I always thought it was insane when fox’s father says “trust your instincts” just like how Peppy had been telling him the whole game. Peppy was almost like a father figure to Fox in my eyes.
@Don Vergonio You’re just mad that he’s right. I like to believe that Peppy is repeating what Fox’s father, James, usually said when they went on missions together.
@Toonlink102 I know, right? It's almost as if it were part of a cutscene. Gotta hand it to the voice actor for Andrew, though, that was a very convincing scream of terror.
The moment you complete this game, you are greeted with the most beautiful sounding victory fanfare and this stunning visual of your plane escaping just barely on the outer edge of this explosion. One of the most rewarding moments of victory the N64 had to offer. Right before they break your heart again with Fox's dad disappearing into the ether.
@@billny33 man, watching this game again as an adult, and a more mature gamer who has played so much more games since the N64 era, its pretty amazing to see how far ahead of time this game was. It was probably one of the most cinematic games on the n64. The camera angles, the little details like the one you mentioned, etc.
@KEEGAN MACKEY But If you look at James' arwing at 7:29, you can see it desintegrate into the sky and the flame goes out right away... With that said, my theory is that James' ghost (supported by the fact you can't get close enough to make contact with his arwing and shooting it does nothing) returned to Venom to guide Fox from certain death following Andross' self-destruction of himself and his lair, and upon seeing that Fox's mission was successful, James knew that Fox could handle anything on his own, and so James could finally depart to the afterlife. But that's just my theory.
I was thinking the same....credit music has something about it that makes you feel hopeful, optimistic....endings like those no longer exist or come close
7:17 (ಥ﹏ಥ) I've always interpreted "I'll go it alone from here." as Fox giving up, as if he knew he could complete the mission, but never intended to make it out alive. I read it this way because the first line we hear from James is "Don't ever *give up* my son." My take on is also that James McCloud is truly dead, and he's not a ghost in this moment either. The James we see in Venom is literally just a visual manifestation of Fox's "instincts". And that last line that James says is about the difference between James and Fox. See Fox never talks about his dad the entire time, even if Peppy brings him up a lot. It's as if he doesn't want to compare himself to someone he thinks he can never live up to. But when the music cuts out and the last line is said, it's Fox coming to terms with the fact that his father would have been proud to know that his son was better than him. I don't care what the sequels or the reboots try to tell me what James really is, this has always been the interpretation of the story that had the most meaning and impact to me.
My Dad bought this game for me when I was just a kid. I only got to see him twice a week since my parents were separated. I can vividly remember hanging out at his house and beating this game, many times. I always loved the ending. I lost my Dad just over 6 months ago to cancer. It hasn't been easy. I cried when his father said "You've become so strong fox." not because I beat the game but because fox finally saw his father again. After so long. It made me think about my dad. And how important he is to me. Well that applies to my family but my dad was for that moment.
One of my favorite touches they added was that Peppy and James were part of the original Star Fox team and throughout the game Peppy mentions Fox's dad in memory. But every so often Peppy says Never Give Up Trust Your Instincts. And then you get to the true ending with James and he says the same thing when guiding you. Which basically implies Peppy has been giving the same advice Jame's had been giving to them before his demise. I fucking love video games.

At 11:05, I was Expecting Those four to be Wolf, Leon, Pigma and Andrew on Venom, Arguing with each other, Running for Transportation After Their Defeat
I never forget the feeling i had first time playing this. It was so intense. Even the way getting there. Area 6, the whole hard route even, was amazing. It had the game for months till i finally figured how to get to sector y from corneria. The final level was so awesome. I just sat there my jaw dropped my siblings watched in awe and then this awesome moment - took me severa lives tho Dont ever give up my son... Technically cou can reach that pretty fast but overall it took me really lomg to get there. And then the game keept getting better and better. All medals, then the hard mode, and all medals there. Unlocked everything for Battlemode and a different starting screen. One of my Favorit games.
I used to be at the game when I was a kid doing easy mode and fighting Starwolf before medium mode and hard mode, including expert mode... The expert mode was intense. Before and after I met Bill and Katt It's called a run into characters, and the best part right here where Fox and his team be running by the sun with credits 11:03 - 11:47 And the great fox comes right up
Ahh.....childhood memories. *Loved* this game as a kid and beat it *countless* times. And I always really appreciated the ending, as I couldn't often but feel like I'd just gone on an epic journey worthy of the ages. Truly, this was one of *the* great masterpieces of '90s gaming. =)
Anyone notice how the entire team is running at the end? Like maybe their positions are symbolic of how skilled each pilot is? Slippy being dead last but putting in more effort than the rest of the team just to keep up, peppy not as much effort as slippy but just behind falco, falco seems to be putting in as much effort as fox but is still behind him because fox is easily the most skilled out of all of them, and the team leader.
8:11 There is a "star" which moves from the left to the right. (Between the Great Fox left wing and the Star Fox logo, and it's hard to notice). Surprise!
I remember... just for kicks, my older brother made it to this level all by himself without Falco, Slippy, or Peppy. He took on Star Wolf single handedly and then when Fox says, "I'll go it alone from here!" We were all like... You are alone... XD
You can dispose of Star Wolf team even faster. When they make their entry, push start and you can cut the cutscene, and with your bombs attack them when they're just descending. Their shields can't deflect the damage of the bombs, and you can easily destroy 2 of them or at least weak them enough.
+ro32643 Bombing Andross's mouth whilst he's sucking up those space rocks is more satisfying though as seen in the video tbh. (Seriously, didn't know that and it'd make my whole runs easier)
When Peppy asked, "What's wrong Fox?" You can tell that Fox was looking for his father but could've been a ghost figure or something. It makes me appreciate my dad a lot more after watching that part.
Prone W I know, right, also, in Star fox Zero Ending Spoilers: view at you own risk. I love how they set it up so you think you just imagined James, as was implied here, then suddenly: Andross: Curse you James! WHY WON'T YOU STAY DEAD?!

10:42 RIP Rick May, the voice of Peppy Hare! Keep on doing a barrel roll up in the skies!
This game brings back so much nostalgia.
Man.. the nostalgic hearing everything in the game sure brings back those late summer nights playing Star Fox 64
This final battle and all the ending with music and script always give me goosebumps and teared eyes.
Well this is just a masterpiece. I could cry watching this.
idk y but 7:29 always makes me tear up a little. the feels.
Don’t ever give up, my son.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
*FOX:* ?! ...Father?!?
@@lancecurry7538 Follow me, Fox.
Was going to get star fox: zero, but decided to play this again instead.
I think I made the right decision.
You're missing out, man.
+Isaac Platt (PUNCHFACE) it's litterrally the same game.
lol, someone hasn't played zero
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP obviously someone hasn't played it
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP then you'd have to be an idiot to see it as the same as star fox 64
"You've become so strong Fox." Still gives me goosebumps.
07:29 and 08:16 I Never get tired or "too old" for this epic song. in my humble opinion the VERY best Video game soundtrack EVER. There is nothing that can beat this... the "Best" song after this can only kiss the feet of the starfox 64 outro!
I remember this.
It makes me cry.
7 year old me..."I got the good ending!!!"...27 year old USMC veteran me...."You've become so strong Fox"....😥
i cried when his dad radioed in.
I cried too.
iEatTacos same here sf64 one of the best games ever
🥺😢😭🦊🫡
Beating these without fully upgraded lasers was a pain in the ass
One of nintendo's best games. Has so much of its classic charm. Great ending too.
:c Awh this makes me sad, when I was little I use to watch my brothers play games all the time, makes me remember the times when we were all together. Im totally gonna buy the 3ds version >:) and relive my memories again!
The 3DS version looks great but I don't like the voice acting :/
Otie64 Either way it has terrible voice acting. That's kind of one of the main reasons people like it. lol
Ness Garcia ur brothers were one of us(N64 fans) as kids man i miss my childhood so much
No play the 64 version cuz it's a classic
At 11:05, I was Expecting Those four to be Wolf, Leon, Pigma and Andrew on Venom, Arguing with each other, Running for Transportation After Their Defeat
Andrew: We 'Il make sure you never rea-
Fox: *OMAE WA MO SHINDERU*
Andrew: Nani?!
*blows up him*
Andrew: AHHHH!!!
Maginum 3000 AHAHAHA omg thank you for that
"We'll make sure you never reach And-"
"AAAAAAAAAAAH-"
That part got me good 😂
I never forget the feeling i had first time playing this.
It was so intense.
Even the way getting there.
Area 6, the whole hard route even, was amazing.
It had the game for months till i finally figured how to get to sector y from corneria.
The final level was so awesome.
I just sat there my jaw dropped my siblings watched in awe and then this awesome moment - took me severa lives tho
Dont ever give up my son...
Before and after I met Bill and Katt It's called a run into characters, and the best part right here where Fox and his team be running by the sun with credits 11:03 - 11:47 And the great fox comes right up
Leon:FATALITY
Pig ma:FATALITY
Andrew:FATALITY
Wolfe guy:FATALITY
Good bye Rick May. You were good son real good. Maybe even the best
Fox searching the stars always gets me...
Only thing I miss at the ending are Bill and the others
Ahh.....childhood memories. *Loved* this game as a kid and beat it *countless* times. And I always really appreciated the ending, as I couldn't often but feel like I'd just gone on an epic journey worthy of the ages. Truly, this was one of *the* great masterpieces of '90s gaming. =)
It's still a masterpiece to this day, not just the 90's. 😁
it truly was a journey
Thanks for posting this. I beat this game a bunch of times just to listen to the end-credits music. Brought back some good memories.
A great father.
“Say your prayers, Andross!”
How could you not love this game?
Sometimes Slippy said, "Fox, are you OK?"
I bet Fox and the others are heading to Sector Z to get ready for Super Smash Bros.
8:11 There is a "star" which moves from the left to the right. (Between the Great Fox left wing and the Star Fox logo, and it's hard to notice).
Surprise!
James!
I still get emotional seeing the ending god this is pure nostalgia for me.
I remember... just for kicks, my older brother made it to this level all by himself without Falco, Slippy, or Peppy. He took on Star Wolf single handedly and then when Fox says, "I'll go it alone from here!" We were all like... You are alone... XD
hahahha
"Don't ever give up my son. Follow me, Fox. This way, Fox. Never give up. Trust your instincts.
You've become so strong, Fox..."
The "nothing... nothings wrong." Gets me every time
I was transported as a kid again I still cry till this day his father saved his life 🥺😢😭😿🫡 🦊 🕶️ 🦊
You can dispose of Star Wolf team even faster.
Actually, bombs don't work on the Wolfen II's shields. You need to shoot them with normal lasers. No charge shots.
he even saved wolf for last, my soul I can tell you since I'm watching this 07/22/2021 this is that good, love you all
Who else got chills the first time they see/hear Fox's dad? What a roller coaster of emotions.
made me trip out
I always loved how the boss battle theme was playing during Fox's escape
That receipt at the end is pretty funny. Reminds me that Star Fox was hired for the job and are charging Pepper for their services.
Would you imagine an star fox movie based on this N64 story?
When Peppy asked, "What's wrong Fox?" You can tell that Fox was looking for his father but could've been a ghost figure or something. It makes me appreciate my dad a lot more after watching that part.
Prone W I know, right, also, in Star fox Zero
Ending Spoilers: view at you own risk.
I love how they set it up so you think you just imagined James, as was implied here, then suddenly:
Andross: Curse you James!
WHY WON'T YOU STAY DEAD?!
Then Fox turns his Arwing around and *fires a Charge Shot into the back of Andross's Cyborg head, BLOWING HIM THE F**K UP!!!!!*
