I know it's fairly common nowadays but there's something wonderful about this being an online, self-released, pay what you want album. A concept that the original In Rainbows practically pioneered.
Without paying licensing though this isn't legal. I hope it doesn't get taken down, but it may.
@@chickenmuffin was wondering about that too - there actually seem to be quite a few cover & mashup albums i've seen on Bandcamp though, so maybe there's a loophole?
@@magicjackm The loophole is likely that Radiohead (or the label, or whatever) makes a copyright claim and then any ad revenue goes to them. Not sure how the Bandcamp link works though, unless Bandcamp has some sort of easy licensing feature (doubtful). For giving away the tracks you will need to pay at least the licensing, even if it's free. I know this because when I did my album there were some tracks by living composers and there were minimum licenses to buy to produce digital and physical media, and the crazy thing was technically the licenses had an expiry and needed to be renewed. So if you paid for 1000 licenses and they weren't used, the next year they had to be renewed, but if you went over you needed to pay more. Plus there's a processing fee, so almost none of the money paid actually goes to the artist, I think it was around $70 to licence 1000 digital licenses, and I had 10 tracks so $700. This was done through the Harry Fox Agency which would also technically be required for this project.

This VERY GOOD EFFORT has ushered in a wave of half-assed imitators that don't put anywhere near this level of consideration into their work. In this album, each song sounds like it would be a themed level, in the imitators it's just like "yeah we put these pre-existing midis in the Mario sound font that's what you want right?!". They don't have the friggin' soul.
This is peak millenial introversion. And I'm all here for it!

You have to listen to the "ok computer" cover made with only voice. Another great cover.

I cannot express enough how I feel about Nude. In every format it just sounds so ethereal that it makes me tear up everytime it's on. For me, the best RH song, and that's hard already to pick one song from their vast and perfect sounding catalogue
it’s either my 5th or 6th fav song from In Rainbows but i still think it’s a 10/10 song. that shows just how good the album is
Just finished listening to it on bandcamp. Fanastic from beginning to end. Really creative and resourceful use of the sounds.
Goes way beyond the novelty factor and is genuinely very nice to listen to. My favorite track here is probably All I Need. Really lovely when everything comes together at the end.

english isn't my native language and i've been struggling with the meaning of the word "novelty" for a while. i think it means the quality of being new but i always see it being used with a negative manner. why is that?
@@nihilitys “Novelty” can mean that something is only valuable so long as it is new; when novelty “wears off” the object described is no longer interesting, and people will move onto the next novelty. I hope I managed to explain that in a way that makes sense!

@@user-vi4xy1jw7e I enjoyed Mario 64 well enough but I was always a much bigger fan of Banjo-Kazooie when it came to N64 3D platformers. And Radiohead has never been my cup of tea.
The effect this soundfont has on Videotape in-particular is transformative. Such a quiet, somber song is now strangely but endearingly upbeat and memorable in its own right. It's almost like a new song entirely.
It’s a great mix, but I think I’ve got great news for you. Prior to the album Radiohead road tested the song in a much more upbeat rearrangement. Look up “Videotape Bonnaroo 2006” if you wanna hear it

This version emphasizes the syncopated nature of the main chord hits, something they chose to strip away for the studio version.
There's like a million different versions of videotape and each one draws a different tone out of the song. Crazy how this one is no exception

On its surface, it seems like something that could've just been a little throwaway novelty project worth a quick scrobble through to hear a couple bits and move on, but there is such a genuine appreciation for both halves of the source material, that makes it more than just an amalgamation of two pieces of media - it really is an engaging listen. Listening to Nude for the first time and gosh i got chills. I thought there was no way for this to equal the original, but that little flute melody thing is so quite and subtle. It hits different, but the effect is the same. Great job

My favorite part of your covers are how transformative they are. You embody the spirit of the songs well but emphasize different aspects of their composition. You accent different parts and de-emphasize others while still remaining aesthetically cohesive. Love it!

I remember listening to this album in 2007 while having to ride a bus with the high school band to Washington DC. It was 11 pm on a highway somewhere in North Indiana. It gave my chills and In Rainbows is my favorite Radiohead album!

Mario 64 soundfont really suits Radiohead because they share that same sense of liminal paranoia, claustrophobia and isolation - and a beautiful strangeness.
