room, so I’m going to try assuming that all of it needs to leave and see if I can get rid of it that way.

I love that moment when you realized you had a routine of fixing Christmas ornaments, so you'd definitely fill the picture frames at that time. The task didn’t get done now, but you can mentally check it off the list because it very likely will be done at Christmas, accordingto your routine. That just thrills me for some reason! Like a little treasure hunt. You’ll have completely forgotten about it until you open the box, and be glad you put them in there! Simple pleasures!🎄 😊❤

I am trying to force myself to do simple tasks "now" instead of putting them off till later (where they pile up). They are often something I just don't want to do; but, by putting them off, they end up cluttering up my mind and they drive me crazy in the process. Going ahead and taking care of them in the moment has really helped to reduce that ever-present silent to do list which, in turn, gives me some peace of mind. Thanks for sharing your tips. They are very helpful.

Erica, It’s nice to see that you are getting done the little jobs and tiny tidies, such as your closet bag, that get procrastinated over. Also, love that despite not really wanting to, you completed the task by putting the things you chose to keep away properly. This I am sure will be motivating to others.

I can relate. I also THOUGHT I would do an eBay store and bought so much good stuff. Didn't do it. Then, I'm the queen of organizing. All my junk was organized. In the last two years I have purged so much. Once you get used to getting rid of things, it gets easier. Do I need it? Can I buy it again? Is it taking up necessary room? I think I was on the verge of hoarding.

Great mini project! I know it’s not the focus of the video, but I would love to see a similar closet organization for you as you have for your daughter. Socks sitting out loose and wild on an open shelf would stress me out! 😂 but clear shoe boxes from the dollar store are miracle workers.

Good video. Oh yes, the bag that holds many get around to it items. Too many items with too many memory stories attached to the items are where most of us including myself get stuck holding onto the items. If I find an item in the bag then I immediately take that item to the place where it needs to go then go back to the gathering area and take another item to where it needs to go stay there rather that carrying the bag around. Some people use a box for the items then hide the box somewhere such a room or closet meaning to get the time to sort and put the items where they need to go.

I think the worst about decluttering isn't the decluttering itself, but the relocate items. Those things probably will never get a real home and just wander aimlessly through the house/apartment. So when possible put them in a bag, go through it decide once and for all if you want to
declutter it, relocate it (do it at once) or donate it. Not put it back.

I think my reaction would be to those ornaments, donate them and next time don’t buy ornaments that take work. Buy an ornament that goes directly on the tree. In a busy season of life, I like to make things as low maintenance as possible. 😊

The area I live in, bags to be recycled is taken to a store drop off location, like Walmart, or Giant. When I moved to where I live in now, I checked out my local recycling program to see how I should prep the recycled items for the recycling bin and I noticed my last area
A would take boxes such as cereal boxes and Amazon box type material, but the place I live now doesn’t, for example. This county is different than my last. It could be a project to study up on with your 10 year old as he takes on the responsibility of the new task.

I know that a bag of decluttering every day works. My daughter was using her dad's computer after he passed and she couldn't close the filing cabinet next to the desk. So, I grabbed a stack of files a tossed them in a laundry basket, then shut the drawer. With that, I made the decision and ordered Freedom Filer, a color-coded system to maintain your paper. It took an evening to set up the folders, then taking a file at a time, I sorted through the papers, tossing, shredding or recycling as I went. I found long lost and searched for documents, paperwork for long since replaced cars, stacks of paper for investments we no longer had, and tax returns that were 25 years old! In short, 12 trash bags of paper left my office! The system is easy to follow, there are additional blank labels to expand and cusby out my kitchen and more stacks of things in my office. Each day has a plan with an appointment for each. The job won't be done today, but with a plan it can be done little by little until the project is finished.
