Most epic level in the game hands down, especially once you reach to a certain level of skill with / mastery of the game… I didn’t realize the old cartridges cap out at 511, my record on this level was 495 or so. The voice acting in this game really has held up so impressively well with time, and the dialogue is a major contributor to the hectic, desperate, “go for broke” mood of the level - and I’d forgotten how foreboding Andross was here… Area 6 - the tension, drama & chaos all reach a peak here, one of the most intense experiences getting good at blasting my way through the waves of enemies at age 11-12. Might be, I totally love Starfox 64 but on a critical close look it might give some hints on the capabilities and limitations of the N64. When Slippy croaked, "Venom's right there!", then use the boost to speed up and shoot down the butterfly shaped enemy fighter with one or two shots to save Slippy from going to the Great Fox docking bay for the rest of the game. Peppy will tell you the weakness of the boss enemy, and Slippy will display the enemy's shield gauge which appear on the left side of the screen. Falco is not a big problem as with Peppy and Slippy.
Oh. I always just shot the hell out of everything and everyone was fine; to me getting 500+ points was average and it was 600+ that took some actual effort. But I also tend to double bomb the space bombs so maybe that helps? Then again, I also play for point runs and not medal runs.

I'll never forget the thrill when I reached this stage for the first time. My hands and t-shirt all sweat, making me loose the grip of the controller. Then again the same feeling when reaching this stage at Expert Mode.
Caiman: Caiman here, no problems. *2 seconds later* Caiman: do you copy? Emergency maneuvers!” Lmao he was definitely getting fired if he ended up surviving
Love how authentic this run is. It's not some tryhard gamer who knows every detail about the level. Just someone genuinely going through the enemy lines nearly failing at some points 1 shot away from death. Awesome run
Area 6 is 7 minutes of video game perfection. The epic music, the cheesy voice acting, the huge swarms of enemies, the overwhelming sense of urgency, your thumb catching on fire from tapping the A button too fucking much, This is gaming at its finest.
You know, if you hold down A your ship actually shoots twice before doing the charged laser. With some practice and timing you can effectively fire twice with each button press, resulting in almost turbo firing speeds with little effort!
It is the best to use one of the smart bomb to destroy the butterfly shaped enemy fighter who is chasing Slippy, and your job is to save Slippy from leaving Area 6 as well as the remaining of the game without Slippy. Remember smart bombs can destroy all the enemies on the screen for big points, but it will not harm Slippy from further damage, and to save Slippy from retirement for the remaining of the game. I don't want to see it happen.
Even in Corridor Mode as well as All-Range Mode, Falco quoted, "Get out of my way!" By hitting Star Fox's ship, even shortly saving Slippy's ship from a butterfly shaped enemy fighter who is chasing Slippy from the right of the screen and save Slippy from his doom.
Seeing both Caiman and the Commander become increasingly desperate since they were literally throwing EVERYTHING they had at Star Fox and NOTHING worked. Even Andross realizes at this point they're no joke, tapping into their distress call system to taunt and unnerve Fox.
I could have gotten a medal in Area 6 and I scored about 360 points if I could save Peppy by destroying dozen of missiles who is on his tail. I have collected 13 medals out of 15 missions. The other only mission I did not get a medal is Sector Z. I can managed to get most medals on hard missions, such as Katina, Venom 2, Titania, and Solar. Sector Y, Aquas, Zoness, and Bolse are not nearly as hard to get these medals. Corneria, Meteo, Fortuna, Sector X, and Macbeth are easy to earn medals in Star Fox 64, as long as Peppy, Slippy, and Falco do survived when completing these missions.
Best level in the game imo It’s just so chaotic since you’re basically flying through Venom’s entire fleet. And, it actually feels like you’re a team now, with Great Fox taking down Destroyers for you, everybody working together to take down a battleship, it’s just so good. And let’s not forget how you can HEAR them get more and more panicked as they realize your four fighters are taking down their entire fleet. Starting with just a stoic “they’ve broken through the first line” Then, you can hear Caiman a but surprised and starting to panic with “they’re through the second line!” And now other guy is panicking, saying “FIRE! FIRE! Don’t let em through!” And finally, “THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN BREACHED!” And then resorting to deploying the Gorgon This is peak Star Fox, change my mind
This game had such an incredible panache for cinematics. The level starting with the droning of the planes and caiman saying "no problems" is legendary.
Of all the games I played when I was a kid this level always sticks in my mind. The game builds to this great crescendo of craziness in this level before one final confrontation with Star Wolf and then the calm determination of Fox going to face Andross alone. Obviously this doesn't have the same sophistication story-wise of many higher brow games but the pacing is incredibly and for a family friendly game it is really quite stirring as it comes to a close.
The best level by far, the music, the adrenaline, they underestimated Star Fox, they got scared as Fox and Co. battled thru Area 6 and Andross taunting them, its amazing!!
Totally awesome area. I wonder if it was tough for the N64 to handle it, a lot of people might not realize just what they were dealing with on it back then.
@Carls493 What makes it Completely Medium is Katina, Solar, & Macbeth. All you have to do is just get a Mission Complete on Sector Y & then get Mission Accomplished on the other 5 Missions
Such a great level... just recently finished medium route today. Last time I tried I died at this level (probably due to the fact that my head was unable to concentrate properly due to bad mood), today I was in better mood, retried & did so good . It was tough, but I made it through & got the good ending. I realized that I needed a few more bombs (Especially for that minefield part) & needed to use a few more charge shots. Also I was concentrating a bit too much on destroying those top-like things & other such big ships thus I failed to concentrate on other enemies. Now I have a score of 227 on that level with all crewma- I mean teammates surviving, but this was just a 2nd attempt, still I reached Gorgon with the shield gauge nearly empty & made it to Venom 2. It was tough, I got only 1 supply ring throughout the battle, got a bit damaged by the beam (I forgot to barrel roll before I got hit, Peppy must be feeling ashamed of me) but I survived the hit & kept attacking & finally defeated one of the most difficult SF64 bosses with almost no health. Still, the level is EPIC! Even ROB64 helped us by shooting down big ships using the Great Fox! ENEMIES EVERYWHERE YEAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Caiman & his colleagues were panicking with you crossing each defense line, then near the end Andross contacted you & tried to taunt & threaten you! And of course Gorgon beign a difficult but fun boss in the end. The only thing left was Bill or Katt getting involved depending on whether you go through Katina or Zoness.
My least favorite levels in Star Fox 64 are: Sector Z and Area 6, since the only two levels I have not gotten a medals yet. I rated Venom 2 a so-so, even I already got a medal in this hard level, which identifies by a red arrow as shown on the map. Area 6 is tough because the enemies are shooting lasers at me and I have to do the barrel rolls almost all the time constantly and takes Peppy's advice to do it. The worst part is to lose Peppy by having numerous missiles who are chasing him, and losing Slippy by only one butterfly shaped enemy fighter who is chasing Slippy on the right of the screen. You can use booster, and lock on that enemy that is chasing Slippy and use one bomb to destroy all the enemies, including the butterfly shaped enemy fighter for a mass of points for needed for a tough medal in this level. Remember that destroy only enemies on the screen, but it is harmless to allies, such as Slippy and he will not taking any damage when using a smart bomb. I am planning to go for the 14th medal and would have been too. Sector Z is another level for the medal too, but it is the hardest medal to get for this entire game. I have gotten medal on these tough levels like Katina, Titania, and Venom 2 and I did.
Area 6 is my favorite Mission because it has great music and as you push on towards Venom Air attack zone to Venom there's a huge fleet of destroyers cruisers and fighters heading you're way so you'll need a load of bombs to take them on and there's Andross henchmen who observe the fight and freak out as you get through although at some parts of if you answer the Great Fox they'll provide cover for you as ships are heading your way also Andross will call you and taunt you as you get closer To Venom each defense line gets stronger everytime with more ships power ups and more and then you take on big carrier ships and more waves of ships and then you take on Gorgon the last defense of Venom Attack Air Zone also the strongest which was tough to beat for me when i was a kid but the level was a load of fun and then you proceed to Venom to face off the real Andross and save the Lylat System once and for all
I like how Andross already starts taunting you here but youre not even at Venom yet. It's like he's getting nervous you're piercing through his best forces where's in the Easy route, Andross doesn't say anything until the pyramid boss in Venom because he sees you're not capable of handling his best forces and instead, throws his weaker secondaries at you.

Falco: "Hey genius, I'm on your side."
Falco: "Don't let me go after you Fox!"
Falco: "You're making me angry, Fox!"
Peppy: "Knock it off Fox!
Peppy: "It's me, Peppy, Fox."
Peppy: "You're making me nervous Fox!"
I'll never forget the thrill when I reached this stage for the first time. My hands and t-shirt all sweat, making me loose the grip of the controller. Then again the same feeling when reaching this stage at Expert Mode.
3:28 is AWESOME!!!! THAT'S TEAM WORK!!!!!!
Caiman: Caiman here, no problems.
*2 seconds later*
Caiman: do you copy? Emergency maneuvers!”
Lmao he was definitely getting fired if he ended up surviving
Falco: Too late! Game over, pal!
Fox: The party’s on, boys! Here we go!
Next stop: Bag my groceries or flip some burgers.
Love how authentic this run is. It's not some tryhard gamer who knows every detail about the level. Just someone genuinely going through the enemy lines nearly failing at some points 1 shot away from death. Awesome run
This is insane and intense af when you think about it.
Area 6 is 7 minutes of video game perfection. The epic music, the cheesy voice acting, the huge swarms of enemies, the overwhelming sense of urgency, your thumb catching on fire from tapping the A button too fucking much,
This is gaming at its finest.
THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN BREACHED!!!
These guys are *CRAZY!!!!*
Dang! DEPLOY IT NOW!
Enemy ahead! This one's different!
Crud! We were so close to Venom!
YEAH! It's working!
That death ray from boss is absolute terror!! lol but I always held bottom corner scot-free no need to dance around it
A lot of button mashing this stage requires.
You know, if you hold down A your ship actually shoots twice before doing the charged laser. With some practice and timing you can effectively fire twice with each button press, resulting in almost turbo firing speeds with little effort!
@@DisemboweII I didn't know that actually! That's crazy. I need to do another medal playthrough for Star Fox 64.
Use a turbo controller
@GoogleMapsTablet That would be the smart thing to do! It'll take away the fun though 😂😂😂
1:31 "STOP SHOOTING FALCO!"
I don't want to see it happen.
voice acting here is so much better than the 3ds version, loved this when I was a kid. still holds up perfectly
Geez after all these years I can still quote this game word for word, lol
Best level in the game imo
It’s just so chaotic since you’re basically flying through Venom’s entire fleet. And, it actually feels like you’re a team now, with Great Fox taking down Destroyers for you, everybody working together to take down a battleship, it’s just so good.
And let’s not forget how you can HEAR them get more and more panicked as they realize your four fighters are taking down their entire fleet.
Starting with just a stoic “they’ve broken through the first line”
Then, you can hear Caiman a but surprised and starting to panic with “they’re through the second line!”
And now other guy is panicking, saying “FIRE! FIRE! Don’t let em through!”
And finally, “THE LAST LINE HAS BEEN BREACHED!”
And then resorting to deploying the Gorgon
This is peak Star Fox, change my mind
This game had such an incredible panache for cinematics. The level starting with the droning of the planes and caiman saying "no problems" is legendary.
Of all the games I played when I was a kid this level always sticks in my mind. The game builds to this great crescendo of craziness in this level before one final confrontation with Star Wolf and then the calm determination of Fox going to face Andross alone. Obviously this doesn't have the same sophistication story-wise of many higher brow games but the pacing is incredibly and for a family friendly game it is really quite stirring as it comes to a close.
An intense and hard stage, but the music and chaos always has me coming back.
“Caiman here, no problems.”
But there was a problem.
"Do you copy? Emergency maneuvers!"
"Too late! Game over, pal!"
To this day even though I know it's good luck, I hear report every time
I still have on my memory every single line on this level ... "This guys are crazy!"
I love this path. Boldly they rode and well, into the jaws of death. Into the mouth of hell.
Man this level have action in everywhere, amazing
Admit it, y’all. You felt like if you were one of the Boys.
My favorite stage.
Bro, do you even barrel roll
The best level by far, the music, the adrenaline, they underestimated Star Fox, they got scared as Fox and Co. battled thru Area 6 and Andross taunting them, its amazing!!
"These guys are crazy" is both a fear and a compliment
2:49 top tier power-up
Totally awesome area. I wonder if it was tough for the N64 to handle it, a lot of people might not realize just what they were dealing with on it back then.
Best mission in the game. And such a target rich environment-- easily 500+ points to be earned here.
@Carls493
What makes it Completely Medium is Katina, Solar, & Macbeth.
All you have to do is just get a Mission Complete on Sector Y
& then get Mission Accomplished on the other 5 Missions
Best briefing before the level
Damn even rob the robot got him some action .
Andross is talking a lot of crap, but if Star Fox can get to his base I'm sure the coronaria navy could
Such a great level... just recently finished medium route today.
I think it's absolutely hilarious that Venom's most heavily defended area gets utterly dismantled in roughly six minutes.
''FIRE, FIRE, DON'T LET THEM THROUGH'' - if the adrenaline wasn't rushing by now, it surely is after this.
My thumbs ached in remembrance of trying to get the medal for this stage AND shooting at that core 😆
2:27: THØSË TĮN ČÅNS ÀRÉ NÖ MÄTÇH FŌR MĖ
"Destroy all three energy balls"
Okay, that didn't sound right...
Hands down the best level of the entire Star Fox series
“Too late, game over pal.” Still fires me up.
I loved this game, Wave Race and Pilotwings. I need to get a 64 and those games. I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of great games.
Awesome! Idk why u didn't spin to dodge them attacks, but good memories :)
My favorite Star Fox 64 stage
If only this was expert mode. If it was he would have lost his wings when he hit the spaceship
2:19
Andross on line one.
Anyone ever try to go though all the warp portals in first person? I tried but dont think it's possible.
I love when Skippy yells “Ahhhhhh!” 😂
You know when you use the nova blast on the core, the explosion cause the explosion to become more dramatic and cause more effects.
Definitely the best mission in the game.
When I played this as a kid it annoyed the hell out of him. He kept on rooting for me to shoot down Falco, honestly I listened to him.
I love the voices
Best acting by slippy when he wasn’t hit at all 😆
Area 6 is my favorite Mission because it has great music and as you push on towards Venom Air attack zone to Venom there's a huge fleet of destroyers cruisers and fighters heading you're way so you'll need a load of bombs to take them on and there's Andross henchmen who observe the fight and freak out as you get through although at some parts of if you answer the Great Fox they'll provide cover for you as ships are heading your way also Andross will call you and taunt you as you get closer To Venom each defense line gets stronger everytime with more ships power ups and more and then you take on big carrier ships and more waves of ships and then you take on Gorgon the last defense of Venom Attack Air Zone also the strongest which was tough to beat for me when i was a kid but the level was a load of fun and then you proceed to Venom to face off the real Andross and save the Lylat System once and for all
remember watching my older brother beating this level like a god
I'm that type of older brother lol
I like how Andross already starts taunting you here but youre not even at Venom yet. It's like he's getting nervous you're piercing through his best forces where's in the Easy route, Andross doesn't say anything until the pyramid boss in Venom because he sees you're not capable of handling his best forces and instead, throws his weaker secondaries at you.
Were entering imperial airspaces Sylvens Fire your Shots at everything COME IN
