HERES SOME TIPS SINCE I CAN'T MAKE A NEW VIDEO BEFORE ARTFIGHT STARTS THIS YEAR
OKAY YEAH i dont think im going to be able to make a video in time because there is a pretty big thunderstorm happening RIGHT here right now and if i record anything it's gonna be 90% thunder noises (and i should probably shouldn't be on the computer when there's no gap between the lightning and the thunder?)
ANYWAY if I do finish a video here's the big points I wanna go over:
1: Artfight is usually pretty slow the first few days! If you can download a few character references you KNOW you want to start on the first day, doing that now isn't a bad idea. And if you can get your characters up now, that is super helpful, but if you can't, don't stress out too much, take it slow, and just be ready for that slowness.
1.1: For the first week, I do recommend joining the artfight discord for updates on when stuff gets updated if that's your kind of thing! You can also find characters that way!
2: If you have issues with (Still) images being too big, first, make sure you're uploading a .png or .jpeg, and not like, a clip studio paint file, procreate file, etc, and if that is the case, the easiest way to fix that is to either decrease the dpi (if you default to like, 300-600 like I do) or to decrease the overall resolution (So if your picture is 2000x2000, lowering that to 1080x1080 or lower will keep it looking crisp, and make it load faster for everyone).
2.1: If you're still having issues, and you can't make it any smaller without serious issues, AND it's a png (and not transparent), try converting it to a jpeg, jpegs are generally a smaller file size than pngs! (If you are still having issues with size, let me know. I've uploaded stuff on neopets which has like, a 1mb file size limit and I am happy to go through the stuff I do to get stuff on there)
3: Tags are a brand new feature that you can use to find types of characters more easily, or find other characters way more easily! If you go to edit a character's page (or create a new one) the options are all there, I'd recommend adding what kinda creature they are (if they're a robot, a human, a furry, maybe what species they are, if they're a fancharacter for a particular series). It's not needed but it can be super handy!
4: You can also find characters by doing the "Random character" or "Random user" options, checking out the characters of people you follow/that follow you, or just check out the characters featured on the front page! I recommend trying to find characters/users that haven't gotten attacked much just because it's cool to be the first person to attack!
5: It's never too late to join artfight! If you can't join when it starts, you can really play any time of the month. If you do miss it, I know the discord runs mini-games that are similar throughout the year, though I've never had a chance to do it myself.
6: There's also no "minimum" level of experience to play! If you are a beginner in artfight, I 100% recommend it! It's a great way to learn, and is just really fun overall! (Also, if it is your first artfight, or if you're new, reply to this! I'll try to do a little something for everyone I can!)

Ah, the artfight servers are probably a bit funky right now! More people joined than expected, so the servers have been pretty slow (Though I hear they're going to add a few days to account for this!) It might be good to try later today :O

i come back to this every year and its so helpful! i didnt participate in 2021, but i did last year and im doing it again this year so its good to brush up with this video considering im horrible with oc ref sheets😅
aaaaa i'm so glad i can help out ;w; i hope you have a good art fight this year too, I'm doing it as well! (though might be lighter on how many attacks i do, i'm in a few art projects and wanna get those in good spots but i WILL do some attacks)

How do you make everything so crisp and clean when uploading…..it keeps telling me my files are too big but I’m not using a huge canvas or anything
Hmm- what's the file resolution and type you're uploading?
I've been trying to upload my reference sheets on artfight but It says that the Canvas Is too big, I already read the comment from a year ago where you explained how to do It, but I use procreate so It's a Little hard to understand what to do. It would be a shame to have to give up for this year Just because I can't figure out how to upload stuff oof
I'm not 1000% sure how helpful this advice would be since I don't use procreate, but I THINK if you click on the wrench to open the action tab, and click on the crop and resize button, there is something in the settings called "Resample Canvas" which will let you change the dimensions
You can use resizeimage.net/ to resize your images outside of procreate!
I draw on a pretty big canvas, so it never accepts the files. I don't know what to do
I definitely understand that- if you mean when putting on artfight, what I would recommend is reducing the size of the canvas right before you export it as a .png. Here's the steps I usually go with huge file sizes:
(Most of these instructions are for clip studio paint, if something doesn't make sense, let me know)
-I usually work at at least 2000x2000px with 350 dpi, but I'll change the file size to 1080px width (And get the height to whatever is proportional so it doesn't look squished)
-If it's still too large, you can reduce the dpi to 72 (Since that only affects printing and will look the same on your screen, but will make the file size way smaller. But be careful if you're using clip studio paint, by default, it will try to change the scale too, so just make sure to keep the scale the same)
-If it's still too large even after this, you can either make the picture smaller (800px is the lowest I'd go personally)
-OR export it as a .jpeg/.jpg, since .jpegs are a smaller filesize (And you can adjust the "quality" setting, which will reduce the size even more, but also make the picture lower in quality/make the colors kinda weird and blocky, so be careful. This is usually my last resort if I'm really struggling with file sizes)

Hi! I'd like to know if you necessarily need a computer to upload your drawings to ArtFight (I can't do that from my phone...)
Hey! It might depend on your phone/browser, it looks like I can do it from my phone, but I am on android and using mobile Firefox as my browser, if you're on iPhone, you might need something else to upload on? (I remember iPhones not working nicely with file uploading on websites last time I used one)
