Solar eclipses, formed when the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun, are much rarer than their lunar counterpart, with only 2 to 5 eclipses every year. They are some of the coolest astronomical events we see and a significant one will be trekking across the continental United States on August 21, 2017.
