I met Carlos at a Bowie convention. He's one of the most remarkable people I have ever met. I'm not religeous but if Carlos had told me to shave my hair and wear an orange robe I'd have done it! He's got this amazing aura and you are just transfixed to him when he speaks. He emanates niceness.
My first experience with Alomar was when i watched Bowie and his band at the German "Musikladen" performing "Stay". There was this great guy Adrian Belew stealing the show that made my musical heart sit up and jump with joy. So much fun. And later in the song, it began to dawn on me that my joy was really coming from the great "groove" that was the basis. I started looking at Mssrs Davis, Murray and Alomar. They were more in the back. But really carrying the event! It taught me to look beyond the obvious in music. I began to explore David Bowie's albums. And slowly began to realise how Carlos Alomar was the genius in the back. And now i see the interview. What a giant!
I’m 63 and have been listening to Carlos riffs all my life and had no idea. Fame, Lust for life, Golden years, Heroe’s etc etc. Damn lol Respect 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
When I was 16 I saw Bowie at the civic Arena Pittsburg in 78 and was greeted at the gate by Dennis Davis Carlos Alomar and Simon House.during the intermission Carlos and most of the band stepped off the stage and mingled with the crowd. I wish I wasn't so shy back then...this man has always been a beacon of light and goodness is radiating from him.
Totally underrated guitarist that gets overlooked for how influential and great he’s been during his career and specially his performances with Bowie. Kind of how many people don’t talk enough about Davey Johnstone’s career with Elton John.
His comments on passion are spot on. People are not passionate about anything because they can find a new fresh piece of entertainment every 5 minutes.
One of the most fascinating music interviews that I have seen. This man has his own brand of depth. I am a Bowie fan and I listen for what all the different people brought to Bowie's sound. Bowie did not just employ people, he USED them for the benefit of the music progress. It's great to learn so much about the personality of a man who was so influential to David Bowie's sound during an era of his career. Thank you for this video.

One of THE most entertaining, informative, instructive, and illuminating music interviews I have ever heard. Carlos is soooo wonder full, humble, funny, inspiring and still, after so many years in the business, is still filled with wonder and appreciation about music and the great people involved within it. Thank you, it was such a pleasure to listen to it. I heard an interview with Ray Parker (Ghostbusters) that had a similar quality. That is, he was playing in bands since he was 14, and was earning more money than both his parents combined by the time he was 15. If you haven't already interviewed him, he would be another that brings that quality of music awareness and appreciation to the public.
Carlos has always struck me as the dictionary definition of "living your best life", and I love how his whole philosophy seems to be building other people up. One hell of a guitarist too! You asked him some great questions, love your interview style 🎸
Met Carlos this year at Bowie con. I have seen him onstage many times with Bowie, face to face he just a wonderful guy, he talks to you like he’s your best friend, love him to bits.👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️
Great Interview. I was blessed to see Carlos with Bowie on the 83 tour with Earl Slick and in 88 with Peter Frampton... Such an amazing talent. On the 83 tour I had 5th row center stage and snuck my camera in... I have some amazing photographs of him... Thanks for this...He's a great Interview.

@@EveryoneLovesGuitarI also did not expect Carlos to be talking about that Gizmo Hitler had that could make people sick from the sound waves . Give me the impression he's probably in the other interesting things and I could picture him watching that show that used to come on years ago with Action Bronson and his friends getting all smoked up and eating food while watching Ancient Aliens haha . 😂
What an amazing guy. This interview was a revelation to me and I think it'll remain important to me for some time to come. Except for a bit of guitar playing for fun, I'm not a musician, I'm a writer, but Alomar's attitudes and insights transfer to what I do and have given me loads to think about and play with.
Carlos is such a great interview! And you are a great interviewer as well - thank you! Carlos and Jimmy Page are the reason I picked up a guitar as a kid. I remember seeing Bowie on TV, and my eyes went straight to the cat with the glass JAMMING on that rythym guitar. I thought he was the coolest.
That was the golden age, two generations ahead of me. But it felt similar growing up in detroit learning from the elders that were already doing it. Great interview
In the 80s he produced a record called "Doble Vida" from the Argentine band Soda Stereo, and it was a revolution conceptually speaking in the pop musical panorama in the country (and maybe in every Latin American country indeed). The man is a genius.
@@EveryoneLovesGuitar There was a really funny anecdote from Soda Stereo´s bassist. When they were in the USA for the recording, Carlos Alomar composed and produced the song that Mick Jagger made famous "She is the Boss" (I don´t know if he produced the LP too) - apparently Carlos´wife was a robust woman hence the song´s name -. Well, the bassist asked Mr. Alomar why did not sing himself the song for a solo album, and he replied "When I sing it, I cannot sell it for more than 1.000 dollars, and when I sell it to Mick, I become millions!"
Carlos Alomar does not explicitly mention breaking his collaboration with David Bowie. He emphasizes the enduring nature of their friendship and working relationship. Alomar mentions that despite personal challenges, such as concerns for his wife's safety and health, he never left Bowie, and there was never any formal termination of their collaboration
Thanks for stepping out front Carlos I always look for your music in the stores even on vinyl when I was a kid. You're solo work was always very intriguing to me insomniac keep up the Mystique you are as brightest star has the universe offers.
As a musician I agree with everything he say...I remember this highschool art teacher who told me while painting "Don't over patchke" Some kind of slang. BUt later when I was improvising with my first band I heard her voice in my head...Thelling me not to fill every hole...Now as a producer I hear her voice in my head regularly...JUst softly reminding me that the holes are also a part of the music and often less is more! So I was so happy to hear him say this
Carlos played the station to station 'isolar' tour with lead guitarist Stacey Heydon, Canadian. Talk about overlooked musicians. In the book 'Starman' by Paul Trynka. Trynka calls his book the DEFINITIVE biography. But forgot to mention Heydon at all. 400 pages. Hedyon is not even mentioned in the appendix. Hope Carlos can help you find Heydon!!
Fantastic interview of a very talented musician ! Love Carlos’ work with Bowie and others. One correction, he did not play on Man Who Sold The World/Watch That Man by Lulu which was recorded before they met. Mick Ronson & most of Spiders played on it. He must of been thinking of ‘Can You Hear Me’ which he played guitar on for Lulu. Best thing about him is his long lasting marriage to Robin !
I think if this interview was twice as long I would have still listened to the whole thing! What a legend, I wish I knew Carlos personally. Thanks for sharing this...Jim

I remember seeing him playing along with Frampton during the Glass Spider tour. Duran Duran opened up. It was the show to see in 1987 in my town. Outdoors. Sunny. Perfect.

@@EveryoneLovesGuitar thank you ...will subscribe
@@EveryoneLovesGuitarI also did not expect Carlos to be talking about that Gizmo Hitler had that could make people sick from the sound waves .
Give me the impression he's probably in the other interesting things and I could picture him watching that show that used to come on years ago with Action Bronson and his friends getting all smoked up and eating food while watching Ancient Aliens haha .
😂
Che manny
What an amazing guy. This interview was a revelation to me and I think it'll remain important to me for some time to come. Except for a bit of guitar playing for fun, I'm not a musician, I'm a writer, but Alomar's attitudes and insights transfer to what I do and have given me loads to think about and play with.
Glad you enjoyed the interview @JohnMoseley, and thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
Great interview. Carlos alomar is an amazing musician and also such a gentleman!
Thank you for listening Mario Salimon! 🎉🔥😇
Thanks for your kind words @julio_scissors and glad you enjoyed this 👍🏻🎸♫
That was the golden age, two generations ahead of me. But it felt similar growing up in detroit learning from the elders that were already doing it. Great interview
Thanks for your kind words @DaveManleyguitar and glad you enjoyed this 👍🏻🎸♫
In the 80s he produced a record called "Doble Vida" from the Argentine band Soda Stereo, and it was a revolution conceptually speaking in the pop musical panorama in the country (and maybe in every Latin American country indeed). The man is a genius.
Cool @sidalientv4995 Glad you liked this and thanks for listening! 👂 🎶 🎸
Thank you so much. Lemme search for this.
Her wife was ( I don't know if she still is) Robin Clark, and she was the female singer in Simple Minds.
The legend. I love his sound. Great interview.
Glad you enjoyed the interview @Auntkekebaby, and thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
The best interview about artists & making music I'll ever see I'm guessing.
What a great interview! Thanks to both of you. What a beautiful guy.
Thanks for your kind words @ecovolved and glad you enjoyed this 👍🏻🎸♫
Carlos Alomar does not explicitly mention breaking his collaboration with David Bowie. He emphasizes the enduring nature of their friendship and working relationship. Alomar mentions that despite personal challenges, such as concerns for his wife's safety and health, he never left Bowie, and there was never any formal termination of their collaboration
clickbait
Carlos is incredible and such a fantastic guitarist and musical director. One of a Kind. A great man too. Cheers from France ❤

Thanks for stepping out front Carlos I always look for your music in the stores even on vinyl when I was a kid. You're solo work was always very intriguing to me insomniac keep up the Mystique you are as brightest star has the universe offers.
Glad you enjoyed the interview @jayjack2046, and thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
What an interesting man, profound wisdom.
Thanks @hwi62, Rock on! 🎸🙌🏻🔥🎶
So I was so happy to hear him say this
Glad you enjoyed the interview @lynnsintention5722, and thanks for listening 💥 🎶 🎸 !
Carlos is a fabulous talent! An incredible musician/guitarist and an even better human being.
Thank you for listening @yvesaltana5732! 🎉🔥😇
Maybe repost this comment to where he has replied to other people so that he is sure to see your comment again this time and maybe he'll respond ?
Fantastic interview of a very talented musician ! Love Carlos’ work with Bowie and others. One correction, he did not play on Man Who Sold The World/Watch That Man by Lulu which was recorded before they met. Mick Ronson & most of Spiders played on it. He must of been thinking of ‘Can You Hear Me’ which he played guitar on for Lulu. Best thing about him is his long lasting marriage to Robin !
Thank you for listening @SIR46661! 🎉🔥😇
I think if this interview was twice as long I would have still listened to the whole thing! What a legend, I wish I knew Carlos personally. Thanks for sharing this...Jim
Thanks @1jimif, Rock on! 🎸🙌🏻🔥🎶
